Rafa Talks About Opportunities In The Summer Transfer Market

With the transfer prices likely to be sky-high this summer it looks on the surface to be a daunting task for Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley to do the job they have to do this summer and bring in up to eight good players who can be starters for the side next season in the Premier League.

We will have to pay top dollar for some players, but Lee and Rafa were (very)  good last summer at getting some bargain deals and they will need to do the same this summer, if we are to get the number of good players we need to fight it out in the upper half of the Premier League table next season.

But there are always opportunities arise during the summer transfer market that are unexpected and Newcastle could hopefully get some players that way this summer.

The two men in the spotlight this summer
Managing Director Lee Charnley and manager Rafa Benitez
The did very well last summer!

Rafa has talked about his previous experience of these opportunities in ChronicleLive today:

“It depends on a lot of things, but sometimes you can find a player that you don’t expect that you can sign because the circumstances are right.”

“When I went to Napoli, they had a lot of Italian players and then we brought in Gonzalo] Higuain, Pepe Reina, so sometimes you can have access to players if the conditions are right.”

“In football, especially at this level, if you talk about Premier League and it’s the last game of the season and we are mid-table, the majority of them will know that maybe they will stay here.”

“But in this case, because it’s another level, some of our players they are not stupid and they know: ‘Maybe it’s my last chance.’”

“But at the same time they will think that: ‘We are promoted and I was part of this winning team.’”

“So I think it’s a positive approach more than a negative.”

Rafa is referring there to some players who were new and not regular players last season like Achraf Lazaar, Jesus Gamez, Grant Hanley and Daryl Murphy and that could be the end of the road this summer and they could be sold and the transfer fees used to bring in new players this summer.

And most but not all of the players out on loan for the season will have no future at Newcastle and will be sold this summer to get more funds to invest in new players.

They will be sold if possible or loaned out again to at least keep their wages off the wage bill.

It’s going to be very exciting for Newcastle fans this summer and we are already upbeat about what a great summer of transfer market activity it can be for Newcastle.

It’s something we were only dreaming about at the beginning of last August that we could get to this position – but we made it!

But we should also remember and remain cognizant and maybe even patient of the fact that it will be very difficult for Rafa and Lee.

But we have great confidence they will again get the job done for the club this summer.

Hope so.

🙂

83…Did you take up my idea of the weekend long session, i.e. making the match technically today?

Get some food in you mate, in reality there’s still one more day.

Not sure. You’d think there would be streams but then again the relegation battle is more important than who’s crowned champions. Good old Sky, believe in better. Yeah right!

Shire…I’ve always found their slogan fairly apt.

Believe in better, as Sky ain’t going to provide it.

Should be Sky, could be better. More apt I think. Wish I’d never paid for Sky Q cos its shite and the boxes are loaned to you and you’ve got to give them back at the end.

Rafa very diplomatic on transfers: He has already eyed possibilities but is looking at others. He’s looking for cheap and expensive ones. Experienced in the PL but also others who aren’t and are hungry to make it there. Locals and foreigners. Short and tall players. Skinny or fat.

And to think we gave them a total of 9 points between them. If it wasn’t for us it wouldn’t be this exciting down there 😀

There was a villa fan on Radio newcastle last night and he reckons the villa have been woeful for months, my only hope is that we win ,score early to put pressure on Brighton and they do a Spurs and bottle it 2 years running.
We have home advantage and are playing a team which while they will want to win, nobody is going to bust a gut and be injured for their holidays, we on the other hand have a league title to play for so we should win vs Barnsley ,i just hope the curse of the championship referees and the dodgy decisions we get against us and for Brighton (how many penalties have Brightons 2 perenial divers , Knockarte and Murray conned from these referees again?) either way, were up, we deserve to be up and nothing will spoil the promotion party tomorrow, if we get the league too…….well , that would be spiffing

Lets be honest here, for the nuetral the relegation deciders of two former league champions in to the third division is a tad more exciting, I hope it’s Forest, a City that wholeheartedly supported Thatchers closure of the mines to line their own pockets.
