We have only just been able to get back in on the site as it seems to have been completely overloaded as Newcastle fans celebrate, not only winning the game against Barnsley this afternoon, but winning the Championship in dramatic fashion.
Newcastle won their final game of the season by 3-0 at St. James’ Park this afternoon and then with Brighton leading at Villa Park 1-0 through a soft penalty with only minutes to go, it looked like we would finish in second place.
But then, would you believe it, but Jack Grealish (I always knew he was a good player) equalized in the 89th minute for Villa and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Newcastle players celebrate great win – and we’re Champions
That meant that Newcastle go up as Champions with 94 points from our 46 games – one point more than Brighton.
So we gained 8 points on Brighton in the final three games by winning all of them and the Seagulls picking up only a single point.
It must have been meant to be for Rafa Benitez Newcastle United today.
Goals from Ayoze Perez after 23 minutes, a rare goal from Chancel Mbemba after 59 minutes and then a late goal from substitute and top scorer Dwight Gayle in stoppage time was enough to give Newcastle a 3-0 home victory and the win we all wanted to see.
Newcastle have now won more games than any other side (29) scored more goals (85 – joint with Fulham) conceded the fewest (40 – joint with Brighton) and have the best goal difference at +45.
And of course we have the most points at 94.
It was very good to see owner Mike Ashley at the game this afternoon and this was much like the way we finished with a 5-1 win over Tottenham last season.
Today it was 3-0 and the late dramatic news that for the second time in seven years we will go up as Champions – when that kind of thing happens it was fate – and it was going to happen – it must have been in the stars.
Here’s how the top six looks at the end of this very tough and long season.
[table “54” not found /]So now we can celebrate all summer long until the Premier League season in August.
After all the turmoil and pain Newcastle fans have been put through in the last three of four years this is great – it’s like being in football heaven!
Well done to our players and well done to Rafa and his coaching staff.
Newcastle are on their way back to greatness now – there’s no doubt about that.
🙂 🙂 🙂

Comment #43Still glad its Brighton going up with us. Gave us a good battle for the title but ran out of luck in the end. Oh no wait, they didn’t. They got a ridiculous penalty and red card decision for them. Ha!!
But still, glad to see a different team in the premier league.

Comment #47The noise in SJP at times was fantastic, and when Villa equalised you could barley here the commentators, so A big thank you to all the fans who attended and created one of the best atmospheres ever.

Comment #56Good to see Mike Ashley in the crowd. He could not have been under any illusion about the fantastic Toon fans and the noise they made in supporting the Toon .
I think he will want more of that and I reckogn he will give Rafa the Gaffa all the support he needs .
Going up an up
Going to be great seeing what the team will be for the EPL

Comment #57Steve Bruce did us proud today and he’ll be relieved that his mother and father won’t be lined up to kick his backside!
And there’s no doubt he’ll get plenty of pints pushed his way when he’s home as well as all the food he can eat when he goes out for dinner.
Once a Geordie, always a Geordie – unless you’re born in Jarrow or other split communities where you can’t be sure about the colour of their stripes.

Interesting thought
MA is a good business man ,you don’t become a Billionaire without knowing the wherewithall .
He might invest to accumulate and increase the value of the Club so he could then sell with a big profit.
Anyhow as long as Rafa gets what he wants in the next phase of the master plan, then times are now exciting
