Newcastle United got the job done tonight when they beat Preston North End 4-1 in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the venerable St. James’ Park.

Ayoze Perez got us off to a great start after 7 minutes with his 10th goal of the season but Hugill equalized 7 minutes later to silence the home crowd.

Christian Atsu relieved the pressure just before half time with his 4th Championship goal of the season to make it 2-1 at the half.

Ayoze Perez hit a brace tonight

Matt Ritchie then increased the lead when he scored from a penalty after 65 minutes – his 16th goal of the season.

That was after Gallagher had handled the ball on the goal line and he was subsequently sent off – so when Matt scored it looked all over but the shouting

Ayoze then got his second goal of the night after 67 minutes to wrap up what was in truth an easy win and a fine performance from our team.

That puts Ayoze on 11 goals for the season.

Tonight was all about the result – that’s all that mattered – we all knew that.

But to also and to turn in a good performance too – you’ve got to give it to Rafa and his players who are gaining valuable experience this season.

Heaven knows what the antics are after the game – although we are seeing some of them over here in the US.

It was a great win and a terrific season for us – one in which Rafa Benitez risked his stellar name in world football by staying with Newcastle United down below.

Now he can start building a team that can challenge the best in Europe – although that may take some time – but you never know.

Wonder if we can now announce out first signing tomorrow?
