Huddersfield Lose 4-0 – Big Chance For Newcastle

Huddersfield dramatically lost 4-0 at Bristol City tonight with City starting the game 3rd bottom and the Terriers starting 3rd top of the Championship and the home side were 2-0 up at half time.

This was nothing short of a stunning win for Bristol City and another shock result in the division.

The Robins move out of the bottom three with 41 points from their 38 games.

David Wagner – Huddersfield manager

So Huddersfield stay on 71 points, 6 points behind Newcastle and the Magpies play at Birmingham tomorrow afternoon.

In the other game tonight Reading had a good 2-0 away win at Sheffield Wednesday and move onto 67 points from 38 games – 10 points behind Newcastle and we have a game in hand.

It’s a big chance now for Newcastle to pick up 3 points on Huddersfield tomorrow with a win at the Blues and go 9 points ahead of the Terriers before the two week international break.

Brighton play at Leeds United in another top of the table clash in the late kick-off game tomorrow.

Here’s the latest standings at the top of the Championship after tonight’s two important games.

    Ed,
Small correction: Huddersfield has played only 37 games after tonight’s loss, not 38.

Huddersfield still have a game in hand and later on have Fulham at home who are definitely pushing for the play offs.
After the two week international break pitches should be drier and weather improved so that should also be a bonus for the likes of Gayle , Ritchie, Perez and Atsu to play pacey attacking football.

Haven’t enjoyed a game as much for a while now. Great result, but to be fair I thought Bristol City were good value, particularly in the second half. Three points tomorrow and things will really be looking up

They go to Forest, Wolves and Birmingham, all desperate for points and away to Derby who’ll be much better under Gary Rowett imo.

Home to Fulham, Norwich and Preston.

Think the other two are home to Burton and Cardiff. I thought they’d a much easier run in going by the comments on here to be honest.

The wheels would really need to come off for us to lose automatic spot imo

To be fair, I don’t think too many saw that coming. Not just the loss, but the manner was appalling imo. RT hey certainly didn’t look anything like themselves tonight and that eases some of the pressure off Brighton and ourselves. Like I said, there’ll be some strange results between now and May and it’ll likely go all the way. We just need to take care of business at our end and let them worry, not us. A win tomorrow could knock the stuffing out of them, but we need the win. Fancy us to do it tomorrow as well. Points on the table ahead of games in hand all day long. Howay the Lads!!!!

Lot of games in April for most teams, so injuries and fatigue will play a big role. Our strength in depth might just be the deciding factor on going up or… going up. Refuse to even contemplate that other option, it just ain’t me. 🙂 Never doubted it this far and I simply ain’t changing that belief.
Disappointed in Sheffield Weds allocation and prices. If they need the money that badly, they could’ve sold the game out to us. Whatever it takes to fill the ground, we’d have taken it no doubt. £43 for a Championship game’s a bit steep anyway, but giving us less tickets than they gave Leeds etc is downright wrong. Anti-Geordie Racism imo. 🙂

    So, bingo time I suppose.

    Darlow

    Anita Lascelles Handley Dummett.

    Shelvey Colback

    Ritchie Perez Atsu

    Gayle.

    0-2

Going with Gayle ahead of Big Murph purely on the away game tactics of hitting on the break with pace. Same with Atsu over The Gouff.

Just goes to show how much clubs worry about the effect tgat the Toon Army’s travellers have on away performances.

Yorky, they say the prices are because they don’t have parachute payments, but neither do 21 other clubs. Just another dig at us, but like I say, if they need the money that badly they could’ve sold the ground out nay bother – even at that price. Cutting their own throats financially if ye ask me. Could’ve put another 10k on the crowd. We’ll still make more noise than them anyway. 🙂
