Classy Chris Hughton – Waiting For Newcastle

Some good tweets from George Caulkin this morning about a favorite of the Newcastle fans – Chris Hughton – who has been as modest as ever with Brighton’s promotion and a real gentleman as always.

Chris praised his players and of course said nothing about himself and what a terrific record he will have at Brighton this season and the Seagulls may get 31 wins and reach 101 points.

Chris says he’s waiting for Newcastle.

Yes – that’s a Chris Hughton smile – he’s ecstatic

If we can get promoted then the Brighton game at St. James’ Park next season will be a banner game for the Newcastle fans to welcome Chris back – with both clubs in the Premier League.

🙂

Here’s are some of George’s tweets.

Pleased to see Hoots getting another crack at the Prem. The man has earned it well, and if we had decent ownership would have been allowed the time to do so here. Hope Brighton survive next season (but I still want to take 6 points off them next year, assuming we get promoted!)

Well done, Chris Hughton, but I would put money on him being the first manager sacked, next season. No loyalty from clubs, these days.
Brighton will be relegated, along with Watford and the other team promoted through the play-offs!

Hoots has done a terrific job for them but you can’t help but feel if they are hovering around the relegation zone at Christmas the owners will panic and replace him regardless. Mind you with our owner we’re probably no better but hopefully we’ll be comfortable mid-table.

Never been sold on shawcross in all honesty and although he’s had a few back problems I think he’s played like 30 games this year in the league so not exactly a major worry in that sense. Just never been a fan and think he’s always been overrated. Either way, think he’ll join pulis at wba.

Shawcross as captain, mentor to the younger defenders. Sell Hanley. Buy new left-back and right-back to give competition to Dummett and Yedlin. Defence sorted!

Sell Diame and Colback. 1 creative and 1 defensive midfielder needed.
Bye, bye Gouffy, Haidara, Lazaar, Sammeobi, Atsu, Murph, Jesus, Sels/Krul.
    Need 2 wingers , 1 left starter, 1 back-up.
Keep Gayle, Mitro, Perez, need 1 top striker with pace .

8 needed! Only 3/4 definite starters + 4 squad players.
    Keep Anita

toontaff…Not sure such predictions can be made until we’ve seen each clubs summer transfers in and out.

Just read something on Brightons plans for the summer. They seem to be talking about loyalty and rewarding the squad that got them there, but recognise they’ll be playing at a higher level so a few key players will be introduced.

If they’re talking 2-3 players then I think you may be right and they’ll struggle. Mind, Hoots didn’t struggle last time he came up with us. He just didn’t have the control over the team that Ashley and Co wanted.

Really happy for Hughton. Top bloke.Hope Brighton do give him the chance to show what he can do and not freak out at the first sign of trouble.

If you keep Anita why would there be a need to buy a rb if we’ve got yedlin too. That would just block the path for sterry to come through. But yeah diame and colback need flogging and I don’t mean the selling kind!

If Fulham beat ‘Udders on Saturday, they will only be 2 points behind them!! Sheff Wed to beat Derby and Leeds to beat Burton. Forest v Reading?
    Reading 79 gd 2
‘udders 78 [game in hand] gd 5
    Sheff Wed 75 gd 14
    Fulham 73 gd 24
    Leeds 73 gd 15

Could be that ‘Udders may still not even end up in the play-offs!

Someone used to have a ‘thwacking’ stick!
Maybe pre-match or half-time entertainment could be a public thwacking for Diame and Colback? 👿

Anita has played right-back, left-back, right-wing, mid-field for us, so keeping him as a versatile squad player. Maybe big Vurn could be a back-up ‘keeper? 😀

‘Udders play Fulham (H), Wolves (A) and Birmingham (A), Cardiff (H) – if they win all 4 and we cannot get 5 points from our games, they deserve the second place.

I like dummett actually, would keep him as back up and competition for lb. could cover cb at times too. Does a defensive job and is trying to get better on the ball, he put in a couple crosses against Ipswich which were good and offered support to atsu numerous of times.

With Anita I would keep too, he’s a good utility player and every squad needs these. Plus it will allow yedlin and sterry to compete for rb position.

We’re light in cm, only have Hayden and Shelvey really so need a couple more plus we need a genuine number 10. Not Perez and need to sell de Jong.

De Jong has had a decent season in NL with PSV. I can see him being the regular number 10 under Rafa next year, assuming promotion.

De Jong is fit but obviously it’s just a matter of time. He’s played a few games this year and recently completed a 90 mins but it’s too much of a risk. I’d rather move him on as I think injuries have taken its toll on him.

Would loan longstaff and barlaser to championship clubs next year, sell de Jong and bring in someone like cairney if Fulham don’t get promoted.

The club has invested time & money into De Jong; it would be a waste to forego seeing what he could do playing for Benitez.
