It looks like Alan Judge is no longer a target of Newcastle United as the news is that he signed a two-year contract extension with Brentford yesterday.
Alan would have become a free agent in the summer and there was some possibility that Newcastle could sign him on a pre-contract agreement now and complete the move on July 1st when the summer transfer window opens and the new financial year begins.
Alan Judge – signs two year deal at Brentford
But that hasn’t happened, so it looks like his long layoff with a double leg break ended Newcastle interest maybe even last August when the Tyneside club pulled out of a potential deal.
While Alan is untested in the Premier League he would have been little risk for the Magpies with him being a free transfer, but Rafa Benitez has obviously decided against bringing him to the club.
We were apparently all set yo sign Alan in the last week of August, but when told he would not be playing until this year Newcastle pulled out of that deal.
It seems we never renewed our interest in the creative midfielder who was on the Championship Team of the Season for last term.
This is a good move by Brentford because it keeps him at the club through 2019 and if he is transferred they will now get the full value for him in the transfer market since is contracted to the Bees for the next two years.
Well – that’s one potential transfer target we can cross of the list for this summer.
Let hope we can sign Tom Cairney of Fulham this summer.
