There’s news today in the Mirror that Newcastle are interested in Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson.
It turns out the once capped England international will have one year left on his contract at Arsenal this summer and he finds first team games at Arsenal hard to come by so he really has no future with the Gunners.
Newcastle were first interested in Jenkinson three years ago in the summer of 2014, but nothing came of that interest.
Carl Jenkinson – Arsenal right-back
Carl has played only 5 times for the Arsenal first team this season and he will be looking to find another club this summer and Arsenal will be looking to sell him before he becomes a free agent next year.
Rafa has a good relationship with Arsene Wenger, so if he really wants Carl then the chances are good we can get him and he has decent Premier League experience.
He’s played 90 times in the Premier League during his career – 38 times for the Gunners and 52 times for the Hammers whilst on loan there over a couple of seasons starting in 2014.
If Carl is a real target it may not look good for Dutch International Vurnon Anita, although Rafa will want a big squad for the Premier League next term.
Carl usually plays right back but he can also play in central defense, although it’s certain that Rafa will be bringing in a specialist at that position and that could well be Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross, who would be exactly what we need.
Leadership and massive Premier League experience.
We have never thought Carl was a great player, but he’s certainly a solid right-back and if Rafa really wants him then he must see the potential that he can develop.
Carl started his career at Charlton Athletic and joined Arsenal in 20111.
The 25 year-old made 62 total appearances for Arsenal, 50 for the Hammers and 9 for Charlton Athletic.
Carl is a decent enough right back.
