Benitez Laments Too Many Mistakes In Damaging Defeat

We just hope that Newcastle are not going to serve up another display like this one at St. James Park this season, because if that happens the unthinkable could happen and we’ll not get promoted back to the Premier League.

It’s not even worth thinking about and Rafa has to get the lads back to playing error-free football.

If anxiety starts to creep into our players’ game then it will not end up well – and then everything good that has happened this season under Rafa Benitez could go up in smoke.

Rafa Benitez – not happy with mistakes

That mustn’t happen.

This is what the manager said after the horror show and this on his one year anniversary as the Newcastle manager:

“We knew it could be a difficult game, and we knew we had to do well at the beginning and not make mistakes,”

“But we started making mistakes, and we paid for that. Fulham are a good team – they passed the ball well and they have pace.”

“We were giving the ball away, and that was giving them the chance to play in the way that they like to play.”

“When you have tried and have made mistakes, you have to analyse why. It is not as though the players were not trying in terms of effort.”

“Sometimes, it is just the wrong decision, and that is something we have to improve.”

“In terms of effort, you could see we were running and working very hard.”

“Clark picked up a knock with his knee, so we will have to see how he is.”

Let’s hope we are not going to have yet another disaster at Newcastle.

Our players have to stand up to the plate and be counted – courage and bravery are needed in times of strife.

Euphoria after last Saturday’s huge win at Huddersfield has turned into dismay in a short eight days – as we have somehow managed to drop 5 points on Brighton and Huddersfield in the last two games

There is far to many things with the team at home at the minute:

    as you say:
‘We can’t put 3 or 4 passes together.
We can’t press as a team to regain possession.
Our midfield two are slow and don’t seem to get close to the opposition.’

    I’ll add
    Always play sideways backwards.
    Don’t build from back.
    Goalkeepers distribution poor
Rely to much on Shelvey and Gayle
    Cannot tackle
give the ball away to easily
need to many touches on the ball.
No movement once a player passes the ball stands still.
One up front puts us at home on the back foot

Two up front for me would at least give the opposition defence something to think about.

One up front to easy to mark smother out of a game at home

Yesterday we were like trees – Fulham the dogs who went around pissing on the states the running off.

We hadn’t a clue how to counteract Fulham’s movement and one-touch football – a joy to watch

We’re suppose to be the best team/most expensive team – we should be playing like that!!!!!!

“Chris Hughton watched here as his side proved to be neither crowd-pleasingly stylish or grimly efficient, with set-pieces back to being lack-lustre and too many hopeful forward punts to nobody in particular. Our poor approach play and inefficient passing all vaguely depressing and predictable .”

These were Biffa’s comments on 10th Feb 2010 after we got beaten heavily 3 – 0 away to Derby County.

    Guess what ?

We never lost another game and went up with a record number of points !

    Should of read
Yesterday we were like trees – Fulham the dogs who went around pissing on the trees then running off.

It was not just errors – Fulham made quite a lot at the back first half passing between themselves – but got away with it as we allowed them to much space to recover

The defeat to Fulham and the way in which virtually all the Newcastle players performed may, in a perverse way, be seen as a blessing in disguise.

Because we have beaten are nearest rivals does not mean it’s all over and its going to be a cakewalk to automatic promotion.

From now on all subsequent games will have to be fought over tooth and nail. There should be no relaxation or taking opposing teams for granted just because they are mid table or at the bottom of the league.

I don’t think we had the legs in the team to get close to Fulham and put them under pressure.
That’s when you would find out how good they are, but we could not pose the question.
It got better when Gouf and Murphy were on.
We seem to want to ease through games on quality. Even from 30% possession Shelvey or Gayle will come up with something. That seems to be the approach.

Me I would Start Goufran every game

and yesterday might of been the ideal game to play Mbemba the forgotten man

also when we went three down why not put Murphy and Mitrovich up front alongside Gayle and give it a go – Nowt to loose

Went down with a whimper yesterday
give it some blood and thunder!!!!!!

I thought I was the only frustrated Gallowgate ender left by the end of the game!
Have we been infiltrated by mackem deserters?
    Embarrassing support from too many!
Well done, the East Strawberry Corner! Kept the noise going!
Fulham fans ‘olaying’ after 25 minutes and taking the urine throughout the match. Appeared to be goading our fans up next to them.

I cannot understand a manager who will not change his formation when it is obviously not working.

We are missing Hayden, a big upgrade on Jack Crabback!

Toontaff, its easy for fans to goad you when the manager has already admitted before the game that we will have less possession. It was an odd way to approach the game and sent out a very strange message in my opinion. Rafa needs to get more ambitious at home but wont even try two forwards. This is what annoys me and it goes way back to sunderland at home when we didnt lay a glove on them. I respect the good stuff he has done, but this annoys me loads.

Jack was trying to avoid his 10th yellow- a lot of fans were imploring the ref to book him!
Ritchie, Shelvey were very poor – an off day.
    Gayle still not sharp.
    Anita was awful!!! Lascalles, too.
Dummett struggled second-half, giving away the second goal, but maybe that was down to Clark being injured?

Jesus did ok, when he came on and must start ahead of Big Vurn!
    We miss Yedlin.
Atsu looked poor today – weak.
Think Atsu and Anita may have booked their ticket for the bus oot!

I’m not sure Rafa has that many options. Hayden out leaves Shelvey and Colback for the 2 midfield positions.
Anita, not for me. Mbemba, totally untried and tested.

Posada, charlie, you will be called makems or mentalists on here if you criticise rafa. No balance as always . Another defeat at home and i reckon we could have issues if the other two keep winning. The big question is whether we are running out of legs. If so, the seasn hasnt seemed to effect fulham, huddersfield etc. I thought our squad with two players in every position and rafas rotation was supposed to kick in now??

Because Brighton and Huddlersfield are scrapping fighting for 90 minutes plus to win games unlike our Prima Donnas yesterday

The Fulham goalie looked dodgy, nearly carried the ball into his goal, early on.
Their defence had errors in it, passing around at the back.
The first 10 minutes we pressed and they looked iffy.
Don’t think RAFA told them to stop pressing, so players at fault.
When Gouff and Murph came on and pressed we scored and had chances to score .

Aye Munster Rafa’s big squad seems to be falling away.
Yesterdays line up has been his preferred choice since October or thereabouts.
We played some good stuff earlier in season. Brighton home and QPR away. Not sure we are capable of that now.

First the good news we are still top
    Now the bad
I have run the numbers today and I have us missing automatic
    I see us 5 wins ,2 draws and 2 defeats 17 points giving a total of 94
I have Brighton 18 giving a total of 97 and Huddersfield 26 giving a total of 97 points
Had we won yesterday I would have been calling promotion !
Interestingly if we miss out on 94 points it will be the highest points total to finish 3 rd in the championship
Don’t book your holidays we have at least two unwanted extra games coming up

I have made criticism of RAFA and quite a few of our players, at times, this season.
But, too many seem to forget where we were at a year ago!
Or even the long losing streaks under Pardew/Carver/McClaren for 3 or 4 years.
We were poor yesterday and RAFA should have changed formation at half-time.
The first goal was a great goal.
The second was from a Dummett error.
The 3rd was a fast counter.
Lascalles and Anita were at fault 3rd.
Clark was injured for the 2nd and 3rd, hence the space was there for Fulham.
Some players looked knackered, off the pace, afraid of the ball.
Mind, every error by a player seems to cause massive moans from the fans, which only adds to the problem.

I am sick of hearing how good ‘Uddersfield are.
They are lucky, usually winning by a single goal.
    This will not last.
We worked out how to beat them, as will other teams.

There are, unfortunately, fans like this at SJP.
