Poll Results – Top Six Players Newcastle Fans Want This Summer

We listed as many transfer targets as we could in a poll of ours we issued yesterday and gave each reader 6 votes to vote which 6 players they want brought in this summer.

So we can see the top six players the fans want – but of course in reality they will have to fill the positions Rafa wants to strengthen this summer.

They are thought to be center-back, left-back, central midfield, winger and two strikers.

Fulham’s 26 year-old John Cairney – top choice

We could not think of too many strikers we have been linked with and think Rafa may surprise us all this summer with the strikers he signs.

But given the (too) many chances we missed this seasons that’s definitely a big area of improvement for the team.

But the fact we created so many chances is a good sign – that’s the hard part – putting the chances away is much easier.

The top player fans want is Fulham’s 26 year-old John Cairney who is supposed to be the number one target of Newcastle’s this summer – maybe that was an influence?

This lad can improve a lot under Rafa and he’s said to be ambitious to prove himself in the Premier League.

We are almost sure he’s been asked already if he would be interested in signing for us this summer and he would be a fantastic signing for just £10M

Second in the voting is Ryan Shawcross – so he’s the top center-back according to the fans – he would be a fabulous signing for us and add stability and experience at the back.

Then it’s a fight between Shawcross Lascelles and Clark as to who are the starting two in central defense next season?

Andros Townsend is the next in line and he will fill the winger position – surely this lad will return to Newcastle given the fans have forgiven him for leaving?

He can be great again under Rafa’s tutelage and while he seems happy enough at Crystal Palace lately – maybe that’s because he knows Newcastle will sign him this summer.

He’s a lucky lad if that happens – but Rafa wants him back – he’s made no secret of that – he rates Andros highly.

Next up is 16 year-old Ryan Sessegnon of Fulham who made the PFA Championship Team of the Season – but how much would he cost?

Probably far too much – but he’s the left-back fans want to challenge Paul Dummett next season – but we think some of the top six English clubs could make a move for him this summer.

We’ll see.

Maybe I am underestimating the draw of Newcastle United under the great Rafa Benitez?

That could be true.

Fifth in the voting is perhaps a world super-star of the future – Youri Tielemans of Anderlecht – a fabulous young creative midfielder and what a player this lad already is –  at just 19 years old.

Again – as with Sessegnon – how much would this lad cost – maybe too much for Newcastle?

If we do sign this lad I’d have to seriously watch my blood pressure.

🙂

And the sixth player on the list is center-back Michael Keane of Burnley – the former young Manchester United center-back.

He’s proved this season at Burnley that’s he’s a Premier League class center-back and he’s just 24 years-old and still learning.

Maybe Shawcross and Keane would come at about the same price – and it could depend on the best deal Newcastle can get for each player as to who arrives.

We’ll see.

It will be interesting to see the caliber of players Rafa Benitez brings in this summer – we hope he shocks us all by the class he can attract.

That would be great!

🙂

Here are the results.

    John Cairney Ed? Lol.

Hibbit… He’s dropped him before. I guess we’ll see when the line up is announced.

ChicoUsa from previous thread: One of the funniest things on the internet was True Geordie the day after Rafa signed for us. Hysterical and summed up how most of us feel just having him in charge. Will be an even better feeling tonight if we win!

    Toon kk from previous.
Last times we played them at home we took them apart 6-0 and it could have
    been 10.
Gayle didn’t play that night either as I recall.
so predictions are perhaps not that crazy?

We played their reserves though. When we played them again it was a much closer game.

Also that list from Ed is shite. Surely Rafa can get better players than from Fulham.

As kyo says was that score not against there reserves? We’ve really struggled of late the only game we’ve played well lately was against Leeds and then we only managed one goal.
I’m just being realistic would love to see a 4-0 score result. We have no cutting edge without a fit Gayle. Mitrovic is great for holding up the ball but struggles to score.
As long as we win I’ll be over the moon.

I’ve been watching the games on re-run and Lasalles, Colbeck, Gouffron, and Diame are ready to be shipped out account have reached their peak and it is not Prem class. Clark, Hanley and Murph have hit expiration date.

Dummitt is one of the best attacking players as once he is across midfield, his pass rate is sensational. Shelvey has grown, but do not know if he can calm the attackers so they are not in panic mode about getting off a shot. NUFC miss that style from someone like Cabaye did

Need a high class center back so M’Bemba can push out when he gets the ball. He is a defense disrupter.

It will be interesting to see if Krull comes back and steps right into the job.

Finding someone to play alongside Shelvey and finding a premiership No 10 and a premiership quality striker will be the hardest shoes to fill.

Shelvey is so good at moving the ball quickly up the park (which is an absolute must in the modern game) but finding a Kantesque player to shore up stuff behind him and finding a beardsleyesque No 10 and good premiership striker has got a 100 million tag on the spend…(which is not going to happen) so nurturing some young blood will be essential to balance the books therefore trying to attract some of the best players from this years championship is how Rafa will reduce the spend.

    IMO

Still have to score no matter who you against.
They have injuries suspensions so it won’t be their first 11 this time either.
As you say it was Leeds the last time we played well. Or put another way our last home game.
With a bit more luck Leeds would have been dispatched 3 or 4 nil.
You can feel it on here and in the city . The pressure has gone . The players will feel that also.
I just think they will turn up tonight and have far too much for Preston.
    Optimistic yes. Crazy no.

Ed, we should not talk about transfers further as job still hasn’t done officially yet.
The last time I predicted that, the team went downhill and I almost gave up on the club.
Luck was on our side and here we are for a second chance.
Preston had a good season and should not be underestimated. We must score in the opening 25 to 30 mins and take matters in control without getting nervous.Until I hear official confirmation ,I will continue holding my breath.

5 – 1 rout to the Toon – couple of early goals to calm the nerves.
However, a fantastic game would be drawing into the last ten minutes, Mitro comes on and scores a blockbuster – with his exuberant goal celebration -culminating in a dash to halfway – grabbing Rafa and lifting him up in the air.
Not good for the nerves but it would be tremendous.

Stephen harper was on ssn earlier, saying what we already know, that we’ll need to spend around 100mil to be able to compete in the premier league, there’s only a few players worth hanging onto the rest we’re doing a job in the championship.
Thing is will Mash stump up the cash??

One hour 20 minutes before KO in the most crucial game of the season seems a strange time for your usual whining negativity .

Did you happen to cone across “unrealistic” pipe dream targets in your search, or is that the complete list of everyone we’ve been linked to up to now?

I know that we’ve been linked to Lacazette who turned us down due to our absence from Champions League, so no chance in nabbing him now. But are there any others put there of his kind that we’ve been linked to? Don’t really care if it’s tabloid talk. Until Rafa admits to it himself, it’s all tabloid talk, but I’d still be interested
