We are now getting pundits coming out of the woodwork paying some attention to Newcastle United, now that we will be back in the land of living next season in the Premier League.
So we are seemingly now important enough again for pundits to talk about us and of course they will come out and tell Rafa Benitez exactly who he would buy this summer.
And Rafa will take absolutely no notice of them.
Daniel Sturridge – 27 year-old Liverpool striker
We have finally returned from the football wilderness of the Championship and on Tuesday morning I was truly shocked that we were headline news in the national sports pages – really.
But that’s just one of the terrible things that happens when you are relegated – but the nightmare is finally over and we are a real football club again – and a good football club too!
It’s simply a terrific and uplifting feeling that Rafa and the lads got the job done on Monday night and we can now talk about this summer and the players Rafa could sign.
Former Sunderland player Mick Gray is now a pundit for talkSPORT and he has come out with some advice for Newcastle for the summer transfer window.
This is what Mick has said on talkSPORT:
“Newcastle would snap your hands off right now for somebody like Daniel Sturridge.”
“He is a goalscorer who is going to get you 15, 20 goals a season.”
“They might only get 25 to 30 games out of him at a push but those 15, 20 goals will keep you in the Premier League for another season.”
“They should absolutely go and get him.”
But that’s the big problem with Sturridge – nobody doubts he has great ability and can score the goals.
But you get maybe half a season out of him and this season he has made only five starts for Liverpool in the Premier League.
We’re sure he will be available this summer, but how much will his transfer fee be?
Very high we think.
Sturridge will not play again this season with his latest injury being a hip injury.
Rafa knows who he wants to sign and why he wants to sign them – and if he really wants Daniel Sturridge he will know how to make him effective at Newcastle.
And maybe he will have had the Newcastle medics do some research work on all the injuries Daniel has picked up over the last few seasons.
Rafa is nothing if not thorough.
