Newcastle are as per usual being linked with lots of players this summer and a number of them are previous targets. so we don’t know if they are still bona fide targets with Rafa Benitez now in charge of all transfers at the club.
The latest such report is in the Chronicle and says Rafa coud be interested in bringing Tom Ince from Derby to Newcastle this summer.
We were first interested in Tom way back in 2012 and the new interest comes from the fact that new Derby manager Gary Rowett is willing to sell Ince for over £10M so he has the money to spend to rebuild the Derby squad for a challenge for promotion from the Championship next season.
Tom Ince – 25 year-old Derby winger
Tom has done well at Derby since he moved there from Hull City a couple of years ago.
This season he made 50 appearances for the Rams with 15 goals and 8 assists in all competitions.
And since he has been at Derby he’s played 158 games for them with 38 goals and 17 assists, so that’s not a bad return for the Stockport-born player.
And in his overall career so far playing for seven different clubs, he’s made 264 total first team appearances with 75 goals and 50 assists.
And with Derby said to be interested in Newcastle center-back Grant Hanley, there seems a decent opportunity for Newcastle to do a player exchange deal.
But Newcastle would want to get at least their £5M back we paid Blackburn Rovers for Grant last summer.
Newcastle were credited with an interest in January for Ince, but at the time then manager Steve McClaren was unwilling to sell his winger.
But Steve has since lost his job and it seems Gary Rowett could be willing to do a deal with Newcastle with Grant going one way and Tom Ince finally joining us.
Tom has always been a very good technical player without ever reaching to heights he has promised.
That could change with Rafa Benitez coaching the 25 year-old, so if Tom does arrive at Newcastle we really think Rafa knows how to get the very best out of him.
