Colback, Perez, Gouffran And Mitrovic Start Against Barnsley

Rafa has just announced his team for the final game of the Championship season this afternoon at St. James’ Park against Barnsley.

The two center-backs are Isaac Hayden and Chancel Mbemba – the first time they have been paired together this season and it looks like Clark is not fit as he’s not even on the bench.

Jack Colback comes back into the central midfield to partner Jonjo Shelvey and as we expected Ayoze Perez is in the number 10 role and Serbian Aleksandar Mitrovic is up front as the lone striker.

Christian Atsu and Yoan Gouffran are the wingers – again as expected and Dwight Gayle is on the bench.

If we better the result Brighton get at Aston Villa this afternoon then we will go up as Champions, so let’s hope we can do that.

But it will be a monumental celebration after the game today – win, lose or draw – because Newcastle are now in the ascendancy with Rafa Benitez in charge and very exciting things ahead for Newcastle United fans.

Oh to be in the Bigg Market this Saturday night – fans can start to talk about winning the FA Cup and the Premier League and all that daft stuff – and get completely carried away – just like old times.

🙂

It’s a lot better than a year ago in early March when we looked absolutely and completely pathetic under the manager then – Steve McClaren – and then Rafa walked in the door.

Celebrations are in order for Newcastle fans everywhere tonight!

It’s also the most positive we’ve been about the club since Sir Bobby Robson was the Newcastle manager over thirteen years ago.

After the game it’s time to congratulate our players, coaching staff and the great Rafa Benitez with the Italian and Spanish media at St. James’ Park today to hopefully report on what a great job Rafa has done in a short 14 months for Newcatsle United Football Club.

Love it!

Hayden at CB? That’s an odd choice, especially given that there’s no CBs on the bench.

Good to see Gayle back in the mix though.

    from previous thread

a combination of Shelvey and McCarthy at CM would be awful….
slow, one paced , lethargic all comes to mind.
premiership u need pace, and an engine for 90mins

My last Rafa Bingo for this season, posted at 10:59 AM. No matter how late you leave posting your guess-work, Rafa will slip in a sneaky twist! It must be hell for opposition managers trying to second guess Rafa.

    Hayden at CB ??

Yet we have Dummet who can play CB playing LB and then two LB’s on the bench (Haidara/Lazaar)

Hayden and Mbemba can play out from the back. Could be good. Hayden is great in the air too.

I wouldn’t be surprised if our formation is completely different to be honest.

    This should be entertaining!

Sure hayden will do fine cb….when we signed him it was said he started life at cb and had recently moved into a midfield role…dont knoe how accurate that was but if its true he’ll know the position well enough to cope

Pissed off or what, no games being shown in the states, Bein sports phucking sucks in the states. The biggest cliffhanger all season and they are showing phucking Tennis. Thank god we are back in the Prem, at least I will get all the games we play next year on NBC sports.

    Blofal he’s playing 4-4-2
With Atsu and Gouffran occasionally coming through the middle to spell Perez.

Wow what an aggressive line up. Rafa wants goals and is trying to entertain the fans. Well played.

    However could it be this:
    Elliott
    Yedlin Mbemba Dummet Colback
    Shelvey Hayden
    Atsu Perez Gouffran
    Mitro

Hayden at CB, I have been calling for this since I have seen him play. I wonder if Hail Wor Ashley will be along, as I recall it, Hail Wor Ashley had a go at me for wanting to see Hayden at CB – something along the lines of:

“AncientC would like to see Hayden play CB, I am glad some of you lot are not the manager.”

Hayden be actually be one of our best CBs, and if an expensive defensive midfielder is coming in the summer, Hayden would be better playing CB than on the bench. Untested of course, but Hayden has got CB written all over him.
