Newcastle Have Big Competition For Talented Transfer Target

There’s news that if Swansea playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson is indeed a transfer target for Newcastle this summer we may face very strong competition from Everton.

The Sunday Express has reported the Toffees are willing to offer the Icelandic International £140K/week to join them this summer and it’s difficult to see if Newcastle would be willing to match that figure.

Gylfi is an excellent player and when it was reported that Newcastle were after him Newcastle fans were understandably delighted,  but the Chronicle has also said they don’t think he is a target.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – talented 27 year-old playmaker

Of course the summer is coming and we’ll see all kinds of transfer talk in the papers and especially on Sundays,  when stories are often made up to sell the newspapers.

It’s looking like Swansea could be relegated this season, but at the moment they are only a couple of points from safety behind 4th bottom Hull City.

But Sigurdsson has said he will be leaving the club this summer whatever happens, and that he will fight to save them from relegation and he’s doing exactly that.

So it looks like it’s an amicable thing between club and player.

Gylfi is an excellent player who could play for a much bigger and more famous club then the Swans – maybe even Newcastle United.

He did have a stint at Spurs but didn’t get enough playing time which is one reason he moved to south Wales.

One thing Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley will have to manage closely this summer is Newcastle’s wage bill.

They will likely be unwilling to pay out the big bucks in transfer fees and/or wages unless they are the right men.

We’ll see how the summer unfolds but it should be exciting.

What do you think?

Personal note – I am having some serious side effects from the chemotherapy treatment – I’ll put articles out when I am able to.
We’d all feel a lot better if the lads can win at Ipswich today.

From what I’ve seen quoted for players wages in the top teams I’d be surprised if we get any well known players, whats our top earner on £70K ?

Can’t see us going in for him with SDJ returning.

When SDJ signed for us if you asked who would you rather have most would’ve said SDJ with his leadership skills and CL pedigree. Very similar in style. SDJ will be given a final chance here I think, though can’t hang our hat on him, might strain his neck.

We might get a couple of games out of SDJ before he’s crocked for half the season .
He’s certainly a gamble to rely on.

    welsh,
In what way do you support us, you take the pi$$ out of our lack of success over the last sixty years, you constantly slate the most popular manager in years while bigging up the most unpopular. Do you buy your merchandise from the club shop, are you a member, how do you support us?

Like i said to who this morning, what’s it got to do with you, was only taking the piss because a certain clown was talking shite about swans, as for Rafa not just me that’s come out and said he’s got wrong in certain matches,

Sigurdsson if he leaves would need to go to a club that will guarantee him first team football, he struggled with Spurs and he will struggle with Everton.

Perez had a good game last time out against Ipswich. I would imagine he is nailed on as a starter.

Same line up as Leeds, only Atsu for Gouffran, would look good to me.

He’s 100% destined for bigger than what newcastle are the minute, but what a player young Youri Tielemans is going to be, would love to think we could get a young player of that ilk.

Nah the press are saying Chelsea and Man Utd to battle it out for him, unfortunately. Who knows, if Rafa had kept us up last year and we’d had a decent campaign in the prem this year, we could have been in with a shot. Ifs and buts.

The crowd at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road ground is to pay tribute to Sir Bobby Robson before the Championship match with Newcastle United.
Sir Bobby, who died in 2009, is a sporting hero in the North East where he was born, learned the game of football and managed Newcastle United as well as in Suffolk where he managed Ipswich.
Ipswich Town designated Monday as Sir Bobby Robson Day and it is the first time the two clubs have met in the Championship at Portman Road where his statue stands near the main entrance.
He was Ipswich Town manager from 1969 to 1982 before leaving to take over the role for England.
His football career ended at Newcastle United in 2004 after spells with clubs in Holland and Portugal.
Money raised at the Ipswich ground and at a fundraising dinner will go to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation which supports cancer treatment at hospitals in Newcastle.

A bizarre, he was back in training mate, so I’m taking a gamble. Too late to change it now. My phone pre empted me if I’m honest. 🙂 He’ll likely be on the bench at best but like I say, too late to change so you never know with Rafa! 🙂

Happy with that team Atsu and Murphy start so really pleased. Yedlin will offer plenty of pace although I thought Anita had a great game against Leeds. Lazaar would never start over dummet but with an attacking player in front of him at least we offer some form of threat from the left.

    Game on boys cmooooooon
