Ashley Promises Rafa Every Last Penny – They’ll Work Together

Good news for Newcastle fans today as the club has issued a statement plus positive comments from Rafa  that the meeting between Mike Ashley and Lee went really well on Tuesday night – very well indeed it seems.

At the meeting Mike Ashley told Rafa he would give him every last penny available for his transfer fund so he can build a top team for next season in the Premier League – and that’s exactly what Rafa wanted to hear.

Mike Ashley, Rafa Benitez and Lee Charnley on Sunday afternoon

This is what the club announced:

“It was agreed by all parties that the meeting was very positive and constructive.”

“Mike again congratulated Rafa and his team on gaining promotion to the Premier League as champions.”

“Plans for next season were discussed, including the purchase and loan of players to add to the squad in readiness for the Premier League season.”

This is what Mike Ashley  said after the meeting with Rafa and Lee:

“I’ve confirmed to Rafa and Lee that they can have every last penny that the club generates through promotion, player sales and other means in order to build for next season.”

This is what Rafa said:

“I’m pleased with how the meeting went and the positive approach we are all taking together to build on what we have started this season.”

“There will be challenges ahead of course, the summer will not be easy, but the hard work has been going on for some time .”

“And we can now continue positively with the development of the squad ahead of the start of the new season.”

“I wish fans an enjoyable summer!”

This is just exactly what fans were hoping for, so it seems Mike Ashley is right behind Rafa.

And we dare say there’s already a good relationship between the two men as Rafa will have shown the owner he’s also a hard-nosed businessman who knows the financial side of the game.

We had an inkling the meeting would go well as Rafa tries to make Newcastle into a club worth over £1B.

🙂

And so it begins, we may get 3-4 players in and another 2-3 on loan, that would certainly help, ditch the deadwoon and set sail on the rollercoaster named the good ship Rafa …….
I can hardly wait but , unfortunately were going to have to…..bloody summer…..cricket, tennis, tiddlywinks …..all shite, roll on july and august…..the real fun happens then , cheers Mike, no more sillyness and we might just get along.

well he didn’t have much choice either back rafa or there be no season ticket sales and the fans would go crazy, so rafa has all the money he requires, I would buy 2 old heads Michael carrick and fabragas as the number 10, might cost a few quid but you have to spend big money and have big players to survive in this league, I am waiting for the retaining list coming out

To be fair to Mike Ashley I would point out a few things. He is not stupid when it comes to business. He does service the debt NUFC had before he arrived which is a lot of interest before he forks out. We did have an unbalanced squad with a high wage bill. Mistakes he clearly made – recruiting Southerners with no NUFC connections and dubious pedigree. Trying to rename St James Park. Too long a contract for Pardew, didn’t invest sufficiently when relegation was threatened. Not spent loads of money but winaldjn, Siem de Jong, mitrovic etc weren’t cheap. Since Rafa we have made sensible decisions and for nice money back. No one should think that a policy of buy them young and with resale value is a bad idea. For the next 3 years minimum we should be a feeder team to the top 4 in every European division, buying a player aged 23 for 6m eg Atsu them selling for 4 million in 3 years if he’s average or 25 million in 3 years if Champions league regulars come calling, as long as Rafa can bring in some experienced heads as well. I thought we were a player short in January but the market was difficult and the decision to keep the powder dry has proved successful. I would like to think that if 100 million is spent then the throngs at St James Park should be singing for the team, RAFA and also Mike Ashley! I reckon this post won’t be that popular but he is minted and he will get addicted to success, I would imagine it a lot harder to say no to a club you love who’s fans adore you than in the current situation, if he comes up with the cash then we need to give the guy a break…..

Your right. Its time to bury the hatchet with Ashley. Yes he has made mistakes over the years, mistakes we all found to be terrible, but yesterday should be the turning point where Ashley has given 100% backing to the best manager we have ever had or likely to have. Credit where credit is due. Lets now all get behind everyone at the club, including Ashley, and hopefully have a great pre season and 1st year back in the Premier league. Rafa & Ashley could ultimately turn out to be a marriage made in heaven. As Rafa says lets enjoy the summer. HWTL.
