Shearer On Newcastle Draw – Ouch – That Was Painful

Alan Shearer put out an appropriate tweet after Newcastle’s draw last night, which roughly translated means it was extremely painful when Chris Woods equalized 5 minutes into stoppage time.

Alan Shearer – that was extremely painful – ouch

We know what he means.

On the last post, yeah it just sums up this league, it’s hard and very competitive a lot of people on here don’t appreciate that and expect us to win every game 3-0

Well, what a belting game, if not the result we wanted. Possibly our best overall performance at home this season, just a shame we didn’t take another of the many chances we created. Great entertainment though. Strange how those who weren’t happy with winning ugly, are still not happy with drawing playing lovely football. That kinda exposes them somewhat imo. My conclusion is they expect us to win every game and will bore us with their whining when we don’t. On another day we would’ve run up a rugby score, but that’s football. Despite the result I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Was disappointed at the end, but on reflection it’s fair to say it was a great game. In this league though, give me winning ugly every time. All that matters is promotion and I still say we’ll get there. Two more wins will see us through I reckon, because I can’t see the others winning every game now. Huddersfield were lucky and really shouldn’t have won yesterday. They’ll slip up before the end. Reading are just as likely to lose as win also. Nice to see the crowd doing our bit as well. Clearly that support helped last night. Need to repeat it twice more. All in all a disappointing result, but one that highlights how important a win is, even if it is ugly.

4 games left. Come on guys get behind the lads and roar them over the line. Last night was soul destroying, and from the look of the players they looked pissed so this will hopefully make them more determined to not let’s this happen in the last 4 game!

    HOWAY THE LADS!

    WE ARE UNITED!

James, I don’t think it helps Ando on BBC Newcastle continually telling everyone it’s a poor league. For those who don’t go to the games, constantly hearing him gives a wrong impression. It’s not as skillful as the PL obviously, but it certainly isn’t poor. Even more so at home, where it’s the closest to Wembley most of them will get. It’ s a very difficult league imo because everyone wants to beat us – including the refs! 🙂

I see Barnsley is sold out already, so Preston is the last chance for those wanting to see us. I didn’t even realise Barnsley tickets had gone on sale yet! I imagine Preston will sell out soon as well so if you ain’t got a ticket, time to get motivated.

Exactly, that’s often my point, we are a good championship side and most think we’re going to wup every team we play. But it’s very competitive league and any team can win on the day.
I was very pleased with our efforts last night, we need to keep it up not just turn up.

We need to take this anger we have from yesterday’s game and apply it to our performance on the pitch. Come on lads let’s get at em. This league is very physical and very unpredictable.

    IN RAFA WE TRUST!

    The harsh reality.

We always make it hard on ourselves or should I say Ashley has by not investing sufficiently. Yes he spent but we needed to push on in January and he didn’t.

IF we go up most oc our squad is not good enough for the premier league. I’d use most of it as squad players. Even our better players are too slow or not talented enough.

Richie, Yedlin, shelvey are the only 4 players I feel are 100% good enough.

Darlow, Lascelles, clark, gayle, hayden,Mbemba, Dummett possibly anita fit the next tier of players who I’d prefer to to be used sparingly…such is the gulf in quality between he leagues. . It also shows quite how far we have to go to reach a competitive premier league squad or xi.

The rest are just not good enough. We need a vast overhaul and investment to turn it around. We severely lack pace, creativity and quality.

    I’d off load perez, mitro, atsu,Gouffran,Hanley, anita,Ameobi, colback…

We need 2 strikers 100%, another playmaker, another defensive midfielder, 2 centre backs, a keeper and a left winger minimum…. we can build on that if they are top quality. I’d look for creativity abroad and buy solid defenders from within the leagues.

Last night was down to not taking our chances again .
To the ref missing a blatant penalty.
Colback being allowed to play in black and white. His one contribution was being too slow and having to foul as per usual. Not playing to the final whistle again.
Atsu not diame should have come on or even Murphy.

I get the impression Rafa is bewildered with alot of the refereeing and decisions made in the championship.

Certainly alot of decisions gone against us.

One AS. Nobody has ever said this squad will be good enough though. We all know that. And next season we’ll buy half of what we need. It’ll be the following season before we’ll be challenging for a trophy. Rafa assembled this squad with one aim in mind – promotion. Nothing else. I don’t think any serious fan believes this squad is good enough for the PL. I don’t think I’ve even heard anybody suggest it either. Next season Rafa will start assembling a squad to challenge for a trophy, but it won’t be done all at once. We need to be patient because relegation set us back a season from the original plan. When you look at players like Sanchez demanding 400k a week, you have to realise how difficult it will be next season. We’ll bring in five, maybe, first team players and six or seven the following season. Current first teamers will be squad players and squad players will be gone. That’s why he’s been investing in quality youth players, because we can’t compete with the moneybags chairmen of other clubs. We need to be realistic. We’re starting from scratch virtually and it’ll be a long hard slog. If so called fans can’t enjoy this season, they’re in for a rough ride. This is Rafa’s project and he’ll be methodical and ruthless in achieving his aims. It’s a case of building from the bottom up and it won’t be easy. We need to trust him and get behind him, not question everything he does. He knows exactly what he’s doing and needs us backing him. Tough times ahead, but hopefully it will be worth it in the long run. There’s no quick fix to years of decay.

I couldn’t agree more and I was proud of that performance last night.
Inexperience in defence cost us in the end but it really should’ve been all over by 75 mins.
However as we’ve had Collocini and Williamson for years this is a step forward.

Toon kk, he’s not the only one. It’s almost as if nobody wants us to go up. Maybe because we’re such an attraction for the Championship, who knows? 🙂 There has been some unfathomable decisions that help our rivals or go against us. I don’t buy into the conspiracy theory myself, but you can see why some do. Forest was bizarre. Burton unreal and the amount of dodgy penalties Huddersfield and Brighton have had, compared to our pitiful few, does make you raise an eyebrow. Yet we’re still there. Wonder what else they have up their sleeve for us as time runs out? Allowing Preston to play with twelve men? Giving Barnsley a head start? Letting sheep invade the pitch at Cardiff? 🙂 We’ll still go up though, despite their best efforts!

We’ve had some horrendous decisions all season. The penalty against us for a minor shirt pull earlier in the season, a penalty awarded last week then inexplicably cancelled and last night a stonewall penalty not given. These refs have a difficult job but surely 4 of them can get more right than they do!

When you think about it relying on collo, Williamson and Saylor etc had only had one outcome. Along with MA and his regime.
We’ve had to put up with alot of sh.t before Rafa came along.
