This 23 Year-Old Defender Would Be Great Signing For Newcastle

Newcastle have been linked heavily with Hull City center-back Harry Maguire in the recent past and if the reports are to be believed Newcastle are in the driving seat to sign him once we are promoted back to the Premier League.

We were also interested in signing 19 year-old Partizan Belgrade center-back Nikola Milenkovic, but he has just signed pre-contract forms with Fiorentina and he will be joining them in the summer.

Harry Maguire at £12M would be and excellent singing for us if indeed he is Rafa’s first choice for a center-back to bring in this summer.

Michael Keane – 23 year-old Burnley center-back

Another center-back who Newcastle have been interested in signing in the past could also be a Rafa target and he is Burnley’s former Manchester United center-back Michael Keane, who has been having an excellent season in the Premier League this season.

Michael was born in Stockport and signed professional forms at Manchester United on his 18th birthday in January 2011 and he made his Red Devils debut in the League Cup in October of that year.

But appearances in the Manchester United first team were few and far between and he spent loan spells at Leicester City, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers and Burnley to get first team experience.

Michael eventually signed on at Burnley in January of 2015 on a three and a half year contract.

Keane is qualified to play for the Republic of Ireland because of his Irish ancestry and played for their U17 and U19 teams before playing for the England U19 and U21 sides; he played 16 times with 3 goals for the England U21 side.

Michael is an accomplished and skillful center-back at 6ft 2ins tall and he’s been getting excellent reviews for his play this season in the Premier League.

There are already a number of top clubs interested in him so Rafa would have competition if he decided he was the top center-back target he wants to sign this summer.

It seems almost certain that Chancel Mbemba will leave Newcastle in the summer and Rafa will bring in a top center-back to replace the 28 times capped DR Congo International and Michael Keane certainly seems to fit the bill.

He has played 102 times for Burnley with 5 goals and has played over 50 games in the Premier League and could improve big time under Rafa Benitez’s coaching.

What do you think?

I predict that if Mbemba goes to a European club especially Italian or Spanish he’ll become a fantastic player, I’m for keeping him.

    Last thread.

Krul is garbage, flappy hands and can’t kick a ball for toffee. Creates hesitancy in defence. Steady decline since his emergence.

    Darlow no1
    Elliot no2
    Woodman no3

    Sels and Krul out.

Re: your question a couple threads back – “who would be a good number 10 transfer?”
I would love to see Rafa make a big offer to get Gylfi Sigurdsson, especially if Swansea go down. It sounds as if Everton are planning a move for him though so our offer would have to be big!

    HAIL WOR ASHLEY.

    Your comment made me laugh.

    Krul has flappy hands?

    Darlow is a SHOCKING keeper.
At least once a game he drops the ball, fumbles it, or gets bullied in the air.

He can go back to Forest with Lascelles. Pair of donkeys.

Mbabu is doing really well out on loan as well he could very well fill a fullback or centre back slot next season!

He has pace power and can pass a ball and a season playing every week will mean he should be ready to fight for his place! Still only 21 !

NUFC has allowed fewest goals in the league with Darlow and Lascelles and Clark at the core of defense. Donkeys? You guys just having a go, eh?

    LCBP,
Good to hear that! He is one of only a few players out on loan that may have a future with the Mags. Looks like Siem DeJong is also finally getting into a good run of fitness and form too. Hope he remains fit, he clearly can play if fit.

    On previous thread

Couldn’t care less how krul kicks the ball as long as he does his no1 job which is keep the ball out by making saves. Darlow was error ridden in the premier league and has made some huge errors this season which have cost us points.

Darlow isn’t anywhere near vocal enough, his communication is really poor and for a goalkeeper that isn’t good enough, example being the QPR. Norwich game had another massive error, Bristol city at home no communication again, rush of blood coming out of goal and being in no man’s land.

Last season the goal he conceded against spurs….meant nothing in the end but how does a keeper get beat from that angle at the near post? Against West Bromwich at home…..lost us a crucial point where he fluffed a simple save.

Darlow is pish and playing at his level, he’s made some very good saves but that’s what he’s being paid to do, the errors and poor communication is a sign of things to come next season when we won’t be dominating the ball as much and will be under more pressure.

Darlow & Lascelles are both quite young and do make the odd mistake but calling them donkeys is ridiculous. Are they top Premiership standard I’m not sure but they certainly can do a job for us in our first season back.

Rob Elliot was named in Martin O’Neill’s provisional Irish squad for their crucial WCQ match v Wales on the 24th.
However he has not made the final 27 – but I would not rule him out of contention for the goalie’s spot at NUFC bfore seasons end.

I wonder just how good people actually think our current players are? They’re doing a good job in the championship, but they’d be battling it out with Sunderland, boro, hull etc at the bottom of the premier league-believe it.
I’m sure Rafa will know what we’ll need to strengthen well but will Mash stump up the car?
If we are promoted survival would be a successful season in our first season back. Then start to build up to a mid table club.

Fifa 2017, what happened to championship manager or whatever they call it these days. Some of us are a bit old and busy for console games.

Nope we aren’t promoted as it’s been rightly pointed out bit does that mean we can’t have hypothetical conversations about what we see as right options for the premier league? Or do we just sit back and discuss the rights and wrongs of the last 3 weeks / this season without looking forward?

I wonder if we will be linked to Jefferson Montero again in the summer?

Keane is more likely to go to a top 6 team, already being linked to Liverpool. We have had six players playing CB this season and that position does not seem to be a priority. However, listening to the Guardian Podcast and Pontus Jansson would be a good bet playing for Leeds on loan from Torino, is 194cm tall and was dropped in their last game against Brighton. Another player mentioned was Massimo Luongo who plays D/C midfield for QPR.

We can’t talk about next season as we haven’t achieved promotion. If I was pushed to discuss though I’d say we will be relegation fodder with what we have.

Shelvey long raking passes won’t work anywhere near as often and as he proved last time he’d give it away more than find someone. Gayle won’t be anywhere near prolific, it’ll be worrying times unless the squad is given a proper revamp.

I know a few have highlighted a need for a no10 but I personally think we need a ball winning midfielder and a very good one. That would be my main priority, look at how teams have struggled without a proper ball winning midfielder.

As CB goes I’d like us to get Sakho who’s on loan at Palace.

Siguardson is a good shout as a no10 or Insigne but don’t think that’ll happen.

Luke Shaw has been spoken about and would like him

Cairney could be risk but defo an upgrade on what we have.

Can’t think of to many forwards unfortunately but we need them.

Get rid of Mitro to get some cash back

Don’t think Sakho does have an attitude problem, he was late a couple of times, he has poor time keeping but did apologise and never did it again….Klopp didn’t forgive him though, but look at how he’s played at palace. 3 games 3 clean sheets and 3 motm performances.

I agree on a midfield enforcer, Hayden simply isn’t good enough for that role

Navas can never beat the first man when crossing. 1 goal in over 100 games for man city is a poor return.

I’d defo look at Delph though, he’s another I’d add to list.

    Kone
    Sakho
    Shaw
    Delph
    Cairney
    Insigne / siguardson

Still need a proper enforcer and CF

I’ll have to keep an eye on sakho. Hayden is a young pup so would benefit from a mentor in the midfield role.
