Fans React To Report Rafa Could Leave Magpies For Hammers

There was another negative report from the Mirror this morning that Rafa Benitez could leave Newcastle for West Ham in the summer with the Hammers targeting the former Valencia and Liverpool manager if current manager Slaven Bilic doesn’t produce improved results before the end of this season.

At the beginning of the season when West Ham got off to a very poor start there were also reports the London club could go after Rafa if results didn’t improve.

We think there’s very little chance that Rafa would leave Newcastle for the Hammers – unless owner Mike Ashley messes with Rafa in the summer – but that would be stupid if the owner did that.

🙁

Again, Trinity Mirror (Chronicle owner) making up stories.

You got to wonder why they hate us as much as they do.

If Benitez earns what is rumoured, then I cannot see West Ham matching those kind of wages.

I do though find it difficult to believe that Benitez earns £4/5 million a year. Around £3 would seem more realistic, which is approximately what Bilic is paid.

West Ham will have a bigger transfer budget… it will surely be tempting.

AncientC @2 – I would think Rafa is being paid more than £3 per year 🙂
Seriously what ever he earns I would imagine at his stage of his career it is not solely about money but the job itself. I think he is enjoying his ‘project’ but if Ashley seriously p*sses him off then I could see him leaving.

I don’t think so. There is nothing to suggest yet that Rafa will go. As for the red tops, it’s nothing personal. We are the gift that keeps on giving in terms of juicy news stories, as ever. When you have the track record Ashley has, it’s not hard to stoke up rumours of his intent to crap in his own nest..

Lets have some balanced discussions on this.

Evening Chronicle lets slip that Steve Maclaren is top of West Ham’s list with Denis Wise as assistant water boy.

    Seems fair to me

On previous I noted wiji was only trusted with throwing the ball!
On this I don’t think there’s any chance of him going to West ham even if he does leave here much bigger clubs will be after him
Here he can hear the real noise of 50000 fans not the canned stuff that lot have to put out on the speakers

Newcastle will be promoted back to the PL and Rafa will be staying, and I imagine the club (including fat boy) will back Rafa in the transfer market which according to various reports is moving along nicely behind the scenes.

I doubt he has any intention of joining the Hammers, even if we failed in our promotion bid (though we won’t).

I personally think Rafa will be here for the long haul, and looking at putting some silverware into our empty cabinets.

This all goes back to the report that Ashley wasn’t happy with some of Rafa’s signings and that he wanted Carr more involved in signing players of 26 or younger.

Add to that the fact that we didn’t strengthen the first team in the winter window and it’d be reasonable to assume that Rafa may be unhappy at Newcastle United and would require guarantees going forward.

And, it’s reported that Charnley’s been seeking sponsors to replace Wonga.

Now, assuming that we do go up to the Prem this summer and we have new sponsors in place, Ashley would have to be barking mad to not offer Rafa his full support and a guarantee of his non-interference in Rafa’s sphere of responsibilities.

Ah well, we might think that Rafa’d be staying to build on what he’s achieved and yes that’d be great.

But, Ashley’s pulled some master strokes of stupidity in his time he’s owned the Club and whilst we thought he’d learned lessons from them but how many more are there to come?

And where’s West Ham gonna get the money to pay out lots of money for players and Rafa?

Well, from us the taxpayers who’ve coughed up to pay for the former Olympic stadium and are paying to subsidise West Ham renting a new stadium!
