Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle have taken up the option on Chelsea winger Christian Atsu and have agreed to sign the Ghanaian International for £6.2M and he becomes Rafa’s first signing of the summer.
Fans will be pleased the club have taken up the option on Christian, who has become a popular player on Tyneside and just loved his season on loan last season and was very keen to make the move permanent.
We think Atsu will be delighted to sign permanently for the Tyneside club in a four year deal.
Christian Atsu – always smiling
Christian appeared 35 times for Newcastle last season with 16 starts and 5 goals and he showed the class that Rafa Benitez wants to bring into the club for our season back in the Premier League.
In the poll we ran on Christian, four fans in five wanted the club to sign him permanently.
Should Benitez Sign Christian Atsu Permanently
- Yes (83%, 2,502 )
- No (17%, 496 )
Total Voters: 2,998
Christian will be a very good signing for Newcastle and he can only get better under Rafa’s excellent coaching and man-management.
What do you think?

Comment #83MAIAM – Mata gets messed around with by Mou. And in the current financial world of the PL, 100k/w salaries for good players is going to become the going rate.
And yes, I acknowledge this might be out there in dreamland but I don’t think it is that crazy.
Now James Rodriguez would be crazy. Mata not so much.

Comment #89MAIAM – if that is the case then fair enough, but maybe the wage demand won’t be that high after a few seasons being shafted by Jose.

Nearly every club in the world would be interested
More wages and champions league
We can’t offer that yet
We need to be looking at players who are good players with bags of potential
The experienced players we could possibly get would be someone like Carrick nearing the end of his career
Not players who still have a major transfer contract in them

Comment #94Kind of pleased we signed Atsu..
But it’s a bit like opening your present at Christmas when you were a kid and getting a pair of socks or some trainers you’ve already tried on.
I like surprises Rafa! I do, I do!!

Comment #119I like Mooy, not so much as an understudy to Shelvey, but alongside him. He has the physical presence and work rate to hold, and the passing and movement to give and go. Shelvey and Mooy, with Hayden and Colback providing the competition would give us enough in the middle of the park I think so long as we can also upgrade at ten and striker and left wing, and also add a bit defensively. Obviously you need to strengthen with a view to how the group will function as a whole. You are only as strong as your weakest link type of thing.
