There’s some interesting news being reported in the Chronicle this afternoon with the transfer business said to be well on its way and we expect Newcastle’s main transfer targets will have already been identified.
But everything will be in limbo on that front until we know for certain which division we will be playing in next season.
It’s not as certain as it was after we had beaten both Brighton and Huddersfield in successive games.
But then we surprisingly lost five points in the next two games and both the Terriers and the Seagulls made up that number of points on us – all in a short five days.
🙁
Rafa Benitez – Newcastle United manager
It will be a very exciting place to be at Newcastle this summer, if only we can make it back to the Premier League with Rafa Benitez and a rejuvenated Newcastle United likely to be an attractive club for many good players.
That’s the hope in any case.
🙂
And Rafa will know who the good players are in the Championship and we wouldn’t be too surprised to see a few of them as part of our summer transfer targets – Tom Cairney being a good example of one of them..
There is also news there are a number of companies interested in being the shirt sponsors for the club next season with one being from the far east.
In fact there seems to be a lot of interest in Newcastle from the far east and the Chronicle are reporting today that a Newcastle delegation may visit East Asia to discuss some commercial ventures with the club.
The commercial revenue has long been low at Newcastle compared with the really big clubs in England and it’s an area where the club could make substantial extra revenue – with Rafa Benitez in charge and the club back in the Premier League.
That extra revenue (yes – it’s all about money these days) will help us compete with the biggest clubs, as Rafa continues his efforts to build Newcastle into a top European side again.
But it’s still got to be first things first.
We need to get that promotion nailed down and the sooner we can do that the sooner we can start going after some top new players for next season.
A win at Birmingham City on Saturday will be a good start to the rest of the season.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #1How much would you pay to be a fly on the wall at that face to face meeting? I’d skip the family holiday for a weekend in Skegness.

Aye, midweek news is slow and nothing to report. I remember last October all our January targets being lined up. That went well.

Comment #8When I read the thread headline re. ‘The Classy Player’ wanting to concentrate on his Toon career I almost spat my coffee out when I realised Ed was talking about Diame.
Sorry but at the present moment he’s anything but classy, more of a liability.

I don’t know how you can be so diabolically poor one game and look like a top player the next, it’s not down to ability if you can look that good, is attitude, concentration???

Comment #17Jail@9 – That’s exactly how was at West Ham. Maybe he was more consistent elsewhere but basically he’s always going to be that hot-and-cold type. That’s why I thought (and said) he was a poor signing for us at the time.

Comment #18I was impressed with Cairney when we played Fulham. He looked generally assured of himself, aware of who was round him and looked like he could pass quite nicely. Good weight of passing, and that’s usually a sign of class. A couple of cracks at goal and he puts one in. Not bad at all.

Comment #19He’s a bit of an eye-sore to watch a lot of the time is Diame. Lumbering around like Shola, and a very heavy touch at times. He’s got strength about him, though, and has good shot power when he uses it.
To be fair, he can chase a good few balls down, whereas other times he looks lethargic. Very frustrating as he should definitely be doing a lot more, especially in this division.
I’d prefer seeing him next to Shelvey in CM than in the number 10 position, mind.

Comment #20On Gayle, the little fella is lethal, I just watched all his goals and i can’t see him stopping scoring if given the chances, even half chances. Cheers Pardew, can’t help but think he thought he was stinging us getting Townsend and giving us Gayle for 3 million. Muhahaha

I’d love to know how a 35-50 year old Swansea fan with a 14 year olds brain gives a balanced view on things Newcastle. Taking in to account when he first came on here it was to slate Pardew, realising that the smary tw@t wasn’t very popular he started his gushing praise of him, often referring to him as a hero. Now we have the best manager we’ve had in a long time he’s started to slate him and the team. Please blog, go figure.
Jail change the record, ffs, you sound like a nagging wife.

I understand where you are coming from.
You are a fan from the KK era where the philosophy was – screw the defence we will attack like hell and score more goals than the opposition.
While creating excitement it rarely wins stuff.
The stats do not bear out your criticism of Rafa.
KK’s winning percentage with us us was 55%
Rafas is currently 70%

I’ve got nothing against Rafa because he is a good coach but i don’t think anything will change unless Ashley gives him 30million for this player and 20million for that player but that’s not going to happen, if he’s that good mind you why did he leave top teams like Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City, he’s won trophies with teams that had world class players.

Comment #27Can’t really compare those stats between Keegan and Benitez, I want to see what Rafa does in his first full season in the premiership, that’s if we go up and he stays.

Comment #35Man City were shite. God knows how much money and wages has been spent on that team.
Any other manager who plays a left back at centre half when you have a 30 million odd quid centre half sitting on the bench would be getting seriously questioned though. Especially when the winning goal was Kolarovs fault.
