France Football have a report out that Newcastle and Rafa Benitez are interested in signing 25 year-old French full-back Kevin Malcuit in the summer and the 6ft tall player currently plays for St. Etienne.
Malcuit was born in Châtenay-Malabry, a suburb of Paris and he moved to his current club from Chamois Niortaisare in the summer of 2014.
The report is that Newcastle will be interested in bringing the Frenchman to Newcastle should we be promoted this season back to the Premier League.
25 year-old French full-back Kevin Malcuit
West Ham are the other club said to be scouting the player and interested in signing him in the summer.
While he generally plays as a full-back he has also played as a winger and even as a striker, ao he is quite versatile, but we expect the full-back position is where Rafa will play him at Newcastle.
Two of our full-backs signed last summer, Jesus Gamez and Achraf Lazaar have not really been successful at Newcastle this season and have hardly played much at all.
The manager will want to bring in the right-sided player to increase competition in the squad for the current right full-backs who play in the first team – DeAndre Yedlin and Vurnon Anita.
That’s if Rafa decides to extend Vurnon’s contract and gives him a new deal this summer and that is still up in the air a little bit.
We also don’t think Kevin Mbabu has much of a future at Newcastle under Benitez and Kevin will return for pre-season training in early July after his season long loan spell at Young Boys in Switzerland.
Kevin Malcuit will not come cheap and the fee is estimated to be around £10M.
He started his career at Monaco and has played 29 times in all competitions this season for St. Etienne.
