This Left Back Is Expensive But An Excellent Young Player

The Mirror is reporting that Christian Atsu has been recommending his Chelsea and Ghanaian team-mate Abdul Baba Rahman to Rafa Benitez as a potential signing for Newcastle this summer.

Certainly we need to bring in a left back to challenge Paul Dummett for the left-back starting position next season,  with Massadio Haidara and Achraf Lazaar likely to be leaving the club before next season starts.

LIke many younger players at Chelsea, Baba Rahman has found it difficult to get much playing time in the first team with the Blues although last season he did make 23 appearances for Chelsea.

22 year-old Chelsea left-back Abdul Baba Rahman

This season he’s been playing on loan in the Bundesliga with Schalke 04, where he’s made 21 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

He turns 23 in July but the problem for Newcastle could well could well be the high fee for the talented youngster who already has 19 caps for Ghana.

But maybe we could even bring him in on loan for the season?

Rahman was signed by Jose Mourinho two years ago for Chelsea, when he arrived from Bundesliga club FC Augsburg for £22M.

He looks a very good young player – something that will attract Rafa, but we wonder if we have the money this summer to spend at least £22M on him when there may be other priorities to strengthen the team.

As we said before, maybe a loan deal this season with an option to buy next summer would be a decent deal for Newcastle?

What do you think?

Just my opinion but had we of strengthened, conceding silly goals wouldn’t have mattered because we’d have been winning comfortably.

    Fair enough.

However, It appears a pointless debate anyway gecause Allardyce said he wouldnt sell him anyway.

    Prefer Dries Mertens anyway

Hopefully true. I like Atsu and at £6m, he could be a snip

    Santon ,
    That would be something .
Drive one every day so love the brand.
However if penfold has been in China recently we may end up with “Great Wall ” ? …still better than a loan shark

We didn’t get Townsend. The good part of that is we kept our powder dry for this summer. There is a whole world of football out there to find a left winger. We still have the 15M we would have spent, plus his wages would have been 80K a week.

Am not really on either side of the fence in Atsu he’s ok but been behind Gouffran all season who doesn’t have a future at the club surely

I won’t be upset if we do or don’t sign him

On my second favourite subject. The plight of our near rivals from down the road.
Apparently they have financial issues. That’s a matter for them to sort out.
Thing is though I would not like to be in the Championship next season.
Three going down with Prem money and parachute payments.
Norwich and Villa still there and well resourced.
Three from Fulham, Shef Wed,Udders and Reading.
Derby still a big club, new manager.
Wolves, new owners, more money ?
    11 going for top 2.

I hope we can sign some of these players:
Cairnley, Inzigne, Cardiola, El Shaarawy, Lorenzo Dickmann (two footed fullback), Domenico Berardi, Marco Benassi, Ryan Sessegnon.

Cairnley, Inzigne, Sessgnon probably will cost a lot, maybe 50mil for 3 of them.
Benassi and Berardi will probably cost 30mil.
El shaarawy hasn’t played much this season, can get him on loan with option to buy.
I love Dickmann he is young and won’t cost much since he is playing in serie B.

I thought avlot of our problems at home stemmed from Rafas defensive style where Atsu could gave been used in a more attacking role rather than the defensive munded Gouffran

I think it’s important to build with experience but not players who are just all about the pay packet. We need hungry players with pace and power. Throwing huge money around needs a lot of thought behind it. I’d do that on a keeper, centre back, attacking midfielder and striker but build the rest with potential. The spine has to be strong and have good backup.

Personally, I don’t agree with clubs loaning players within the same league and attaching clauses that ‘he can’t play against us’. It is BS. Mind you, I also believe there should be a limit on the number of players any one club can sign. The number of players Chelsea and pother mega-rich clubs have farmed out across Europe is ridiculous and gives them unfair control of far too many youngsters. But then FIFA is a corrupt bucket of shite anyway, unfortunately.
