The Chronicle is reporting today some good news on the injury front and it looks like of the four players who pulled out of Internationals over the two week break, three will be fit to face Wigan Athletic at home on Saturday afternoon at St. James’ Park.
Those three are Paul Dummett, Grant Hanley and Daryl Murphy with Daryl being the biggest surprise of the three.
Paul and Grant seemed to be pulled as precautionary measures two weeks ago, but the Irish medical team did a scan on Daryl’s calf injury and sent him home last week.
Daryl Murphy – fit for Saturday
Since it’s been a chronic injury for Murphy there was some alarm – at least in the Irish camp.
So it’s really good that Daryl is fit and he could start on Saturday with Dwight Gayle coming on some time in the second half.
On the other hand Rafa will have seen Dwight Gayle train these last two weeks and he may think he’s got his sharpness back and is ready to start and start scoring those goals for us once again.
The player who will still not be fit is center-back Ciaran Clark, but the Chronicle reports he is is doing well in his recovery, so hopefully that means he will not miss too many more games after being injured against Fulham.
For the first time this season Newcastle have failed to win a game in any three match stretch; in our last three games we drew at Reading and Birmingham and lost 3-1 at home to Fulham.
If we are to clinch that automatic promotion spot we must get back to our winning ways and start scoring those goals again.
A good time to do that is on Saturday against second bottom Wigan Athletic.
Here are the top six in the Championship table before we begin our final eight games of what has been a very tough season.
