Newcastle were unlucky not to get the win yesterday, but it was still 2 points dropped and again the problem was too many chances missed.
Our next games are at home to Wigan and Burton and we cannot keep dropping points against teams we should be beating.
It’s getting to be that time of the season when the only thing that matters is the result – we need win, wins and more wins if we are to be promoted this season.
We expected a win yesterday, but for the third time in succession didn’t get one.
:(.

SBR was a highly rated European manager but it took him a full season to put his stanp on the team, Tony Pullis is a mid table plodder and always will be.

Comment #7Yes I will I watch them even if we played at home and I was at the game
Some see god awful some see another point gained.
Some see top of the league others a shower of plight.
All just a matter of opinion.

It has been well documented now about yesterday. Inspired keeper playing out of his skin and a goal not given that should have stood. Plus having to play Colback instead of Hayden.
If you look at the team from 1 – 11, I think it’s extraordinary we are doing as well as we are. The Colbacks, Diames etc are simply not PL class, but for now are hopefully enough to get us over the line and then pray the fat man doesn’t shaft Rafa in the summer.

Was their keeper inspired? We barely tested him from what I could tell

Just looked, three shots on target, they must have been three truly exceptional saves.

Comment #11Extended highlights now available on NUFC.COM
Looking at the youtube highlights listed earlier, I find it
difficult to say whether or not Ritchie was offside.
Perez took Murphy’s head-down and shot, goalie blocked
it with his legs, ball bounced out back to Perez who was
sliding forward. He took another shot, at which time Ritchie
could be argued to be behind/level/ahead of Perez depending
on which part of the bodies (Perez and Ritchie) you take
as a basis for the decision.
My thoughts are:
1) Too close to call, cannot argue either way;
2) Advantage should go to the attacking team.

Comment #12Signing decent players is very tricky now. Especially signing half a team of them at once. Everyone up there in PL now has plenty of cash sloshing around, lots of teams are in for anyone who is worth having.
Then chuck sheister agents into the mix who tell players to hang on forever before signing while they set up a nice little bidding war..
We can identify all the targets we want but in the end there will be auction style market.
We can hope that players will see a club moving forward under a top, respected manager and choose us ahead of established Prem teams.. But it is going to be tough to recruit a host of new players in one summer.

Comment #13Extended highlights give a better angle/freeze capability.
Ritchie was behind Perez’ foot when Perez took his second
shot at goal.
Goal should have stood – but a near-impossible call for the
lineman.

Comment #19Well the game was not on TV
Saw the extended highlights
poor erratic attacking football as usual
seen this style all season & with this kind of football
we will never survive in the Premier League
expected more , far far more from Newcastle this season
expected to see good goals , passing the ball with pace
attacking down the wings ( I never see this )
we will get promotion , but i am let down ?

Comment #21@toonincheek: I didn’t notice that, actually. Here’s Ayoze’s last touch, and Ritchie is behind the defence, but in line with Ayoze’s foot.
Absolutely agreed that the linesman wouldn’t be able to call that, but christ it’s tight.

Comment #23From what I heard on the commentary H T Diame had a poor game, I wouldn’t have him in the match squad.
Slows and breaks down more of our play than the opposition.

Comment #24@Essex: The thing is, we have pace up front and out wide. With him playing in the hole he just holds us back because we wait for him to get into position, but when he’s playing deeper we tend to have a lot more about us going forward.
I like the guy, and can’t fault him for having heart, but when he’s out of form he’s practically a liability.

Comment #25Why don’t we appeal to the FA to ask if we could stay in the Championship, it would save all the worry on how we’ll do next season.
We can tyen get back to the real business of moaning about how we won’t get promoted.

From previous thread:
You are correct to say that SBR only achieved mid-table in his first year.
But –
You have to look at the starting point (which was miserable)
Now look at the points won once SBR took over and
reflect that over a season – you will find our form after
SBR took over was good for about 5th place.

On Saturday 24 Oct 1992 after winning 11 games on the bounce in the old 1st Division Keegan’s Newcastle lost at home to Grimsby 0-1 .
It was quite a shock !
There was not too much blogging then but I remember distinctly later that day on High Bridge some goon calling for Keegan’s head .
You didn’t used to drink in the Duke of Welly in the ’90’s by any chance ?

The Heed back in the league would be fantastic.
Always felt they were hard done to.
Bit like the Eurovision Song Contest.
All the teams regularly in the bottom 3 seemed to organise
the voting to ensure re-election, but the one and only time the
Heed were in the bottom 3, they got dumped.
Or – am I confusing history with Accrington Stanley?
Don’t think so – but ready to be corrected.

Comment #38As long as Rafa is given the reigns and the deadwood/not good enough players are cashed in on, I’m confident that we’ll be able to build a decent premier league side around the core of Darlow/Lascelles/Yedlin/Shelvey/Hayden/Ritchie/Gayle. If we can attract the likes of Gamez and Ritchie in the championship I’m excited to see who we can attract under rafa in the prem.
Still not there yet though, nice break now for Rafa to prepare the lads for the final stretch
