Fantastic result! Daren’t listen to the last 10 minutes as I thought it was all over, thanks to another bad refereeing decision but how wrong was I?

Wish I was back in Wallsend tonight as Preston doesn’t quite cut it. And not just because it’s not Newcastle! Gracias Rafa and well played one and all.

Howay the lads, gan canny like.

Elliot’s punt down field for Gayle’s goal was pretty impressive too!
Massive kick, great to see him back and fit again.
For the most part Darlow has been impressive this year, I expect him to be our \1 next year.

Looking forward to Charlies match scores, probably give everyone 10. 🙂

From the radio commentary it sounded like Perez was MOM.

Haidara sounded like he had a good game and may well have earned a retention for next season.

Roll on the EPL next season, I’ll predict a top six finish for us now!!

RAFA BENITEZ has given his thoughts on Newcastle winning the Championship.

Newcastle beat Barnsley 3-0 at St James’ Park this afternoon but ended up winning the league after Aston Villa’s late equaliser saw them grab a 1-1 draw with Brighton.

The Magpies will now begin their summer preparations for a return to the Premier League with Rafa Benitez expected to be backed well in the transfer market.

And the Spaniard said the way they ended up getting promoted was the icing on the cake.

The staff, everyone here, deserves to be in the Premier League, but this way [it is] even better and the fans have been amazing all season,” Benitez told BBC Sport.

“I was not aware of that [Brighton result] but you notice when everybody is celebrating.

“We did our job before [today]. We won today and we have to just enjoy it. As I’ve said before, it’s fantastic.

“What effect will winning the title have on next season? It’s obviously important to go up and that’s it.

“You have the whole summer to prepare the team. I don’t see a big difference if you are winners or not this year.

“We will have this meeting [with owner Mike Ashley], we will see exactly where we are and then move forward.

“This team, this club, deserve to be in the Premier League at a good level so hopefully we can do it.

The owner today, he could feel the atmosphere and that’s good too.

“It’s difficult to improve that [relationship with the fans] because it is really good.

“But every time you feel the support from the fans you feel more emotional.

“What you have to do is make sure that you do the right things and everything will be fine.”

Rafa Benitez celebrated Newcastle’s championship title win and hopes it won’t be his last trophy on Tyneside.

The United boss saw his side clinch top spot and headed for talks with owner Mike Ashley about his Premier League plans.

Newcastle won 3-0 with goals from Ayoze Perez, Chancel Mbemba and Dwight Gayle.

Brighton were denied a win by a last gasp goal from Aston Villa.

Asked if he hoped if it would not be his last trophy, emotional Benitez said: “Hopefully. That would be a good thing, no?!”

Benitez ordered his players to enjoy the moment, but he will be back at work this week planning ahead.

He will meet Mike Ashley for talks on his transfer plans this week.

Ashley attended his first home game of the season.

Benitez said: “It is important from him, for us, to feel the love of the fans and the passion in the stadium.

“I already have an idea of what a successful club could look like. I think also he (Mike Ashley) has an idea. I think we have to put both ideas together next week.

“I think it is the right time to talk (tonight), if not it doesn’t matter. We will be in contact to be sure we share the same ambition about how to improve. How to be competitive and to do the right things for everyone.

“The message from the beginning was to stick together. The atmosphere today was great.

    “We did our job well.”

Bloody hell just got in emotionally drained – what a roller-coater last ten minutes.
    Excellent atmosphere yet not brilliant/electric.

Funny couldn’t get reception in Gallowgate – all kinds of rumours flying until a noise came from the Leazes end and the barnsley fans who started chanting – word went around Brighton had a pen and scored. Stadium went quite and the players seemed to know that Brighton scored.

scored third muted celebration. Barnsley kicked-off and a murmuring from the leases end got older and louder breaking into a creshendo of noise rang round the ground when the news finally got through that Villa had equalised.
Final whistle went and Villa were still playing weird atmosphere then the final result came through place bloody eruptted

First twenty minutes tarted slowly as if we were nervous gave the ball away all-to often. Grew into the game and when we scored only one team going to win.

    My players ratings
Elliot 7 pulled off a great save with boot to keep us 2-0 up but a bit uncertain whether to come off his line or stay.
Dummett 8 had a excellent game at full back and centre half
Mbemba 8 got in couple of good tackles others a bit weak but over-all played well and a goal to cap his performance.
Yedlin 8 bundle of energy and linked up with Atsu down the right to give Barnsley problems all game
Shelvey 6 struggled today looked like he was carrying a injury
Hayden – not on long enough
Hiadara 7 started slowly but as the gam went on got better
Colback 9 My man of the Match – got in some crunching tackles distribution good but ran out of steam last ten minutes giving away silly fouls.
Goufran 8 had a exeellent game chased and harried every ball got in some good headers – good game some tackles bit weak.
Perez 8.5 Another who had a execllent game scored a great goal linked up with Atsu and Yedlin down the right to cause problems to Barnsley all afternoon.
Atsu 8.5 Another who had a great game – would of gave him MOM but faded second half
Mitrovich 8 led the line well set up Gayle for the third with a deft header. Also played well in defence got in some crucial headers but needs to do that up front instead of wanting to chest the ball down all the time.

Diame and Gayle not on long enough but Gayle took his goal well

The atmos when we heard villa equalised was unreal. And for that fraud keeper Stockdale being at fault for it was just desserts.

The best team win the league. FU Brighton. They will not get any favourable decisions in the prem or 700 pens.

    Yay us!

What a day , watched the match while listenug to commentary onradio newcastle, i knew we would win as even though Barnsley started quite well, they never really threatened and we were all over them after they had a couple of attempts saved by Elliot.
We score and are on our way to winning, we hear that Brighton get another dodgy pen and that twat Murray scores…..it goes quiet and the Barnsley lot are singing were gonna win fick all and set a flare off (as if it was them that was stopping us winning the league or something), We then hear Brighton have conceded a goal and were winning the league and the crowd just erupts ,singing were going to win the league and going down going up….it was mint, our gMe ends and the players are on the pit h waiting to hear, Brighton and Villa are 1min behind us and were all nervous as hell as Villa are down to 10 men and have done us a massive favour, just hold on …please just hold on….villa get a free kick and it goes through to stockdale , he boots it up the pitch for 1 last attempt, less than a minute to go, Brighton get a free kick but not close to goal, were all holding our breath, the atmosphere is oddly serene as they tKe their kick, someone has an attempt at goal and it goes close but runs through for a goal kick….the whole ground seems to breathe out a collective sigh of relief…..well it felt like that to me as i listened to every word by the villa commentators, just hold on …please, less than 10 seconds to go…nearly there, fingernails, arms and elbows being bitten down as we wait, the goal kick is kicked out ,their whistle goes and i scream….wev done it…everyone around me screams, the jubilation and sheer ecstacy engulfs the stadium, it seems like ages after but was likely only a second later, the players must get the news or have seen the delirum of the fans and they explode too….the whole ground, staff, players management and especially the fans are screMing in total joy clapping, cheering and hugging each other as if wed just won the league……..cos we had………thanks Jack Grealish…you will forever be remembered on tyneside as the man that helped us win our second league trophy (albeit the second division) in less than 10 years …….HWTL HWTF HWRB

Well, that was just brilliant. No ifs or buts, today was well worth a season in the Championship on its own. The rush when we heard Villa had equalised is still reverberating around my skull. After the false alarm earlier on everyone around us was searching for confirmation, but nobody could get the net to work! Probably overloaded, but then my mate got it up on his phone and there it was in black and white – Villa 1 Brighton 1. 🙂
Disappointed in Barnsley fans. Only time we heard them all game was to wind us up after Brighton scored. It’s one thing getting stick from successful clubs, but not sure what Barnsley have won to brag that we were gonna win f*** all?!! Karma can be a bitch though. 🙂 Having been outplayed completely and watched their team go away with a lucky three nil defeat – it could’ve been higher – they even lost their one bit of glory when Villa equalised.
Felt sorry for the fan who got howked out in response to their winding up – he missed the fun. Can’t have the same sympathy for the early leavers who had no intention of applauding the lads for at least getting promotion. If only they’d hung on a bit longer…
The game seems almost irrelevant now. Lovely we’ll taken goal from Perez, who casually clipped the cross into the corner. Mbemba being in the right place at the right time to smack the second, then another typical Gayle goal to finish off. They had a couple of chances they maybe should’ve scored in the whole game, but we never looked in danger. Cracking goal from Shelvey disallowed as well. 3-0 didn’t flatter us, we might’ve had more.
Great celebrations at the end and the players flipped out when the final whistle went at Villa Park. Great to see. 🙂
As I said weeks ago, not only will Rafa stay but he’ll sign an extended contract and nothing has happened to change that viewpoint. Buckle in lads, we’re going on a magic ride with Rafa – the best gaffer we could ever hope to have. 🙂

The next step is not going to be easy. I think with Rafa we do have a chance to finish near the middle. That would be a huge first season accomplishment. That means around 50 points. So 15 wins and 5 draws would do it. It means beating the bottom five most of the time and the next five up at least half of the time I would think. We should be able to do that if we get at least three decent players in.
