Rafa Benitez will try to bring in some good loan signings this summer as he tries to build a Newcastle squad that can challenge in the top half of the Premier League next season.
Rafa will be working closely with Managing Director Lee Charnley in what promises to be a very difficult summer transfer window for the two men.
Newcastle have to sell a number of players with no future at the club and then bring in new signings as soon as possible, so that they can have a full pre-season at Newcastle.
22 year-old Chelsea defender Nathan Ake
The Chronicle is reporting Rafa could be interested in bringing in 22 year-old Chelsea defender Nathan Ake in on loan.
The Dutch U21 International looked very good on loan at Bournemouth in the first half of the season, before Chelsea manager Antonio Conte recalled him to the Chelsea first team squad in early January.
Ake is versatile and can play in either full-back position, centre-back and also in defensive midfield and he is an excellent young professional who works very hard in training.
Just the kind of player Rafa loves to coach and improve – and Ake is also a highly gifted technical player.
Ake was impressive when we watched him play quite a few times for Bournemouth and thought about him in a black and white shirt at Newcastle.
Ake still finds it difficult to get first team games at Chelsea, so there would be a decent possibility to get the lad on a season long loan at Newcastle.
Then the question would be if Rafa could get an option to buy in the loan contract – that would be the big question.
Obviously while having good players on loan helps the team on the field, Rafa will be thinking long term about how he can get top players to Newcastle – one way or another.
Young players on loan is one way we can do that, as long as there is an option or obligation to buy in the contract.
And the cost of having a player on loan is also fairly reasonable and that helps with the finances.
Another player at Chelsea Rafa has reported interest in as a potential loan signing is Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
But we’d be delighted if we can get Ake on loan – with an option to buy next year.
