Serious Injury Derails Move For 22 Year-Old Transfer Target

The Sunday People have reported that Newcastle are all tracking the 22-year-old central midfielder Wylan Cyprien who came through the Lens Youth Academy and last summer moved to Nice.

We reported yesterday about another French player Newcastle are reported after – 18 year-old Saint-Etienne defender Mickael Nade.

But Nade would become part of Peter Beardsley’s development squad whereas we expect Cyprien would immediately be challenging for a first team place at Newcastle.

22 year-old Nice central midfielder Wylan Cyprien

Both French players would seem to be scouted by Graham Carr and it remains to be seen if Newcastle bring either player in during the summer.

Other big clubs like Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the talented Cyprien who has played for all the French Youth sides through U21 level.

The player has attracted attention this season with some very good displays for Nice and he has scored 9 goals and 3 assists in 34 total appearances so far.

Now for the bad news – there has to be a big question mark over Cyprien since he picked up a serious anterior cruciate knee-ligament (ACL) injury last Friday in the 57th minute of Nice’s 2-2 draw with Caen.

Nice are now 3rd in the French League table behind PSG and Monaco who are on top.

Depending on the severity of the injury it could keep him out of the game up to a year as it has done with another one of our potential targets – central midfielder Alan Judge of Brentford, who made the Championship Team of the Season last year.

Alan has still not played against for Brentford this season, after picking up his ACL injury last April at Ipswich.

Cyprien may continue to be a target for Newcastle, but certainly not this summer.

What do you think?

Not paying any attention to transfer targets until we know what division we’re in and who the manager is.

You of all people getting the jitters now?

Rafa needs everyone on board, in the same direction. I have a feeling we’ll need to will those 14 points, to drag them out of our players and the opposition.

Like someone said, we don’t do easy. But:

    Keep the faith.

    beermonkey,
I hope not, I didn’t jump on the band waggon of the sky falling in during January when all those rumours started but I don’t think it looked too good either. Not sure what the contract deal is, I thought it was all set in stone that money would be there in January etc, tye goalposts do seem to have moved though.

A lot of our players looked a little jaded against Fulham normally the season would be over for a lot of our players but we still have more games to go!

Not sure of the stats but Shelvey, Dummett, Lascalles, Gayle, Diame, Anita and Perez have played a lot of games possibly more than at any other time in their careers.

Saying that lets beat Birmingham at the weekend and then we only need another 4 wins to rubber stamp it!! COME ON!!

I honestly don’t know where Munster pucked the fact that Huddersfield were murdering teams, they have won two of the last twenty league games by more than a one goal margain, scoring one in most of them. Don’t let the truth get in the way of a Rafa bashing session.

Indeed, most PL have their flip flops on before 36 matches. It makes me wonder why we have not seen more of the squad rotation we were forewarned about.

The use of a solid back four has been at the expense of Lazaar and to a lesser degree Yedlin. Perhaps because of being lightweight in midfield and not being able to keep possession for long periods in the oppositions half. When we were without Shelvey the team undoubtedly struggled and are very reliant on his creative abilities, there seems to be a lack of influence from any other individual when it comes to being a playmaker, or making something happen.

I hope in these ‘extra’ 9 matches another NUFC player can come good, secure promotion and provide some sense of hope for next season. I had thought this would be Mitro but it is looking more likely that Murphy will be.

I wonder if it’s anything to do with that game against Blackburn in which he made too many changes and they let him down.

    @Lindisfarne

In previous seasons the Toon usually has the flip flops on in January!!!

    @Jail

I wonder if this does prey on his mind although we got beat off Blackburn again playing near enough our full strength team and he was reluctant to bring on subs until it was too late!

Its clear he doesn’t trust Mbemba and Mitrovic which is fair enough but I would have expected to have seen Lazaar get some game time on the left wing with Dummett providing a solid full back behind him

rafa wasnt happy in jan but i still think he will stay
but if those goal posts move to far he will walk

but does any1 know what happened i know rafa seemed to be expecting some1
but there are lots of reasons for deals to fall through not just the fat man hiding the keys to the safe
could just have been miss communication between penfold and rafa

i am sure in the future all will be revealed

never been a fan of lots of changes 1 2 at a time it always seems to go wrong

    Scouted by Graham Carr.
    Please do me a favour.
This lad has played over 100 games in French football.
He has played for France at every level from U16 to U21.
Every team in the top 2 divisions will know about him and will have an assessment of him.
A scout is a scout is a scout. They should never have great influence at a club.
You could ask any ex pro to scout a player and they would be able to.
The 30% that are complete thickos just would not be able to explain things objectively.

Re:Blackburn, I think the mistake there was too many changes in one match. A more balanced approach would be to change one or two players on a six week cycle and stagger the positions. For the reason of energy levels, I would hope Murphy will play the majority of the remaining matches and Gouffran just used as a sub. Shelvey, Ritcie, Lascelles/Clarke and Dummett could be given an extra week off around the Internationals by alternating between Brum(before) & Wigan(after).

    Lindisfarne,
Totally agree, not just the different players getting used to game time but it also gave tge impetus to Blackburn, they must have thought who do these lot think they are and gave them an extra edge, we were desperate for a go in the cups and if that team could have won we might have not lost that invicibility we seemed to be building up.

On the subject of Frech players.
    We have had some disasters.
How they could be that bad I don’t know. They contributed nothing.
I personally think they were deliberately crap so they could go straight back home again.
Give the wrong player a big contract and their motivation is gone.

There are good players and bad. Our best ever player(s) was French, remember.

I disagree with Carr’s approach in that he’s almost limited to one international market, albeit a good one, limiting his and our choices.

But, in general, the French pool is more talented than the British.

Whilst I appreciate we were, shall we say, top heavy with French players, Carr hasn’t exclusively scouted that way.

Darlow and Lascelles were scouted in the UK, were they not by Carr?

Truth is, France was a place where we could better talent at a cheaper price, at that time. We got some duffs and got some gems.

A lot could be said about the coaching and footballing philosophy those players were subjected to once here.

    Carr, or whomever,
Must spread their net. Recruiting is where it’s at. Right now, there’s a talent somewhere who could change his and our fortunes.

Carr is too old to be digging. Does anyone know how big and wide is his team? I dare say it’s more important than god (Rafa) himself… Sorry jail 🙂

Cyprus…Not a clue how big or wide the net is.

Disagree that recruitment is more important than the coaching. They can be great, but if the coaching isn’t up to standard, they wont progress as they need to or should. Equally as important, perhaps.
