Benitez Explains Why The Owls Will Be Tough Today

Rafa Benitez has said many times this season that the teams who are experienced in the Championship are very tough opponents and that in part is because they know what’s it’s like in the league and they know what it takes to be successful.

Newcastle have done well this season so far, but we have still thrown away far too many points by giving away late goals or squandering chances and failing to kill the game off when we were well on top.

But we’ll still take the 84 points we have from our first 40 games and hope to add a lot of those points in the final six games of this season.

Owls Portuguese manager Carlos Carvalhal

This is what Rafa has told the local press today about the Owls:

“Sheffield Wednesday deserved their win (at St. James’ Park) and were very well organised. They are a good team and know what to do.”

“Teams with experience in the Championship know what is needed and they know each other really well.”

“They were nearly there last season and, when you have the same structure and the same players, they know what you have to do to get points in this division.”

“It will be tough and difficult, especially now they are in a play-off position. Like a lot of teams they are fighting for their target.”

“If they are in the play-offs, it’s because they deserve to be there.”

There are about three in five fans who think we can win this game this afternoon.

We hope they are right, because if we win the game we’ll stay top of the league.

Spurs 3 Watford 0 at half time.
all 3 goals shots from outside the box.
3 different scorers, Kane on the bench.

Toonbotherer should be proud that TOF has bravely donned the mantle of WUM Complainer and is using his mighty blogging powers to devastating effect, not letting any pestilent nuisance like fact deflect him from his irrational hatred of the one man tasked, and succeeding with a promotion remit (damn him how dare he!) .

Hard to believe that he is not a tiresome infester from the backwash with his yearnings to join the heathen hordes of the Wear, or rooting for Brighton, so many miles away from the Geordie hills and valleys, to beat us into a precarious second place.

“It may be sacrilege to say that winning is not everything, but is not nicer to respect your team and hey, win also. No one could ever say that we are near perfect, but I truly like our team and the manner in which Rafa goes about his business. He has the right balance of passion and dignity that in many ways is as important as a final result. People can rightly criticize a tactical/team selection decision here and there, but criticizing the man has, as far as I can see from over here, has zero justification.

If Bournemouth can get something tonight, it would make the top of the EPL table a lot more interesting. Wont be watching that game, but will check the score here and there. Toon finally on TV again, I will trey to keep my eyes open.

football intelligence is too subtle for some fans.

the team has regularly shown good football intelligence this season to play in the best way to get results.

that’s why we probably won’t lose today.

Sheff Wed are in 6th place – that place being under serious threat
    by Fulham.
They desperately need to win to be in the play-offs.

    NOT an easy game.

There’s a lot of pressure on the lads today so if we get a win, it’ll be one helluva result – ugly game or not.

Rafa has said that Hayden and Colback aren’t going to be starters apparently.

So Diame is probably going to sit alongside Shelvey again.

I’m also pleased to admit that HT was pretty good against Burton although there was a couple of times his control was lacking. Just hope he’s not in the hole as he doesn’t really fit there.

    3-0 to us

Can’t help feeling it’s time we gave someone a thrashing and they should be well up for it, wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t bang in a few more.

Aye, the Beeb’s not the first – The Torygraph managed it with Dave Swarbrick in 1999.

He pulled round and managed another 16 years – a fair few of them still turning out for Fairport. Bless him.

Not sure that BBC article about Agents fees is dated correctly, it says 2016-17 in the title and then refers to 2014-15 as the previous figures.

As the Financial figures for 2015-16 have only just become available, I can not believe the article has the correct year. I would presume the money shown represents the summer transfer window of 2015 and winter 2016, when we purchased Wijnaldum, de Jong, Thauvan and then (off the top of my head) Mbemba and Mitrobic. The net spend was very significant, especially after what followed, but the transfer fees were on the whole reasonable as the players were coming towards the end of their contracts.

Agents are no mugs, the prices may reduce but their payments stay the same or even increase when the buying club is desperate.

Well, well, well. Didn’t know that Swarbs rocked up at Albert Lee’s 70th. That was indicative of the esteem Albert Lee commands being a highly respected but relatively unsung hero – a bit like David Lindley who’s also a bit handy with a guitar.

Anyway………. Let’s hope the lads do the business and get us back on top.

Thought today would prove tricky for Hudds given Forest are now in the thick of a relegation scrap.

So as it stands we could go into the match a bit more at ease and Sheff Wed once again looking to be nudged out the play-off places by Fulham would have more pressure on them.

BBC again, we win today, we can also seal promotion, but the bbc hate us too.

Elsewhere, Huddersfield are losing 1-0 at Nottingham Forest, a result which means Brighton could seal promotion to the Premier League as early as Good Friday.

You’ve been inducted into the BoF’s club.

What’s a BoF you may ask? A Boring Owld Fart who’s enjoyed good music….. and possibly the things that went with it in those heady days of yore.
