This is not good news – DeAndre Yedlin is now expected to be out for five weeks for Newcastle after having an assessment of his thigh injury in Los Angeles by the US team doctors.
Initially it was thought he would be out for up to two weeks but that’s not the case and he will now be missed by Newcastle for the important run-in to the season.

Injury worse than first feared
The muscle tear Yedlin picked up without knowing it is a lot worse than first feared.
He has linked up with the US team on the west coast and this is what new US head coach Bruce Arena has said about the Newcastle full-back’s injury:
“DeAndre has been in LA this past week and examined by our team doctors.”
“We realise he is not going to be able to go to these next two matches against Honduras and Panama.”
“It is likely he will be out for about five weeks.”
“I would expect he will be back on the field for Newcastle right at the end of this season in April.”
If you add five weeks on from today it takes us to the 20th April and he would be available for the final three games of the season.
Counting the games he missed against Reading and Fulham he will miss eight league games in total – so that’s not good.
Maybe he can come back before the game at home to Preston on 22nd April?
We are fairly well off at right back with Vurnon Anita and Jesus Gamez now fighting it out for the start.
Vurnon has shown he can do a very decent job at right back once he gets back playing regularly again and it’s a chance for Jesus Gamez to contribute to the team this season by putting in some good performances for the side.
