This 22 Year-old Croatian Is Rafa Top Target This Summer

The Mail is reporting that Newcastle are interested in signing Jozo Simunovic from Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Newcastle have been interested in this player all season long with reports Rafa that rates the player and would like him at Newcastle in the Premier League next season

Other Premier League teams said to be interested in the player include West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace and there are teams on the continent also interested in him, including Torino.

22 year-old Jozo Simunovic of Celtic

This is the second season for Simunovic at Celtic after he signed on from Dynamo Zagreb for around £3M in the summer of 2015.

He has so far played 29 times for Celtic this season with a single goal and he has played for  Croatia at all the youth levels including 9 times for the U21s.

In the last two season the 6ft 3ins defender has played 46 times for Celtic with two goals and two assists.

But Brendan Rodgers doesn’t want to let his Croatian center-back leave the club this summer, as he tries to build a side that can compete more successfully in Europe next season.

Jozo has shown very good form for Celtic all season long which is why a number of Premier League clubs are interested in the player and Newcastle have had scouts at the Celtic games.

While at Dinamo Zagreb he played 75 times for the first team with three goals.

He’s only 22 years old so a perfect age for Rafa to develop the player in the future if we are really interested in the U21 Croatian International.

He’s reported to be valued at £9M by Celtic, but if other clubs come in for him that fee could rise.

He’s the type of young player with class that Rafa will want to develop and that will please owner Mike Ashley who wants to see a number of younger players brought in who can grow in value and skill under the world-class Spanish manager.

There’s nothing wrong with that as long as Rafa can bring in the experienced older players he also wants.
