News today that Dan Barlaser has been offered to top Turkish club Besiktas by his agents and that’s according to reports coming out of Turkey – which are not always accurate.
But since Dan is one of our top youngsters at Newcastle it would come as a bit of a surprise if Rafa Benitez is willing to let him go when he has only just turned 20.
Of course he is of Turkish descent and we suppose this adds to the potential validity of the story, even if it’s not true.

It’s not clear whether Dan is being offered for only a loan deal, but it seems it’s a permanent move being talked about by his agents and if that’s true it’s indicative of how the standards have already improved with Rafa Benitez at the club.
And as we move back to the Premier League for next season (hopefully) those standards will keep increasing and the youngsters have to be really top players to make it at the club.
That’s one reason why Rafa has tasked his scouting team with bringing in much better youngsters to Newcastle, so at least some of them can make it through to the first team – which has been a strategy employed by owner Mike Ashley for 10 years.
We just haven’t been too successful at it, but if Rafa is as successful as we think he’s going to be at Newcastle, then the footballing standards will keep improving and rather dramatically too.
Dan was born in Gateshead and joined the Newcastle Youth Academy when he was only 9 years old.
He played in the FA Cup this season against both Birmingham City and Oxford United and did quite well and didn’t look out of his depth – and he’s been a regular for Peter Beardsley’s U23 side this season.
