Massive Majority Want This Player Signed In Summer

We watched the game at Cardiff again last night and we were so much the better team it was an easy win and two simply tremendous goals from Christian Atsu and Isaac Hayden – two excellent technical players for Newcastle – showed the difference in class between the two sides.

And Christian looked at home on the wing on Friday night and we noticed as soon as he lost the ball he was tracking back and trying to get the ball back.

With this lad’s obvious class and skill, surely he would be an asset to us next season?

Christian Atsu – definitely worth £6.5M

Yes – he can be a little inconsistent, but surely Rafa can continue to make him into a better player if he stays –  he’s still a work in progress.

Rafa has said before he is pleased with the player, but of course he will not make any decisions until he looks at the squad from the big picture view and decides who will be staying this summer.

This is what Rafa said about Christian after the game in south Wales:

“We know that he’s a good player. We have to decide. I’m really pleased with him.”

“We have to see where we are in terms of the squad and all these things.”

The Ghanaian international has scored five Championship goals and has three assists in 34 appearances for Newcastle this season.

And he’s scored a goal in each of the last two games, so we hope he can get another goal against Barnsley on Sunday.

He just loves it at Newcastle on his loan deal from Chelsea and he says it’s an honor for him to play in the famous black and white stripes of Newcastle United.

And Christian has also said that Rafa has played a big part in his life this season too – so at the moment he is a happy man.

It would be great for Christian and for our fans too if he gets a permanent contract at Newcastle

He’s fully deserved it and has been a good classy player for us this season – remember that great first goal at Rotherham he scored last year!

The fans agree with that sentiment and a massive majority want Rafa to sign him this summer.

Should Benitez Sign Christian Atsu Permanently

  • Yes (83%, 2,502 Votes)
  • No (17%, 496 Votes)

Total Voters: 2,998

He would cost around £6.5M which is very reasonable for a player of his class and Rafa can make him even better next season.

Sign him up Mr. Benitez – please.

If it’s true what you say about Rafa and British players – then I think he would be better served looking at the better players of the relegated teams rather than the classier players in the Championship who may or may not make it.

Thats why I mentioned lower half premiership team players such as Defoe at Sunderland, Gray at Leicester, Shawcross at Stoke and Wilson at Bournemouth.

Atsu at 6 million hs worth a shot and Taylor at Leeds is well rated and free.

People talk about Cairney but he is untried at premiership level and I yhink Fulham will win tge play offs anyway.

Others to consider would be Delph at City and Cgambers/Jenkinson at Arsenal who seem peripheral there as well as McGuire at Hull if they go down.

Davide santon is a decent buy …he knows the epl plus he can play literally every position in the back… Napolis kulibali would be a gold buy too ….rafa needs at least 70 mill to make us a top 10 team next year …

Bournemouth spent the best part of 15 milloon pounds on Jordan Ibe last summer and he gas been given few opportunitues. I gave been impressed enough with Atsu, especually at only 6 million quid

One thing I’m sure of: if Rafa doesn’t intend to buy Atsu it will only be because he believes he can get someone even better. I think I’ll leave it to him to decide.

Imo we need an experienced, vocal and commanding CB along with a quality LB to add to the defence, Dummet can be a decent squad back up member. CB will be very interesting as we already have four and one will have to go, I honestly don’t think it will be Hanley with four years of his deal remaining and who would be happy to sit on the bench waiting for an opportunity, expect a few surprises. Davide Santon, part of a succession of the worst PL defences over a five year period in the leagues history.

I’ve been surprised with Ibe at Bournemouth. I genuinely thought they were getting a good signing but he’s been a huge disappointment.

Someone said if Hull go down maguire would be a good signing. I can’t see Hull going down but still think we could get Maguire anyway, plus Robertson.

Not sure if the club are looking at a right back but Naughton at Swansea seems to be an ever present. Haven’t seen him play much but definitely has the premiership experience.

Sigurdson apparently has been priced at £35 m so I think that counts is out.

Although Rafa’s mantra this season has predictably been ‘the next game is the most important’ and ‘promotion is the only target’ he appears to be a thoroughly consummate professional. Who, no doubt, will have planned a strategy for next season in the EPL, possibly before this current season started.

Rafa had no experience of Championship football before last August, but he is a quick learner, especially after losing the first two games.
He started with a game plan and a 4231 line-up, and stuck with it for 45 games, guessing Sunday’s line-up is a no brainer.

Rafa came with a reputation of being a ruthless coach/manager, but he has been surprisingly very trusting and supportive to a core of players. Two spring to mind, he stuck with a relatively young goalkeeper, Sels, when many critics wanted him replaced. He, Rafa, chose Lascelles as captain, and the young man kept the armband throughout the season, and again the critics thought otherwise.

In August we start the new season as a Premiership team, the current first team and usually the bench have all played in the Premiership. Therefore they are all by definition ‘Premiership’ players. Whether many of them will meet Rafa’s criteria of ‘Premiership’ players remains to be seen.

The lists of potential signings on the fan’s wish lists is entertaining and generates comment and debate, but Rafa has so far stayed stumn, but he will have a plan, that is for certain.

For the first time, possibly since Nolan & Co won promotion eight years ago, we have a happy and United dressing room, and long may it last. In retrospect, that lack of transfer activity in January, may have been a blessing in disguise. Remember Keegan’s transfer tinkering when leading the league by eleven points.

For what it’s worth, I think the biggest weaknesses with the current squad is the absence to a strong, vocal, experienced Captain. Lascelles is a big improvement on recent captains, which wouldn’t be difficult, I’m looking at you senor Collocini. What we need is a ‘John Terry’, with out the racialist, homophobic, yob mentality, and no criminal relatives, and a healthy dose of Jonathan Woodgate DNA wouldn’t go amiss.

The team line up that has produced promotion will have to change for the new season, the top teams are all now playing with variations of three at the back. Speed and a high pressing game are essential. Whatever money we spend on transfers, the biggest chunk should be splashed on the very, very best number 10 we can persuade to join the Rafalution.

If Rafa is able to recruit two or even three first class players, that will be a wonderful investment.

    Roll on Sunday, can’t wait…

I would like to see Sesegnon brought in. He is still young but has tremendous potential. I am sure Rafa can mould him into a great player.

It was mentioned in an earlier post about the fact that Adam Armstrong may not make it at NUFC, i personally think this kid is a super talent and under the guidance of benitez he could turn out pretty special, now, yea hes been on loan and did ok this season at Barnsley but did not pull any trees up, thing is hes still only 20 i think he still has masses of time imo, look at Harry Kane at Spurs he got loaned out to norwich, leicester, orient, and millwall, and he says he did not start to mature until he was playing at millwall, he scored half a dozen goals for them so nothing special at the time, then he goes back to Spurs scores 3 in 10 in his first season back 2013/2014, then 21 goals the following season and the rest is history, hes a top top player, so it can happen, he did not start scoring until he was 21 by all accounts, i hope he thrives at the toon young Armstrong in the coming months, yes, i would love to keep the lad at NUFC.
