Newcastle Front-Rummers To Sign Top Premier League Defender

We’ve watched a few of the Hull City games this season and the player who has impressed us the most is their center-back Harry Maguire, who is not only a good defender but good from corners and good moving forward from defense with the ball.

So it was good to see the Sun report today that not only are Newcastle interested in signing Harry in the summer but we are the front-runners for him.

Harry Maguire – Hull City center-back

Harry was born in Sheffield and started his career at Sheffield United and came through their Youth system  before joining Hull City in 2014 for £2.5M.

The 6ft 2ins defender played 166 times with 12 goals in both the Championship and League One for the Blades.

Since he’s been at Hull City he’s played 65 times with one goal and this season he has made 24 appearances for the Tigers and is a regular starter for the side.

Newcastle will be bringing in at least one new central defender this summer and maybe Harry is the one – if so he is certainly Premier League ready.

He’s looked a good player and maybe Rafa can make him into a top center-back if he does arrive at Newcastle this summer?

The Sun is reporting that Maguire is keen to leave the Tigers in the summer, after he has been looking for new and improved terms.

The Sun says he is very keen to join Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez.

They report the deal will be pushed through for about £12M once Newcastle are certain of promotion from the Championship.

Harry also has good leadership skills, which is another positive  that has attracted Rafa to the Yorkshireman.

He is 24 years old today, yet he has already played 246 games with 14 goals, so he’s played a lot of football already in his short career.

And again it seems Rafa is moving for English players who know English football game well.

Maguire has played once for the England U21 side and some big clubs are said to be after him, but Rafa is leading the chase.

We think this lad would be an excellent signing for us.

What do you think?

Chris Moore, from a few threads back.

What a bonny bairn but that romper suit? He could be psychologically scarred if he’s made to wear it much longer!

Just as well MacGuire’s only 24. Much older and Ashley wouldn’t touch him – even if he could walk on water!

Very professional victory and can’t believe the two wins. I’d been praying for 2 draws out of these 3 games, as long as one was against Huddersfield! Rafa so sensible – players saying things like “we’ve not done anything yet” – clearly rubbing off on them from him. To be fair though, he said before this week that he thought April was the real tester. We need 5 more wins.

12 million! Really!!?? I’m not sayin he’s bad, but we should aim higher in terms of allround ability. I was very impressed by young Phillip Billing yesterday. Now that would be an investment into a modern footballer. Great vision, passing, killer foot, and also the right physique. I bet you he could ba an amazing cb, but he could as well be the missing piece in our midfield.

We have eleven games left this season, less than a quarter of our fixtures to play, unfortunately only five of them are away games!
If we continue with our success ratio for the rest of the season we will easily top the 100 points mark.
    Keep on keeping on!…

Well chuffed about our win today – hopefully we go on an unbeaten run for the next 5/6 games which should seal it. My viewpoint on yesterday’s game:

We played until we scored the 2nd goal. After that we defended well yes – but we didn’t play well i.e. our all round game was not good. We got slightly relaxed – 2nd to every ball in the midfield area – and sat deeper and deeper inviting pressure.

It would have been a long 4 mins of stoppage time if the keeper had not made that mistake on the 90 and I honestly thought they could score again.

Credit to the lads because all wins can’t look pretty – but we need to be careful not to invite so much pressure and take our foot off the gas when it comes to pressing and challenging for 2nd balls during the matches. We can do that when we’re mathematically promoted.

Players’ performance wise – the whole back 5 were top quality yesterday. Colback and Shelvey were good too however, they both unnecessarily give cheap fouls away in not-so clever areas – Colback did it last season too and in the Prem we will be punished for that. I don’t think Colback should be our starting centre mid in Prem.

Atsu, Ritchie and Murphy were very good however, why oh why is Diame starting. He is big and strong but his all round gameplay is really bad – bad touches – bad passing – takes too much time on the ball then gets dispossessed and slow in movement. I would play Gayle and Murphy up top (one being in Diame’s position) or even Ritchie as No. 10 with Yedlin right wing.

PS – Haye – Bellew was a great fight but I’m guted for Haye. If not for his leg going I don’t think Bellew could knock him out – even when he was a sitting duck on one leg he could take so many of bellew’s punches to his face.Exciting fight to watch nevertheless and a re-match would be great to see.

He’s very good on the ball for such a ‘lump’ and dominant in the air. Reads the game well which makes up for his slowness across the ground.

Would be all for it. Young and still plenty of improvement to be coached into his game by Rafa.

Think it’ll be buh-bye to the overrated Mbemba in the summer.

I aggree regarding Diame….slightly better yesterday but having watched his last 3 ganes I find it amazing he still starts. No way he can cut it in pl playing like this..kind of feel sorry for him if we sell him in summer but he is a very poor man sissoko in what he does and that’s saying a lot

    I am happy today !

The last two games have been brilliant and I think that will make our last few games a bit of fun.

Leeds are on a run but I can see Brighton wobbling a bit now, bit like last season.

Huddersfield were out witted and in my opinion we have one man to thank – Rafa

I just hope he is backed in the summer

Toon, Huddersfield and Leeds to go up….

You clearly haven’t watched him play. As good if not better than Clark on the ball, particularly in bringing it out of defence, with the raw strength and aerial ability of Lascelles.

£12m is a snip in the current day, especially with the English player premium taken into account.

But his great finish has softened the blow!!! 🙁
Put 10 v QPR, missed Murph off, trying to be clever with bench etc. 10/10, shame 11-a-side!!
Put Murph in v Brighton, so got 10/11.
Put Gayle v ‘Udders, not Murph 10/11

I was at the game yesterday in the home section close to the area of the field diame played into in the 2 nd half
Diame ran his socks off ,he was brilliant yesterday often not appreciated and his work not seen on tv
He may not be the most talented and there are questions about premier league but to compare him to the laziest play ever to pull a black and white shirt on does not wash
The Huddersfield fans around me had him as mom

Riviere will not be coming back; he is out of contract in the summer. The only reason Krul was given a contract extension was the belief that he could still be worth something if/when he got himself fit. After Elliot was given a lengthy extension – it’s curtains for Krul now.

Hail Wor Ashley – I’m with you on Maguire, he’s a cracking centre back who has the potential to step up and improve even more under Rafa. I’d be surprised if we got him as cheaply as 12M (as crazy as that sounds at that price), not only because he’s English but because I can see the likes of Spurs, Everton or even Liverpool (playing Lucas at centre back?!) coming in for him at a higher price.

It wasn’t just the press whinging yesterday:
Huddersfield could be in trouble from FA:
Assistant ref was showered in clappers plus a heavy object after Murphy’s goal.
    PICH ANNOUNCER…
Ref East was criticised by the pitch announcer at half time and also asked ex player Harry Bunn what he thought of the TOON penalty – Bunn caused Ritchie of diving.

Fair point. He was decent yesterday and maybe he will get better and better with games but he falls over an awful lot and gets dispossessed with the ball a lot. Tries to break with long runs but often fails. This was the part of his game similar to sissoko. Not questioning his work rate, he did a lot of closing down but I don’t think he’s primarily in the team for that. Won’t be getting 30m for him either

Haye only really cares about selling the fight, and he is pretty good at it to be fair, but the heart he showed after suffering an ankle injury can’t be in doubt can it?

The bloke got injured, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t prepared for more than 2 rounds, in fact he went to the 11th and hobbled his way there. Respect from me that he didn’t just quit when his ankle went.

The stadium announcer had the bunnchap on the field at half time directly in front of the main stand
He was talking about the city vane and the Huddersfield goal
Then decided to move onto the match
Saying how Newcastle had got two dubious goals from bad ref decisions
Then asked bun what he thought ,no hesitation said Ritchie dived
As all this is happening the Huddersfield fans getting more and more wound up
He finished his interview by saying let’s give em hell
I took that to be directly aimed at the ref

    Hope that helps
The sensible people around me could not believe his behaviour
