With the Newcastle club announcing the meeting on Tuesday night between Mike Ashley, Lee Charnley and Rafa Benitez went very well indeed and that Mike will give Rafa every last penny to spend in the summer transfer market, Newcastle fans are happy, very happy in fact most are exhilarated.
But we’re not used to such good news (all at once) and after all in early Match last year we were in the dumps big time with a manager in charge who had proven decisively over almost nine months that he didn’t know what he was doing.
The only problem was that those in charge higher up the club hierarchy hadn’t realized that.
And then Rafa Benitez walked through the door.
Rafa Benitez – seems to have Mike Ashley backing him completely
Here’s some of the tweets fans have put out as they learn of the good news that it seems Mike Ashley is backing Rafa to the hilt.
Still feels surreal to be a #NUFC fan after this last week. Champions, Rafa staying and cash to spend! Don’t spend it all at once Rafa

Looks like Ashley is finally wanting the club he owns to be successful and he’s now building bridges with us. Long way to go! #NUFC

Let’s hope the penny has finally dropped with Ashley and co! Especially if he gives that penny to Rafa ?#NUFC

Very positive words from #nufc and Ashley, but I’m not going to spaff in my pants quite yet, after all let’s not forget who it is we support

Comment #2Morning lads! Happy days indeed with all this positivity around NUFC. Something that makes me wonder is how did SSN get any notion of our £70m figure? The club haven’t come out and mentioned any number. Maybe and I really hope not but what Ashley meant of money available was from player sales and promotion and such but not a significant amount on the side from his pocket as well.
He must have assured Rafa money from his pocket too to keep the gafa happy or else he would have walked. So indeed happy days are sure to be upon us at last.
Exciting times ahead for us, I can’t wait what quality players Rafa signs this summer.

Comment #3Great news about Benitez. I don’t care how much we have to spend and I’d prefer that there weren’t figures going around publicly as other clubs will see us as being cash rich and drive harder bargains. As long as Benitez was happy about everything then I’m comfortably looking forward to seeing what we can do in the summer.
I’m hoping though the links to toure, fernando and mangala is just paper talk.

Parachute payment 40mill and profit from transfers last season 30mill would be my assumption (though that’s not how it will work) also got new sponsorship money to go on top of that

Comment #8Interesting that loans were specifically mentioned in the press release we’ve tended to stay away from loaning players for the most part

Comment #10Too much information given in the statement for me. Stating that he can have every last penny could be counter productive in today’s market. Should be an interesting summer non-the-less.

Comment #11Rafa is convinced, which is great. However, some of us still remember budgets being written to include all of a players wages for the length of their contract. We’ve had fine words before – remember when we were going to ‘make our own luck’? Or when SD was simply keeping the hoardings warm for a real advertiser? I don’t mean to be a downer but its about deeds with Ashley. I believe it when I see it – and see it consistently. While all this feelgood stuff is going on I presume the sale of the car park is going ahead quietly? Like a solar eclipse, it has to happen occasionally that Ashley’s self-interest and that of the football club overlap. Trust has still to be earned over time.
