Newcastle’s Number 9 Up For Top Award For Season

Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle had been names on a three player shortlist for Championship  Player of the Season with Brighton’s Anthony Knockeart and Leeds United striker Chris Wood the other two to be recognized.

It’s a pity that Dwight has been injured recently but Dwight had 21 goals and one every 92 minutes compared to Chris who has a table topping 24 goals with a goal every 121 minutes.

Seven years ago Newcastle’s Kevin Nolan was the Player of the Season in the Championship during our promotion year.

Dwight Gayle – Newcastle number 9 up for Player of the Season

This is what EFL Chief Executive Shaun Harvey said:

“It’s been an exciting and action-packed 12 months for the EFL both on and off the pitch.”

“There have been some incredible individual and team performances across the three divisions, entertaining the millions of fans who follow the EFL week in, week out.”

“The EFL Awards are a fantastic way to recognize the achievements of clubs, players, backroom staff and fans.”

“And I would like to personally congratulate everyone who has been nominated and wish them all the best on the night itself.”

Dwight deserves to win it because of his tremendous goal-scoring record this season.

If Dwight had played as many minutes as Chris Wood has this season he would have score 32 goals – one third more than Chris has scored.

What do you think?

Can think of quite a few more who have as much right to be on the shortlist with several from us for starters.

Not sure he’s even Newcastle player of the season? Personally I’d probably have Ciaran Clark and Matt Ritchie just ahead of him for the season…
Similarly, not sure Knockaert has been Brightons best player.. Dale Stephens and possibly Dunk have been their rocks!
Chris Wood be a decent shout though! Personally my championship player of the season would be Mooy from Huddersfield!

will say though, reckon Gayle might still top the charts. Wouldn’t be shocked to see him get another 7/8 goals. The fixtures we have, the rest this week etc probably fall in our favour. Wigan and Burton at home should be goals. Got mates who are albion season ticket holders, they reckon the size of the pitch will destroy their side as they’re all running on fumes and most of their points come at the Pirelli (smallest pitch in the league)
    Gayle hattrick is my bet

Reckon Clark Shelvey and maybe Ritchie would argue with Gayle over who should be in that list though but tough to beat 20+ goals

I see Bennys move to PSG hasn’t worked out and he’s after a move in the Summer won’t be to us obviously but it’s sad to see he still hasn’t found a home. He’ll always be a what could of been player unfortunately

Am not sure where Sigurdsson will end up Liverpool or Everton but hes not really up to being a Klopp player and Everton are stacked with similar players…Arsenals bench maybe? Maybe go abroad

@wwsbrd – reckon Benny would do well in China! Exciting player, would get the fans off their feet etc but the league isn’t as athletic as the americans so his laziness wouldn’t be as big an issue…
Cracking atmosphere in the Chinese games too! Really really good! Good games to watch too, all focus on attack

@wwsbrd – can see Sigurdsson going to everton tbh! Lot of similar players in his position but McCarthy will leave, rumour has it that Barkley will be cashed in on if someone offers enough as Koeman isn’t sold on him. Valencia only on loan, think Kone out of contract, deulefeu and cleverly unlikely to return on loan, Barry another year older etc

considering Swansea rejected a £30m bid from a Chinese club for sigurdsson in January, that pretty much rules is out, id rather Tom cairney for far cheaper.

    My summer shopping list:
    Charlie Taylor
    Ignacio Camacho
    Tom Cairney
    Jesé Rodriguez
    Andre Gray or Josh King

Possibly another centre back not sure who though

I hope he goes back to Nice tbh and just enjoys himself there but it right he will end up in China becoming a 1 man highlight reel

Everton are the only team ive seen linked with him tbh so he will likely go there depends on if Koeman stays really Lukaku has 1 foot out the door already and Koeman has never really committed to being at Everton for me, always got an eye on his next club I think

If Swansea go down they won’t be rejecting 15-20 imo and he will likely have a contract clause in that case anyway

Ben arfa, our most talented player since the entertainers has one more big stint in him I think. And it ain’t Newcastle:

Armchair – interesting stuff about Jib being a catfish.
For others I’ve copied the definition :-
    “Catfish.
Someone who pretends to be someone they’re not online to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances.”

Only folk Jib/Jane is really friendly with is Welsh and Ian Toon.
They might not realise what is going on with “the lusty poster”.
