Newcastle Could Get Injury Boost For Leeds Game

After our poor performance on Saturday at Hillsborough the major question will be if any of our injured players are fit to come back into the side against Leeds United on Friday afternoon.

Players who could possibly return include Isaac Hayden, Jack Colback, Ciaran Clark and DeAndre Yedlin and certainly if we can get Isaac back in defensive midfield that would help balance the side since we always seem to play better when Hayden plays.

DeAndre Yedlin – could return on Friday?

Yedlin has also been a good player for us this season and he returned to training last Friday and that gives him a week to get back to full fitness.

But it has to be doubtful that Rafa would start Yedlin against Leeds, but he could make the bench.

DeAndre has missed the last six games since being injured in the great 3-1 win at Huddersfield on 4th March.

Rafa said he was back in training last Friday, but he will not risk him by bringing him back too early.

This is the latest injury update Rafa has given:

“The injuries are more or less the same. Yedlin has trained today, Rolando Aarons has trained, but we don’t want to risk them until they are fully fit.”

None of the players out are seriously injured and we wonder if top defender Ciaran Clark can make a return on Friday?

We certainly missed Clark’s poise at the back at Hillsborough.

American International Yedlin has been an excellent signing for us for just £5M from Tottenham Hotspur last summer and he’s made 28 appearances for us with one goal.

We really hope some of our injured players can return on Friday.

What do you think?

Forgive me if this has been covered…. what’s the news on Gayle? Is he injured and if so for how long?

Anybody heard what happened to Hanley – he wasn’t even on the bench. I just wondered if he had an injury or had a strop when he was dropped last Wednesday?

Simple question which you never ever seem to answer. Why have we been top of the league virtually all season, are top scorers and almost the least goals conceded? That would suggest the manager is doing something right at both ends of the pitch would it not?

Huddersfield score very few goals compared to us. The vitriol you generate to Rafa is very unbalanced to say the least. It’s almost personal as the stats simply don’t back you up and never have.

It’s funny how you had much more sympathy for a serial loser like Pardew and defended him endlessly, but won’t recognise Rafa’s achievements on any level. Again it seems personal.

You’re possibly not quite as bad as inadequates and mentally deficient types like TOF and kimbo who racially abuse Rafa as a fat Spanish waiter, but you don’t do yourself any favours.

You say Rafa has peaked years ago. Give yer head a shake man. He’s 56 ffs, not 90.

Not looked at comments since match.
Mbemba makes our defence very shaky and in the last 2 games has made a number of critical errors, just like he did last season and personally, hope we sell him and get an upgrade, preferably McGuire or similar.
Guess Bannen not seeing red was the expected ref blooper for this match? Even Captain Cockroach – Micky Gray – said it was a certain red.

SuperShearer @1- According to nufc.com it is a hamstring problem in his other leg! Nothing official but it doesn’t sound good 🙁

Its his hamstring but on the other leg to his previous problems.

Not good news for Gayle or the squad.

    As reported in the chronicle.

We always seem to be on the wrong end of decisions from the Ref.
Just a thought. Is Rafa too much of a Gentleman as far as Refs go.
Can you imagine SAF if he had been on the wrong end of some of them.
He gave Refs no end of stick. It can’t change a decision, but it does put pressure on the next and subsequent Refs.
The message is, if you mess up we will make a big issue of it.
Man U got the better of decisions, particularly at home, for years.

The tackle on Ritchie looked a straight red to me.

He also seemed to struggle after and i hope he’s not hurt.

If we lose him and Dwight its a nightmare tbh.

Still going to win the league mind.

The thing with Clark is this. He does his job, but is always there to cover for others.
If Lascelles goes for a header he anticipates where the ball might go in a worse case senario and covers it.
That’s what the best defenders do.
It’s what we did not have last season pre Rafa.
    The key word is anticipation.

    I also believe we will.

QPR had far more shots/chances than Brighton. Are Brighton not just doing the same as us? Hughton will not give a flying about playing good football, at this stage and will want to win the league, but would happily take second. I, too, think we’ll still finish top. Maybe GD?

What we are about to achieve should not be underestimated,

Going back up with a half decent squad and our broken club on the mend.

Somehow I don’t think the mackems will be able to copy us but I am willing to chip a few quid in for a flag with moyes on it.

I doubt they will be singing for his job …

We have the best starting xi and the best squad in the league, pre season heavy favourites, the envy of all managers in this league in terms of what we have at our disposal.

Probably answers why we were top for most of the season, top scorers and almost the least amount of goals conceded.

If Rafa can get us promoted with Dummett, Gouffran, Perez, Diame, Lascelles, In the team regularly, he must be a genius because they are very poor!
When you see other teams they have better players but they are not top of the league! They don’t have Rafa! The only players to have any chance of succeeding in the PL are Shelvey, Ritchie, Clarke, Yedlin, Hayden, Gayle, Colback and our Goalies! Get your check book out Mike!

Is Steve Bruce a genius? He got hull promoted with Diame in the team!!

Rafa must clearly rate laschelles he gave him the captaincy.

Apart from knockaert I can’t think of many players that would improve our squad when comparing it to rival squads in the PL. Who squad would bloggers prefer ours or any other team in the championship?

Has Diame had one good game for us? Hull had a much stronger squad than us even though they got promoted through the playoffs and Diame scored the winning goal but he has been poor for us.
Do you really see the players I mentioned even surviving in the prem?
The only reason we are going up is because of Rafa and he wanted to strengthen in January! If he had been allowed we would already be promoted !

I agree Dummett needs a rest; he is like a rabbit in the headlights every time he receives the ball and can’t wait to offload it which opponents play on and we usually hit the long ball, which with Gayle up front is a waste of time! So frustrated!

    moonraker –

Your speculation about what may have happened if Rafa
had strengthened in January is no more that mischievous
    speculation.

IMO any strengthening would have been to bed in new signings
to be more ready for the PL. They would NOT have helped
    so much this season.

As for your comments on Dummy – he has his good points –
    and his weak points.

He knows what he is and what he can and cannot do.
As I see it, he forms a 3-man back line when Anita
    or Yedlin bomb forward.

Can’t have both FBs bombing forward.
Have you ever thought of that?

I repeat I reckon if we had strengthened the midfield we would be promoted by now as we are woefully weak in that area.
Dummett is a solid defender but he has cost us st least 3 goals by trying to make a clearance with his right foot.
There is no point in passing along the back line to him when the opposition knows it’s going back where it came from and there aren’t enough in midfield coming for a pass. Rafa is a genius to have us where we are!

    I’d go 352 against leeds.

Mbemba would make a better right back than centre back in my humble opinion.

Play this line up as aarons and yedlin won’t be risked.

    Darlow
    Mbemba lascelles clark
    Ritchie shelvey hayden diame atsu
    Gouffran Murphy

    Go all out.
