Who Was Newcastle’s Man Of The Match At Huddersfield?

It was another massive win for Newcastle this afternoon at the impressive John Smith’s Stadium and it seems Rafa Benitez has the lads surging at just the right time after the poor result at home against Bristol City last Saturday and we have since beaten both Brighton and Huddersfield – two very good sides.

So it’s a time to celebrate but Rafa has said only tonight for the players – because tomorrow he will be preparing them for another tough game at 5th placed Reading on Tuesday night.

Rafa is nothing if not single-minded and focused – love it!

Matt Ritchie and Daryl Murphy
Both scored today

If it wasn’t for the 4-1 against Reading, the 6-0 against QPR, the 3-0 against Ipswich and the two four nils against Birmingham and Rotherham our goals for wouldn’t be that good really!

It’s been a very good day. Newcastle and Swans getting wins and we end the night with i hope a very good fight between a Haye and Bellow.

So then Gents who’s going to win that fight.

11 points away from Huddersfield…are Leeds back to hunting us down now? Or is it Derby? Reading? Its hard to keep up with who are going to overtake us

Wonder what the form table looks like now…

I backed Rafa’s team selection. Good to see Murphy in. Don’t know why anyone criticised his first touch for the goal. Great finish. Only Colback was the worry for me and so it proved. A second yellow card waiting to happen with his daft tackling. Rafa got it right to get him off.

An even better night would be seeing you stood in between the two of them while they tried to get at each other in the first round.

I wonder if Carr and Ashley believe Murphy being over 26, was a bad signing? His goal today was worth more than a freekin sell-on return.

They should let Rafa get on with the football side of things – without interference!

It really is ours to lose now, there’s eleven games left, not the twelve I thought earlier, are we really going to lose a third of those while Huddersfield go unbeaten with a hectic schedule on the way. Murphy brimming with confidence, a fit Gayle back wanting to see off that pretender Woods and a team full of determined pro’s w

Ive never thought there was an option that we wouldnt be going up automatically mate now I think its near enough impossible

As u say we would have to lose a 3rd of our games and Huddersfield and Brighton would have to keep up stupidly good form…its just not going to happen realistically

Gayles celebration says it all about how I feel about our promotion hopes now haha

Jail, I watch the boxing and you stick to tiddlywinks because it’s less violent.

Jail, the funny thing is it the GD would still be second best, assuming that all those games were draws.

Good to see Anita back today. He was understandably a bit rusty and lacking in match practice, but can only get better.
Keep fighting Ed. You can beat this. We’re all rooting for you.

RAFA won everything today, including the bingo! Doubt there will be any winners.
I thought he would start with Murphy, and the big lad would appreciate two fast wingers, like Yelin and Atsu.
Replacing Yelin with a fit again Anita seemed obvious. Diame finished the Brighton game along side Shelvey, and
    looked a natural partner.
That leaves the last place, the number 10 spot, for Ritchie, he is not fast enough to play on the wing, but he has a good football brain. Ritchie will never be a Beardsley, but who can.
I think the way the modern game is going, that a back line of 3 players, left back, centre back, and left back, will become the norm.
The wing backs will change into right and left wing halves, in-between two central half backs, one of which is an attacking player the other defensive.
That leaves three places for the attack, numbers 8, 9 and 10. In other words a centre forward, 9, supported by two inside forwards, 8 and 10.
This would be a 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 format, the six players that make up the mid-field would have to be very adaptable, moving from 3-6-1 to 3-2-4-1 to 3-2-2-3.
This is of course not a new line-up, it’s the team structure thar won 3 FA cup finals in the early 1950’s. Just a thought…

Anita should not be in our team. Yedlin offers so much more and his speed is great defending against pacey wingers. Anita is slower than my 92 year old mother in law. We won today but not the best game to watch. Come on Rafa when are we going to get an attacking performance.
