Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle had been names on a three player shortlist for Championship Player of the Season with Brighton’s Anthony Knockeart and Leeds United striker Chris Wood the other two to be recognized.
It’s a pity that Dwight has been injured recently but Dwight had 21 goals and one every 92 minutes compared to Chris who has a table topping 24 goals with a goal every 121 minutes.
Seven years ago Newcastle’s Kevin Nolan was the Player of the Season in the Championship during our promotion year.

This is what EFL Chief Executive Shaun Harvey said:
“It’s been an exciting and action-packed 12 months for the EFL both on and off the pitch.”
“There have been some incredible individual and team performances across the three divisions, entertaining the millions of fans who follow the EFL week in, week out.”
“The EFL Awards are a fantastic way to recognize the achievements of clubs, players, backroom staff and fans.”
“And I would like to personally congratulate everyone who has been nominated and wish them all the best on the night itself.”
Dwight deserves to win it because of his tremendous goal-scoring record this season.
If Dwight had played as many minutes as Chris Wood has this season he would have score 32 goals – one third more than Chris has scored.
