Rafa Benitez may not be the only football manager today who wishes there was less social media stuff going on in the modern day of football.
It’s only ten years since Twitter came out and only three years earlier that Facebook was launched, but those particular websites and others have completely changed the way people communicate and not always for the better.
It seems the Twitter provides a platform where people insult each other quite profusely when they don’t share the same opinions – well that’s the polite way of saying it.
Rafa Benitez bemoans social media
And we have some high profile people in the world today who seem to act like schoolchildren when using their Twitter accounts.
People seem to have lost their dignity and people are a lot less civil than they used to be – well that’s what it looks like even, if it’s not true.
Rafa wished that things said in the dressing room didn’t get leaked to the press, but it’s very difficult to keep anything hidden these days with social media.
We remember Rafa once saying that your worth as a person is not measured by the number of followers you have on Twitter – you may have a tough job convincing some people of the validity of that statement.
🙂
This is what Benitez has said on the BBC World Service’ World Football program when asked what he would change in today’s modern football:
“Yeah, football there are too many things I want to change, but in society too.” “But I think now it’s very difficult to control what is going on in social media.”
“For example, in football when we were having anything in the dressing room, nobody knew – but now everyone knows.”
“You don’t like the people to know in your job; your job, my job, any job, but it’s already in the media.”
“Then fans know and they give their opinion and everything changes now whereas before it was more closed off.”
It’s not the first time we’ve heard Rafa wishing there wasn’t so much social media around and he’s right that it’s made it very difficult for managers.
Sometime new technology isn’t always for the overall good, but it’s not going away either.
More things for today’s modern day manager to have to cope with and their job must be one of the most difficult around today, with Rafa Benitez being one of the very best in the business.
At least top men like Rafa and Premier League managers in general get very well paid for what they do.
That’s a little compensation we suppose.
🙂

Comment #42I am enjoying the mackems plight and especially sitting in my back garden with the radio on listening to them whine about how shite they are. But do players like Kone deserve lucrative contracts elsewhere after basically downing tools.

Comment #49Gonna do one, coz don’t want to hear the Arsenal score so I can watch it after this game finishes. You can never get too much football in my humble opinion. 🙂 Gonna really miss it this summer. Think the U20 world cup is on this summer though, so get to watch Arma and Woody represent England at least. Later chaps.

Comment #53Just caught that Springy. That’s about my usual position mate, never been even close to this before. Missed a couple as well as which is annoying me now lmao. That said, the other week I got no points for the first time as well, so there’s no saying I would be that much further up the table if I hadn’t missed those two. One of those things you’ll just never know so no point wondering. 🙂 Doubt I’ll ever better this seasons effort though. Downhill from now on in! 🙂

Comment #59As someone who’s seen the effects of cancer and had to deal with people with it, I really don’t get the objections and whingeing about the banner message. As I said before, I’d rather they hadn’t bothered at all but I take the message to mean that, as football fans, we are united in fighting cancer. Then just a very mild dig about “up and down” means we are divided by leagues. Much classier than their snide effort which kicked things off last year.
I believe that all the 3 kids and their families were extremely appreciative of the banner message and the donations raised. So what’s the problem?
