Newcastle Considering £7M Move For 26 Year-Old Italian International

There are reports in Italy today that Newcastle are interested in 26 year-old striker Mattia Destro of Bologna and Newcastle scouts will watch him today in Bologna’s home game against Pescara.

Rafa Benitez will be bringing in at least one new striker this summer and he has many contacts in Serie A having managed both Inter-Milan and Napoli in the Italian League.

Destro is under contract for the next three years at Bologna and he seems to have a decent enough pedigree having played for all the Italian Youth sides and 6 times for the full Italian side.

26 year-old striker Mattia Destro of Bologna

In 51 games for the Italian youth sides in total he scored a good 32 goals.

He has scored 9 goals and has one assist in 30 games for Bologna this season and he seems cheap enough at a reported £7M; over the last two seasons at Bologna he has played 57 games with 17 goals and 4 assists.

Destro is said to be a quick striker with good technique and an ability to play off of his teammates and is an accurate finisher.

He is said to be good in his ability to make attacking runs into the penalty area and subsequently shoot first time – and hopefully score.

The other Premier League club said to be interested in the player is Watford so if Rafa is really interested in Mattia we could sign the Italian.

The 5ft 10ins tall striker has previously played at Genoa, Siena and Roma before joining Bologna two years ago.

This is the first time we have been linked with this player.

Comments welcome.

Yet another one to add to the list. This is what I hate about the transfer window – the endless connections that never come good. I’d rather simply wait and see who Rafa brings in because I imagine he’ll do most of his business early anyway. It tends to get very boring.

You know Rafa will left flank us and sign someone who’s not even been thought about let alone mentioned :-). Exciting times ahead. But it’s gonna be a long 3 months 🙁

Yeah the ‘possible’ list is growing. It’ll be longer than Northumberland Street soon and I would bet that 99% of them are non starters.
Think Rafa will be sitting back and having a good laugh at some of the names being bandied about.
He’ll know what he wants and I think we’ll all be surprised when he does land them – out of left field.

So as things stand, Burnley would be our nearest away fixture?

It seems rather late in the day to start scouting these players abroad or is it a final check up ?
Wonder if players like Destro are our prime targets or will they be back up if we spend wonga on Premier League possibilities such as Vardy.

The Guardian has the highest accuracy when it comes to transfer rumours surrounding Newcastle. I usually give them a bit more credit than the rest.

Destro? Isn’t that the bloke with the metal heed? Should add a bit of steel to the forward line.

Must say I really dislike this time of the year, all these rumours, much prefer to wait until we sign players, although I can’t help feeling that maybe just maybe good times are around the corner, although having supported the Toon for over 45 years don’t count any chickens just yet.

Fábio Coentrão and Jesé Rodríguez would make our left flank pretty awesome for £17-18m
Surely there’ll be at least a couple of Spanish signings coming in.

What a prize bigot Mister Tuff really is about so many things. Certainly he doesn’t practice what he preaches. This is 2017 you sad old relic. It’s not a feature of today’s world!!

In this week’s Spectator Books section, Philip Hensher investigates the long and often hidden history of London’s gay subculture, as discussed in Peter Ackroyd’s new book Queer London. From Mother Clap’s molly house to the last days of Lovemuscle. Vada the dolly old eek on her!
Queer in a different way was the subject of John Keay’s new book — the so-called “tartan turban”, Alexander Gardner. The adventures of this Scottish freebooter, explorer and soldier of fortune across the 19th-century Mughal empire were long thought to have been tall tales. But, as William Dalrymple discovers, they almost all turn out to have been true.

Keep your latent bigotry to yourself.

    Hahahaha – what a fool.
As I recall -Sunday mornings/early afternoons were always a favoured time for the Master Multiple to come onto the blog – to cause his division and mischief. Not a fanciful thought by me but based on several years of having to view to his crap.

Ian Toon has appeared today in the guise of carl and now Jack Root – purely to attack me.
His efforts to become blog boss have been thwarted – his spite and evilness must be so out of control that he feels it necessary to attempt to cause further mischief.
Give it a rest you evil stalker -you’ve been outed – and have no credibility at all.
I must really get under your skin -for outing you several times.
Give it up – you’ve been sussed -man stalker/creep/psycho.

The Reverend Ian “Carl” Toon, aka Jack Root, it’s a slow day when the Rev. Has to step down from the pulpit and get in amongst the sheep.

This is blog bullying, people. He invents his own cried/rabble,/mob/throng… So he can single out individuals , done for sycophantic praise, and others for sly vilification.

A top notch, high level weasel covered in grease.

    Mister Tuff
You protest too much. Your growing list of misdemeanours are increasingly becoming well known. Anyone who thinks for themselves and can be bothered on a football blog might question your motivation. Which of course is to divert attention from yourself and to divert it to others. The constant multiple talk and other blogger names merely adds to the smokescreen of lies and deceit.
The majority on here are not interested but wonder why your so fixated on non football issues. Your latest re Isaac Hayden post was disgraceful and scurrilous and merely adds weight to gutter journalism.
You claim to be a toon fan! Have a serious word with yourself. And don’t blight the blog with this offensive material again.
Also we don’t want a running update on mackem miscreants and deviants.
    You can sit down now.

Keeping to your theme. How the mighty have fallen.
It was you that got me interested in the blog. It was our last time in the Championship and some years afterwards I remember you saying just how much you’d enjoyed the season and actually watching winning football.
Aside from your fun posts and an altogether happy style. What has happened or have I just grown up and have a different perspective?
It is a serious question but don’t answer if you are going to be unpleasant. I think I would prefer to remember you as a fun knowledgeable fan.

Jack Root/carl/Ian Toon – stop trying to cause mischief. Your posts several years ago saying you were intellectually superior to other ordinary bloggers has resulted in your downfall.
Your arrogance and inability to remember your lies has as usual tripped you up.

You really do remind me of Norman Bates c/o the Bates Motel/Psycho and also Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs – pervs.

    Give it a rest creep.

Well that’s that then. Big Sams jaw is threatening to turn inside out his smug grin is that wide. Makems, Boro, and now Hull have all gone down with a whimper. All we need now is Fulham or a Reading to win the play off final and that’s us flying the flag for the northern (well, the REAL northern) half of the country.
It us against everyone else Rafa!

I have read the blog for a number of years and started posting just before the start of the season. (Nearly a year) but I just don’t get some poster on here. Why would anyone change their name and post as another person? I wouldn’t even know or care if someone has. That is weird in my eyes.Surley, the point of a blog is to speak with others about Newcastle and to get to know who you are talking with. It’s a blog about Newcastle/football. To call someone behind a keyboard who you will probably never meet is sad. What’s the point?
    It’s a big reason why I don’t come on a lot.
