Murphy, Yedlin, Hanley And Atsu All Start At Ipswich

Rafa Benitez has just named his team for the game at Portman Road today against Ipswich Town where we really need to get back to our winning ways having only won two game games out of the last seven played and a measly 9 points which could possibly cost us the Championship title.

And Rafa has made some changes to the starting line-up with DeAndre Yedlin, Grant Hanley and Christian Atsu all starting.

And as expected former Ipswich striker Daryl Murphy starts up front for us.

We need all 3 points today, however we can get them – the result is everything.

Howay The Lads!!

Three in four Newcastle fans think we can win this game today.

Happy with that team Atsu and Murphy start so really pleased. Yedlin will offer plenty of pace although I thought Anita had a great game against Leeds. Lazaar would never start over dummet but with an attacking player in front of him at least we offer some form of threat from the left.

    HwA,
Comparing here on matchdays to inside the stadium. Firstly, how would you know and what have you been smoking, it’s the polar opposite, for starters there’s not a queen in sight slating the manager.

Happy with that team, apart from Clark and Gayle I’d say that’s the best he could put out. As both are injured, fair do’s.

Like the look of that team Yedlin and Atsu bring the much needed pace we are missing. Shame Mbemba was dropped Lascelles should have been.

Rafa is the best thing we have had since Sir Bobby and I hope he is with us for another 5-10 years!

However, I do think there needs to sometimes be a slight tweak with in-game philosophy. Rafa/the team does not seem to have the urge to kill teams off when we go 1-0 up especially at home.

It happened with QPR and again on Friday with leeds. 1-0 up – we should have been treating it like it was still 0-0 and making attacking subs (eg Atsu and Yedlin) from around 70mins.

Then if we are 2-0 up by all means go defensive. It seems as though the mindset is – once we go 1-0 up we need to protect it for however long is left which can be a long time. It is a risky, unrealistic and ultimately incorrect approach as it invites pressure.

I hope lessons are learned and we secure back to back wins next otherwise the last 2 games could be nail-biting indeed!!

Vantoon I think that’s garbage tbh. Most managers will try and see a game out 1-0 and make defensive minded subs to protect the lead. It’s easy to sit there and say he should have put this player and that player on but we would have lost more games if that was the tactic in my opinion.

Looks like the name of the game today is crosses in for Murphy to latch onto.
Will be interesting to see how many decent crosses are put in and whether Murphy is anywhere near them.
I am surprised Murphy and Atsu will start -hope it is the right selection for today.
Still go with my prediction of 4 -0 to the Toon.

Our chance to pile the pressure on Huddersfield today. Can see them losing to Derby, though they’re probably the 2nd most bizarrely inconsistent team behind Norwich.

Mister Tuff regardless of the quality Murphy will get on the end of more than mitro simply due to his movement and positioning. It’s not on par with Gayle but it’s streets ahead of the static mitro.

The team was playing well on Friday, why change just for the, sake of it? We never stopped attacking until the very end when they went into the corner. Subs aren’t mandatory, you use them if you need them. He clearly felt no reason until Hayden tired, which was understandable after a long lay off. We would’ve won but for individual errors ffs. Leaving Wood unmarked had NOTHING to do with Rafa and everything to do with slack marking. Geniuses with the benefit of hindsight. Every loss or draw has been down to Championship errors from Championship players. It happens.

    Strange team selection

Me dot keen on it –
dropped three out of the four best players Friday Night: Mbemba, Mitrovich and Anita.

Hope it works but not the team I would of picked – me would of sticked with Mbemba, Mitrovich and Anita. Maybe dropped Lascalles – becoming like Titus Bramble – mistake waiting to happen.

NUFC – I do have this perception – rightly or wrongly that Mitro has not had many decent crosses at all – for him to attack or actually ones that are accurate.

Good line up, I’m not a Diame fan, he tires very quickly, but happy with the rest.
I will go with 1-2 to us or maybe 0-1, we’re not a team with plenty of goals in it but I think we’ll nick it.

A poor cross looks like a good one if the striker positions himself in the correct place and looks to attack the ball rather than remaining static. When you have strikers with great movement you don’t see many poor balls into the box (only ones overhit or not getting past first man).
