Andros Townsend was a big hit with Newcastle fans when he joined us from Tottenham 15 months ago for about £12M and especially when Rafa arrived at the club last March he became our star man and played great.
But we didn’t make it and were still related, although we ended up with 37 points and 12 of those points came in the final six games of Rafa’s 10 games in charge of the team.
Rafa had sorted it all out but it was too late unfortunately.
The obvious chemistry between Andros Townsend and Rafa Benitez
Come back Andros!
And it’s now history that Andros for his own career decided to leave the club for Premier League Crystal Palace – hardly a big club with any great history in England.
This is what Andros has said in a Telegraph interview:
““I was at Tottenham and I’ve had all the loan spells and then I went to Newcastle and said ‘I want to stay here for a few years’ .”
“But unfortunately that didn’t work out and I had to move to stay in the Premier League.”Everything was so positive at Newcastle.”
It’s just the one negative that Newcastle) didn’t stay in the Premier League.”
“I was signed to help them stay up and it didn’t happen.” “The main thing I took from that is that a team is never too good to go down.”
“Maybe last season we were looking around thinking ‘we’ve got good players, we’ll be all right’ and in the end we weren’t.”
“Now this time around at Palace we have a dressing room full of international players, good players, but you can’t just say ‘we’ll be all right’.
“We have to make it happen.”
Andros should probably stop talking about how great things were at Newcastle when he left us.
Andros left when things were not good and he’ll never be able to change that.
Actions always speak louder than words (which are cheap) and if Andros pushed for a move back to Newcastle this summer we’re sure he can get back with Rafa a big fan and still in charge.
And then he can be a top player in our expected (huge) future successes under Rafa Benitez.
That would be the very best way to get over leaving Newcastle United when we were in trouble – come back and help us be great again.
It’s going to happen.
