Newcastle Can Now Be Promoted Next Monday

Newcastle lost 3-1 today at Ipswich and our players put in yet another shoddy performance and they seem to be choking and we are imploding as far as the performances and results go – especially the results.

Since we beat Brighton and Huddersfield away in successive games in late February and early March we have had a poor strong of 8 games where we have lost three and lost three for a measly points of 9 points – closer to relegation form than promotion form.

🙁

A frustrated Rafa Benitez at Portman Road

But it seems that the Terriers are continuing to throw their chances of catching us away after the were leading 1-0 after 9 minutes at derby County today until their former player Butterfield equalized with only two minutes to go.

That means on this round of games we are promotion points total has dropped by 2 and Huddersfield can get only 90 points so we have 5 points to get in our final three games of the season to make absolutely sure.

And the way things are with our much superior goal difference – which journalists don’t seem to take into account – if we beat Preston on Monday at St. James’ Park and Huddersfield fail to beat Fulham at Craven Cottage we will be promoted.

Even though Reading are now 3rd in the table on 79 points the most they can get is a total of 88 points and we have a better goal difference.

2Brighton463493
3Reading46485
4Sheffield Wednesday461581
5Huddersfield46-281
6Fulham462880

But this is really all very sad because it’s starting to take the joy away from promotion – Brighton are promoted and Chris Hughton’s side are now 7 points ahead of us and will go up as Champions.

Congratulations to Brighton and Chris – they deserve it – and it’s Chris’ second Championship trophy.

We are limping across the finish line and these last 8 games we have looked a very ordinary side.

But we will still take automatic promotion!!

That was the only goal this season – to get back up however we could manage it – but it’s been really really tough especially since early March.

Comments welcome.

Im really hoping this season will really benefit all our players, including the ones who have been poor such as Lascelles, (and obviously ashley and co who must have had their hearts in their mouths today with all the money pumped in) all these ups and downs, i hope it really gives them experience and builds and strengthens their character and personality, would be such a shame for us to just repeat next season what we’ve been doing in the premier league the last 5 years, and just repeat the same mistakes, all this hard work for nothing

Agree, signing players in January was pointless unless if they were the right players. McCarthy definitely wasn’t the right players and I’m glad we didn’t sign him as that would mean we would have less to spend on actual quality when promoted.

But that’s the things with transfers, some work and some don’t. I would actually class Hanley as a positive regardless of him not playing a lot. When he has been given a game he’s done a job for us, not his fault Clark and lascelles formed a good partnership.

Would actually have liked to see Lazaar get games on the left wing, good on the ball and has a very good cross on him.

Replied to you James in last thread

I don’t think lascelles has had a bad year, he’s in a bad run of form yes but that doesn’t hide the fact he’s had some great games for us this year and been a rock at times. He’s young and that’s one thing you get with youngsters, inconsistency. He played well for us in his run last year which for me shows he can handle the premier league. Got no worries about him next year, form is temporary. He’s had to adjust to being captain too which is difficult as it is especially for younger players.

And I would personally keep dummett, he only looked out of his depth in attacking sense. He can do a job defensively in the premier league but certainly not as first choice. He’s good back up as he can cover cb too and he doesn’t seem the type to kick up a fuss because he’s not playing.

I think Fulham will get something at Huddersfield on Saturday. Reading have 3 winnable games. 4 points should be enough. I will hate it if we have to win our last game. I cannot bare the tension.

We can not relie on other teams to get us promoted but i hope we do go up so we can get rid of the dead wood and build a winning team of professionals who want to play for this great club of ours.

The only good thing about the run in is that Huddersfield seem to have bottled it too, we would be looking at playoffs otherwise and given how poor we’ve looked in the last few games there is no guarantee we would even make the play off final

We desperately need a win out of the next game, Ipswich had nothing to play for today and won every battle on the pitch – a sad indictment of our players

I’m not even going to individually rate the players today, probably all a 3

Watching us playing, I don’t know how we got so many points, the wheels have well and truly come off.
Hopefully we’ll scrape over the line.
We’re poor. Our players aren’t ready for premier league football.

We should sing that next week instead of Blaydon Races.

Udders play Fulham on the Saturday. Fulham are bang in it for a play off place.
We don’t play until Monday night.
Would love it just love it if we can go for promotion at that game.

would you strip lascelles of captaincy??

I certainly wouldn’t, as i said i hope this has been the making and just another stage in his development, i genuinely do think we have a future england international on our hands with him, same with shelvey and hayden

    If we go up defo
Lascelles is no way a premier league player never mind captain
His positional play is very average ,just look how many mistakes he has made leading to goals where he has got on the wrong side ,in fact without Clarke our central defence has been doooodgy
We need a couple of proper centre backs to play with clarke, shawcrossand jansen for starters

Why is everyone so negative? The Leeds game forced Rafa into changes and we were affected by the work put into it! Leeds lost at home as well!
Relax we’re going up and the Barnsley game will be a huge celebration as we’ll already be up !

McCarthy is a player we could use, yes he had a bit of an injury, but most of to-days managers use injured players continually, not giving them time to heal adequately, much like Benitez and Gayle.

As we wobble to-wards the seasons end, it becomes more obvious that Ashley’s refusal to provide funds to bring in the players to guarantee promotion, is just further evidence of his ignorance of the game, that or someone whispering in his ear (Carr ?)

If for some reason we don’t make it back to the PL, then it will be the end of Benitez at the club, meaning the last chance for Ashley to enjoy a club that could if properly managed, be a top ten contender, if we fail to be promoted it could signal that NUFC are no more than an elevator club, doomed by it’s owner through a lack of will to invest in the club.

There was a time when NUFC were rated in the worlds top twenty clubs, now where do we stand ?

Who or what to blame, obviously Ashley’s failure to invest in top rated upper management and players, always looking for a cheap alternative, just look at who we have had as managers, with what I believe is an undeclared DOF in Carr, face it folks he doesn’t confide in either Chump’ly or Benitez, so who’s left?
