This Number Of Wins Will Now See Newcastle Promoted

With Huddersfield surprisingly beaten 4-0 last night at Bristol City, it’s a great opportunity for Newcastle to go into the two week International break on 80 points from 38 games and be that much closer to an automatic promotion spot.

Huddersfield remain 6 points behind Newcastle with both clubs having now played 37 games, so we could extend that to 9 points this afternoon at Birmingham City with a win.

Rafa Benitez – will be keen to get win at Birmingham

And since our goal difference is better than Huddersfield’s – 38 versus 4 – we will really be 10 points above the Terriers who will have a game in hand.

So if they win that game in hand, they will still need to gain 7 points on Newcastle in the final 8 games.

The Terriers can now get a maximum of 98 points. so if we win at Birmingham this afternoon we will need another six wins in the final 8 games of the season to secure an automatic promotion spot.

Or if you like – seven wins in the final 9 games including the game this afternoon at St. Andrew’s.

The games begin again on April Fools day when we are at home to Wigan Athletic followed four days later with a home game against Burton Albion on the Wednesday night, before a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on the following Saturday.

If Newcastle win this afternoon, we would need another 18 points to be absolutely sure of finishing above Huddersfield – 6 wins or even five wins and three draws.

How about eight wins?

Sheff Wed are looking like the team to miss out on the play-offs. Reading did a number on them.
They still have to play Fulham, but have started losing at the wrong time.

Ten points isn’t that bad, puts you on joint fourth to 19th.

    toontaff,
That Fulham game could be a clincher, as I said I didn’t realise they were slipping so much.

    ..or Trollfynder General.
I can’t believe I’ve just read that Huddersfield blog with welsh’s hoof print there for all to see.
Is he a member of every club’s blogs, trolling on an industrial scale?
Oh dear, how incredibly sad is that???

Mildly surprised to see people putting Anita in at right back.
I don’t mind having him around as a utility player and he’s done ok in patches. But on the evidence of the last couple of weeks he is struggling very badly. Still nowhere near fit by the looks, could do with a few reserve games to put back a yard of pace cos he’s running through treacle.
Gamez is the better option in my opinion.

At this stage it’s about the results
No one will care or remember how we played next year only that we are back in the right league .
I think once we have wrapped up promotion we may see some free flowing stuff when the pressure is lifted and the flair players can cut loose and try things without that fear factor which is there for all to see at the moment.
The good news is we have he very best in charge to handle it .
Until then I will take shifty one nils week after week.
Not fantastic for the nerves though

Hope Sheffield Weds miss out on playoffs if only for charging us £43 a ticket
