When we saw the press conference with Rafa yesterday we had to watch it a couple of times it was so positive.
It seems Rafa is ready to try to get the best deal he can from owner Mike Ashley when he meets with him, hopefully early next week.
But Rafa seems to have learned that playing brinkmanship with owners and top executives about transfer funds doesn’t always work and learned when he told Inter in 2010 to back him in the upcoming January transfer market or he would leave and President Massimo Moratti lost patience and Rafa was out of a job.
Nothing like that will happen at the meeting next week with Mike Ashley and it was very clear in his press conference he is willing to work within the bounds of Newcastle being a financially well run club.
There’s nothing wrong with that.

The fact that Mike And Rafa seem to like and respect each other – if those local reports are true – augers well for the future of the club.
Rafa has never been given the credit he deserves for risking his career in the England second division with Newcastle and Alan Shearer for one was absolutely shocked when a manager of his standing did that.
Just think if he hadn’t managed to get Newcastle promoted – what would that look like for a manager who has won three European Championship with three different clubs?
But Rafa stayed with us and showed he has confidence in his own ability and was completely committed to Newcastle United, even though we were related a year ago.
That’s only one reason the fans adore him so much – he also wins lots of games.
Rafa has admitted he has found it tough in the Championship this term and he has said he has improved as a manager because there were so many different systems the teams play in the Championship compared to a league he understands much better – the Premier League.
And Rafa has brought everybody together at the club by the very force of his confident and positive personality and even now is trying to get the owner included as part of the United team.
His handling of his players has been so much better than the reports we read back when he was at Liverpool and never complimented the great Steve Gerrard when he had a good game.
All that stuff……
He has been just great for our players as the players themselves are only too keen to testify to.
And the proof of the pudding is in the eating and he has made better players out of the likes of Karl Darlow, DeAndre Yedlin, Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett, Isaac Hayden, Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle and others in just one year.
We are absolutely sure an agreement can be reached between the manager and owner next week and it would be fitting to see Rafa get a new and extended contract at the club.
He has thoroughly deserved it.
Mike Ashley should strike when the iron is hot and sign up Mr. Benitez who could well become the best manager in our long history if he is backed by the Newcastle owner in the future.
Of that we are absolutely certain.
Newcastle United are in a really good place at the moment – just think what it was like in early March last year before he arrived to replace Steve McClaren.
All Newcastle fans all around the world will celebrate our proud club after the game against Barnsley tomorrow afternoon – win, lose or draw.
