Sky Pundit – Newcastle To Pull Fingers Out – Be Promoted Monday

We’ve given David Prutton a lot of stick because he seems to go with Brighton and Huddersfield this year with his predictions and he hasn’t been too good to us.

But he’s also been right recently and maybe he’s getting more accurate with his predictions.

He forecasts a win for Newcastle on Monday night and only a draw for the Terriers at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

If those results hold true then Newcastle will be promoted on Monday night.

Here’s what David has said about game at St. James’ Park against Preston North End:

“Huddersfield’s lapse at Derby has given Newcastle some breathing space but I see it giving them a kick up the backside to finish the job off.”

“Preston may have lost to Norwich, but they’ve impressed this season and it’ll be interesting to see whether they add to their squad next year and try to push for the play-offs.”

“Having said that though, I see Newcastle pulling their fingers out and potentially securing promotion.”

Prutton Predictions 2-1

As things stand now we need to gain 5 points on the Terriers for certain promotion before the end of the season – those come from the points we earn and/or the points Huddersfield drop.

If those results are accurate we get 3 points with the win and an extra 2 points because the Terriers only drew at Craven Cottage.

Therefore we will be promoted.

It’s that simple.

2Brighton463493
3Reading46485
4Sheffield Wednesday461581
5Huddersfield46-281
6Fulham462880

The other way of looking at it is if the Terriers only draw their fourth last game of the season on Saturday the maximum number of points they can earn is 88.

Newcastle can equal that with a win on Monday night and our current goal difference is 32 goals better than Huddersfield’s and they will then have have 3 games to play.

But we can almost guarantee on Monday night if the results hold then some journalist(s) will say Newcastle are almost there because we could still end up level on points with Huddersfield.

Has any club ever scored 33 goals or more in their last three league games?

That’s after scoring  only 54 goals in their previous 42 games.

We didn’t think so.

🙂

Sounds daft but i think how we do on monday will depend on how things go at Huddersfield….they win and we will be under pressure, tense and nervy….they lose and we could put on a show and give preston a potential good kickin….shame we cant just do that what ever the result but this season has proved we struggle.

Yeah I’ve been keeping track of it mate, I’ve no doubt missed 1 or 2, but I think they’re all there.

Yeah gonna do it from April 1st til September 1st, im imagining it to grow at a ridiculous rate from the moment we’re confirmed/denied promotion

Yeah I’ll carry on doing it,

Springy…I would imagine that they’ll be nervy either way. It’ll either be the pressure to keep up the current gap, or the pressure to capitalise on Huddersfield losing.

Based on the last few games and either added pressure, I expect it to be somewhat nervy, unless we can get an earlyish goal and push on from there.

Jail…I did think of you as I read Lew’s commitment to keeping 5 months of transfer news relating to NUFC.

Do you have any tips for him? Other than don’t do it 🙂
