Our Man Of The Match Makes A Big Return To Form

Jonjo Shelvey scored his 5th Championship goal of the season on Saturday at Hillsborough, but it was too late to get anything out the game and we went down 2-1 against Sheffield Wednesday – out 9th defeat of the season.

And the truth is we didn’t deserve to get anything from a display that was one of the worst the side had put in away from home this season.

Newcastle have dropped 10 points in our last six games with two defeats and two draws and it’s not the form you want to go out of the Championship with – always assuming we get promoted – but it’s looking very likely now even with  the poor show on Saturday.

Jonjo Shelvey scores a late goal on Saturday

Jonjo had a very good game and just before half time he hit the cross bar from the half-way line but the sad part is he was one of only a few players who was in any kind of form at Sheffield.

Jonjo is an excellent player and when we were without him over the Christmas period we looked only half the side with him in the team.

Karl Darlow was in good form and made some good saves for us and he is continuing to have an excellent season in the Newcastle goal keeping Rob Elliot on the sidelines.

And now we are without Dwight Gayle who is out  injured again and we have looked poor up front with Dwight out injured.

Assuming we do get promoted, Rafa will see the deficiencies in the current squad and want to go all out this summer to significantly strengthen the side for the Premier League next season.

It was great to see Jonjo in such good form on Saturday – let’s hope he can maintain that form over the final five games of the season and we can go out on a high.

I would have loved it if Shelveys shot from the own half had come off, would have been goal of the season. Keeper was very lucky to get away with that one.

I thought he was having a nightmare game until he hit the bar, then he improved massively.

Before he hit the bar he looked like he had hit the bar!!!
