Rafa Gives Injury Update – Fulham Was Wake-Up Call

Rafa Benitez has given his press conference this afternoon for the important game at Birmingham City against a struggling Blues side under manager Gianfranco Zola.

It was a rare off-day for most of the Newcastle players against Fulham and we hope it was just a blip – a bad day at the office – and the players will have a chance to show that’s all it was at St. Andrew’s tomorrow.

Rafa Benitez – at his press conference

Here’s some of the comments that are coming through in the local press by reporters at the press conference:

“Clark has a problem with his medial ligament so he won’t play. Dummett is fine.”

“We knew that Fulham were a good team but made too many mistakes.”

“When you do so well against Brighton and Huddersfield and then Reading everybody thinks it’s done but it was a wake up call.”

“The good thing about this division is you have a lot of games to put it right. We have 1 now vs Birmingham, then 7 next month”

“I was very disappointed vs Fulham as we were expecting to do well after 3 good games. We made too many mistakes and lost 3 points”

“It depends on us. If we do what we have to do, which is keep winning games, then it doesn’t matter about Huddersfield.”

“Birmingham have changed their system. They are trying to find solutions. It will be tough, they are more solid now than before”

“The key here is confidence but not over confidence. Every game is difficult.”

After the terrible disappointment of losing at home against Fulham last Saturday and allowing both Brighton and Huddersfield to gain 3 points on us we have to win this game tomorrow afternoon.

Here’s hoping.

Here’s the current state at the top of Championship before this next batch of games.

Four in five fans think we can win this game tomorrow.

@Dubai on prev thread – unfortunately, with our ground already over 50,000, the tv money and the ever increasing sponsorship money, guess the club see the cost of increasing the capacity far exceeding the gain in the short term (don’t think Ashley is here long term really, be surprised if hes still around by 2020).
If I was a businessman, that wasn’t a fan, not sure id see it as good business to increase the stadium either

It must be frustrating for Rafa when our players keep letting him down of late, especially at home. But unless Rafa experiments with different formation or makes earlier subs I’ll expect more of the same.
It’s getting to a crucial part of the season and our players are feeling the pressure, especially when everyone expects us to win.

Why don’t you think MA won’t stick around. As long as we’re back in the premier league he’ll want a piece, it’s great business for sports direct advertising alone. As far as the extra seating goes l can’t see that happening any time soon.

So Clark out then? Be very interesting to see who comes in! I suspect it’ll be Hanley as Birmingham’s chief threat is a big aerial striker!
Saw a journo talking about Mbemba being done at Newcastle and the reason the club didn’t move him on in January was largely down to him being at the AFCON! Said that on 4 occasions Mbemba has completely ignored Rafas game plan and instructions and just played his own game and on all 4 occasions, be it through positioning, or through how he’s tried to play the ball, the club analysts have highlighted Mbembas mistake to be a direct contribution to a phase of play where we have conceded. (not always direct mistakes, one example was wolves where rafa instructed the 2 CB’s to play diagonally as we lacked the height centrally and were stronger in the air out wide yet mbemba gave away possession with straight long balls numerous times and we lost the game).
Apparantly rafa doesn’t trust his tactical brain or his ability to play to disciplined instructions. Probably something in that, as i can’t remember the last time i saw mbemba on the pitch

@Toon KK – I think as a premier league club, we’ll be one of the last ‘big clubs’ left to be taken over. Can see more and more Billionaire companies buying up clubs, especially from the far east. TV money etc hasn’t peaked yet, the game gets bigger, Newcastle from a business P.O.V is well run, marketable etc Just think he’ll cash in his chips whilst the interest in UK football is at its highest which will probably be in the next 2-3 years. I think if Ashley gets his money back, plus a 150/200m profit he’ll go, his business interests are becoming less and less sports direct based, hes selling shares in the company regularly and they are declining, he’s got something like a billion in Chelsea property aswell as an increasing interest in higher fashion brands with the opening of more flannels stores etc. Think by 2020 his interests won’t be that aligned with Sports direct

Has Prutton realised that to truly curse us he just needs to predict a win?

@Jay – probably something in that, remember Dummett saying he plays to the exact instructions of Rafa, which is probably why he has nailed down LB position

Anyone heard of Ignacio Camacho, plays as a defensive mid for Malaga, looks really good would be a great addition for us if it’s true he has a £15mil release clause, real ball playing holding mid

    CL
Three Spanish – two German – one Italian – one French and Leicester as the only English team left – remarkable.
The Foxes with arguably the weakest Spanish club in the QF’s.
Could the gods be smiling on them for another season ?

Watching Dortmund. Atmosphere for a match against a team near bottom of the league is rocking. Every match folks are there for a sing song and a good time, whilst at the same time offering up unwavering support.

Sorry, but night and day with majority of entitled NUFC home spectators and the tense, disapproving silence they emit.

Really could do with taking a leaf, however I think the demographic has changed far too much. Too many people that think themselves middle-class and uppity compared to 20 years ago.

BRING BACK THE NOISE! BRING BACK THE RIFF-RAFF!
