Newcastle 2 Wigan 1 – Video Highlights For Overseas Fans

Here’s the official video highlights of yesterday’s game, which seems to play for overseas fans.

It was a great win yesterday and we must get another 3 points on Wednesday night against Burton.

The Brewers beat Huddersfield 1-0 away yesterday, with Jackson Irvine scoring the winner a full six minutes into stoppage time.

    Tell ya what lads..
Good bit of planning for our Good Friday fixture.
Leeds at home. 7.45pm kick off on the bank holiday.
A large amount of inebriated Toon and Dirty Leeds fans ‘fresh’ from a day’s drinking.
Could be a spicy day oot.

I don’t know whether anyone’s already posted about this but The Sunday Times today carries a report by Martin Hardy on the front page of its Sport section stating that Rafa is set to stay!

12 points from our last 18 and we’re guaranteed promotion regardless of what the others do. As they drop points, so our promotion requirement drops too. Come on boys, let’s start with 3 points on Wednesday against Burton

Still scratching my head how Wigan actually scored!
We actually started the second-half well.
But never looked like Wigan would get another.
Ritchie penalty was stonewall to all except ref and linesman. Why was Ritchie not booked for diving, ref?

SITC I agree with your previous comment about Colback, I thought he had a very good game. I also thought Anita played well with a hand in both goals.
Leeds match will be a nightmare all day bank holiday drinking and no public transport!

Off topic but if we go up one player I think we could do with is Traore from Borough I mentioned him before Villa moved him and think he would be major upgrade to Gouff next season would much rather him then Townsend if we are looking for winger

Excuse the spell check you know who I mean the lad from the smoggies.. There should be some decent players that on teams going down that will want to remain in Prem as there will be players in Championship not going up that will want to be in Prem also excited to see if we go up how the team will shape up over the summer

Aye nobody stood out a long way in the teams performance for me. Happy for us to keep going the way we are for the next 7. It’s becoming more clear every week this is the way this squad is most capable of achieving the points we need. Keep it tight first and we will get enough chances to get the wins. I’d take it every day of the week
to get out of the championship. Look at the table.

Thanks for the highlight reel ED. Been difficult to watch this year from Canada with so little Championship coverage.

Teams looks on form (though this was just Wigan) but at top of table with Brighton I’m just delighted we’re on our way straight up with Rafa.

ED – On a personal note I’ve only been checking into the blog monthly or so and I just saw your health update. Keep fighting, if it helps there’s an entire blog following that is rooting for you as much as we do the Toon! Your own personal Toon army. Stay strong!

Aye, I was thinking about Fabio from the smoggies. If they go down he could be available and wouldn’t cost much. Signed for them for 2million on a 2 yr deal before this season. A Boro fan I know says he’s been impressive in a team that hasn’t conceded too many.
Left back but I think he can play right as well.
I was surprised to see he’s still only 26..

Sitting here watching the full game on NUFCTV and I’m getting bloody motion sickness! Who’s doing the camera work for them? Me Mam could do better. Zooming in, then out. Then over to a shot of an empty net, then desperately searching for where the ball is. Zooming in again. Can’t wait for us to (hopefully) be back in the top flight again and some professional coverage.

Still, despite my old bloke moaning, it’s better than nowt, right?

Three good goals. Anita’s threaded pass, Diame’s run and cross, Gayles anticipation, all very precise and in unison. Ritchie just doesn’t give up, and great reflex finish, and Jacob’s goal had a touch of Bergkamp about it. Great turn, nutmeg inside the box, and cheeky finish.

West Ham have been linked with Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez but he is set to stay with the Magpies, who are closing in on promotion back to the Premier League, next season ( The Times )

    Chancel,

The shot of the empty net is peculiar; I can only assume it has something to do with editing. But as you said, this video is so much better than nothing and the need for promotion, so we can watch these games, is by far the number one priority this season.

Not the most entertaining game yesterday, but you know what? Couldn’t care less. Not a jot. Right now, the only thing that matters is three points and that’s what we got. I don’t think any proper Toon fan cares about the performance as long as we get promoted. Rafa came into this with one single aim – promotion. Just look at the squad he assembled. Mainly good honest hard working professionals, blended into a team that wins even if it is ugly. He knows the PL and will rebuild accordingly, so you can’t really read anything into this season. Personally I think he’s done a great job.

Aye, I listen to the true faith podcast (which I recommend highly to anyone who doesn’t know it) and they had a special with George Caulkin a month or two ago. He warned a few times in the episode that it was up in the air whether Rafa was going to stay beyond this season.

Given the positive report by Craig Hope in The D***y M**L earlier in the week it looks like he will be staying.

    Bobby,

Right on. The joy I will have until Wednesday because of the three points far outweighs how those points were obtained. We both have been beating the same drum; we didn’t have a great team coming down, but luckily we found a manager who was able to assemble a squad that could focus on the one objective – get enough points to move on up. This season was never about building a premiere league team that plays pretty football, but playing a type of football that scores more, concedes less, and ends with more points than the third place team. So close now to that being the case. If Hudd go 7-1-0 they have 95 points. All we need to do is go 3-3-1 to win on GD. Not a done deal, but…

Rafa signed a contract. He’s very unlikely to break it just to go to West bloody Ham. Ashley will back him in the summer and all will be well. The media have always liked to make up stories about us and most of the time that’s exactly what they are – stories. Fairy tales. Rafa’s already got the scouts out for next seasons Recruits and we can expect quite a few new faces. Not expecting us to pull up any trees next season, it’s more about getting reestablished and putting in place the first part of the eventual squad. Those of us on here who demand a win every game are in for a rough ride I reckon. 🙂 I’m more looking to the following season for fun and games.

Fixture wise I wouldn’t swap out run-in for Brighton or Huddersfield we play some proper doldrum clubs ha ha but those two have some tricky fixtures with play off pushers like Norwich, Fulham… It’s really ours to chuck away. We’d have to go on a pretty disastrous run to let Huddersfield get anywhere near.

Jack, I’ll happily take the same again Wednesday night mate. Right now every point matters, not how we get them. Not that I thought Wigan ever looked like winning, just that it wasn’t free flowing and as pretty as it could be. So what matey? If anybody isn’t happy with it, tough titties. One more step towards the PL. Playing here clearly gives the opposition a lift anyway, which isn’t surprising. Thought the crowd was a bit better Saturday, bit louder etc. Onwards and upwards for the Mighty Magpies.

We really could do with blowing Burton away to mess up our nearest rivals heads. Especially Brighton, who put four past them. To say we are overdue tonking someone at home is an understatement.

Looks like Huddersfield have hit the wall. Thrashed at Bristol City and then beaten at home by Burton – two games they would’ve won a month ago. Long season finally caught up with them. Rafa’s early/mid season rotation paying dividends now. Players still fresh enough to see the job through. All those doubters will hopefully see the sense to it now.

Would be nice to blow them away big style and a lot depends on which team he picks and how Burton handle playing in front of a big crowd. We need to get behind them and not expect too much. We could scare them half to death if we tried! 🙂 They need the win as much as we do though, for totally different reasons. If they try to take the game to us a hammering could well be on the cards. Personally I think they’ll park the bus and try to nick it from a set piece. An early goal changes that though.

Welshie, what? Do you doubt he can? I’ll take what he did for Liverpool in an instant. Harder for him in this league than the PL matey, he knows the top leagues and players much better. He’s a winner both here and across Europe. I don’t doubt for one second he can do it. There’s nothing on his CV to suggest he can’t. Waited all my life for a chance to see us win something and he’s the best chance I’ve had. Why do you doubt him?
