Newcastle Could Do Player Exchange For This Target

Newcastle are as per usual being linked with lots of players this summer and a number of them are previous targets. so we don’t know if they are still bona fide targets with Rafa Benitez now in charge of all transfers at the club.

The latest such report is in the Chronicle and says Rafa coud be interested in bringing Tom Ince from Derby to Newcastle this summer.

We were first interested in Tom way back in 2012 and the new interest comes from the fact that new Derby manager Gary Rowett is willing to sell Ince for over £10M so he has the money to spend to rebuild the Derby squad for a challenge for promotion from the Championship next season.

Tom Ince – 25 year-old Derby winger

Tom has done well at Derby since he moved there from Hull City a couple of years ago.

This season he made 50 appearances for the Rams with 15 goals and 8 assists in all competitions.

And since he has been at Derby he’s played 158 games for them with 38 goals and 17 assists, so that’s not a bad return for the Stockport-born player.

And in his overall career so far playing for seven different clubs, he’s made 264 total first team appearances with 75 goals and 50 assists.

And with Derby said to be interested in Newcastle center-back Grant Hanley, there seems a decent opportunity for Newcastle to do a player exchange deal.

But Newcastle would want to get at least their £5M back we paid Blackburn Rovers for Grant last summer.

Newcastle were credited with an interest in January for Ince, but at the time then manager Steve McClaren was unwilling to sell his winger.

But Steve has since lost his job and it seems Gary Rowett could be willing to do a deal with Newcastle with Grant going one way and Tom Ince finally joining us.

Tom has always been a very good technical player without ever reaching to heights he has promised.

That could change with Rafa Benitez coaching the 25 year-old, so if Tom does arrive at Newcastle we really think Rafa knows how to get the very best out of him.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Have you heard the one about the Englishman Irishman and Welshman?

The Overrated Poster telling the blog they have no knowledge of football. Priceless. This is the chimp who not only berated the manager of his own team for guiding us to champions and promotion, but also thought we would forget it the same way he has after barely a fortnight.

TOF, just a wild speculative thought, plucked from who knows where, but, have you not thought that maybe the blog choosing Ritchie was everybody else getting it right, and just you who knows nowt? I know, crazy thinking, but hey, you’ve been known to be wrong before once or twice, so it’s worth speculating. By the way, I’d check the table if I were you. Strange things happened since you guaranteed us that we wouldn’t get promoted or win the league. Unless the entire media is wrong this time and you’re right once again, all on your lonesome. Maybe we didn’t win the league? Maybe Rafa didn’t get it right? Oh no, just checked that, all’s well. Give it up eh?

Hey all, been following the blog for a couple years now, just getting involved because I’m excited for the upcoming season with Rafa.

Amid all the speculation for the players we have been linked with. Does anyone think we should be bringing in a new Keeper? Is yes, who would you like to see in between the sticks for us next season?

Or are you happy with Darlow and Elliot (maybe Krul)

    May 18, 2017 at 11:29 AM

TFA, whats your own answer to that question?

If we are to challenge the top 7 I do think we need a gk upgrade. However a couple more seasons and Darlow could grow in stature and not need replacing! I hope long term Woodman gets his chance.

So to summarise; I would be happy to sell 2-3 gks and bring in an established #1…who though? unless we spend big on Donnarumma (dreaming), then we should look at someone already in the EPL: Butland, Hart, Caballero, Begovic, Schmeichel, Forster?

  • barkel

    TFA

Keeper isn’t a position I’m too concerned about at the moment, if Krul has improved his distribution he has to be our no.1.

I don’t see to much difference between our other 3 senior keepers, Elliot perhaps edges it for back up he seems to be a bit more commanding/vocal. Darlow or Sels could easily get the nod but I think they’re a bit more prone to loss of concentration.

It depends who becomes available and fees involved but I think we need to concentrate our budget, whatever that may be, on upgrading the left wing and adding more competition in the centre

Got to love the auld player exchange transfer trope. Every window multiple player exchange deals are suggested by fans and media alike and yet they’re as rare as rocking horse shite in reality.

  • ToonFanAbroad
    May 18, 2017 at 11:37 AM

ToonRich, I completely agree with Darlow, I think given the chance and some time to develop he will be our go to keeper. Looked solid this season just gone.

I think that if we managed to get Hart in that would be good business, depending on the price obviously. Begovic also a good option, but O’ve read some of the big boys are looking at him.

I’m still certain that Rafa already knows who he wants and will get them early on in the window, and we are going to be surprised by some of the signings!

  • TheBoss
    May 18, 2017 at 11:45 AM

Well the circus goes on & on , every transfer window we are linked with every player on the planet. Or should I say all those that are not up to standard , Tom Ince being the latest donkey & worst so far . His ego far out ways his talent ( or lack of ).. Really hope this is just more tabloid bullsh*t….

Latest I’ve heard through the Trans-dimensional network is that we are after an eight armed GK that plays in the Zog premier league for Klung United, Haven’t seen any youtube clips of him/it but apparently has a record number of clean sheets to his/it’s name.

The transfer fee wanted is a number of angst ridden fans as this it what they feed on. Rafa is asking for names to be put forward.

  • NezzaNUFC
    May 18, 2017 at 12:06 PM

Hart would be my first choice.

Very good GK and quite vocal, something we lack at the back, his price wouldn’t be an issue but his wages might unless he’s willing to take a cut?

Not really considering there are better GK out there.

We have good GK atm but nothing wrong with vastly improving that area though.

Out of 1-10 I rate Darlow and Rob 7-10 but that’s just my opinion on them, but as you know we ain’t desperate for a GK atm I would leave it until we get our squad improved.

We’ve got a great young keeper in Woody, who’s away with England’s U20’s right now. This is one keeper we do not want to lose. We don’t want to stifle his progress imo. He has the potential to be a future international and is highly thought of in the international set up already. We need to encourage Woody that he can achieve his targets here. Maybe a Championship loan next season of even No2 here. Championship might be the better option. Regardless of the here and now, he’s definitely the future and we don’t need to spend millions on him.

Spending £10-20m to go from a known 6-7 GK to a GK that might work out to be a 7-8 isn’t worth it. Especially when you consider the consistency factor with relation to how a GK work with a defence.

True but I wouldn’t put it past Rafa when looking for other GK options.

Rafa spotted with Man City reps could be Hart and Mooy transfers maybe?

  • ToonFanAbroad
    May 18, 2017 at 12:24 PM

Nezza, he is at Torino on loan, 120k a week apparently.

But I think that Man City actually pay a large portion of his wage, most likely simply because they want to even just reduce the output to him from them

On Woody. I would keep him here.
Lot of nonsense talked about young players. They get talked about as having potential until they are 23 or so.
I think you have to start doing it at some stage by 21. Your fully developed by then. It’s a young mans game where you can be past your best at 28/29.
Woody will soon be at that age. If he is No 2 he will be involved in all games as a sub.
When I saw Supermac make his home debut he was 21.
Already played for 2 league clubs and was I think married with a family.
    Sammy Ameobi is 25 !

  • barkel
    May 18, 2017 at 12:29 PM

If Hart wasn’t English no one would care about him, he is quite prone to errors, the most over rated keeper that i can recall. He’s reported to be on £110,000 a week. It would be a huge surprise if we even considered making a bid for him. There’s good reason why the only team outside of England that wanted him were Torino

  • TikiTakaAcca
    May 18, 2017 at 12:34 PM

    Barkel

    Completely disagree.

He had a bit of a shocking season about 2/3 years ago but apart from that he’s been top quality.

He’s miles ahead than any keeper we have,
GK is something we need to strengthen big time,

  • TikiTakaAcca
    May 18, 2017 at 12:38 PM

Why is everybody also happy for us to be linked with Mooy & Cairney?

    This is embarrassing.

We’re not in the Championship anymore people.

Cairney is 26 and been capped by SCOTLAND ONCE.

He’s had one good year in the Championship and it would be woeful to go for him as our creative spark.

De Jong should stay fit and be the first name on the sheet.

We should be going all out for Deulofeu,
There are so many good PL quality players we could be looking at .

But all i’m seeing is relegated and CL player linked and it’s worrying.

I don’t even think Ritchie is good PL level, so how is Cairney any better?

    Shambles.

  • Bobbybee
    May 18, 2017 at 12:42 PM

I’m not saying he should be No1 yet. Far from it. What I’m saying is whether we buy a keeper or not, Woody’s future needs to be factored in. Something Rafa may well have been ahead of me on. 🙂 If we buy, we know we can safely sell two. Do we need to buy though? A lot will depend on how highly – or otherwise – Rafa rates Woody already. If he thinks Woody could break through within two seasons, he might save his money. If he thinks it might be longer, he might buy. A season in Championship would be a great breakthrough for him though, imo. Seems nice to be saying our youth set up is working. 🙂

This year is the same as last, and the one before and before that, we are linked to every player under the sun.

IMO Rafa knows who he wants and that’s that.
We can all have out fun with speculation and hopes, but it all comes down to Rafa and hopefully we get a couple nice surprises in the upcoming months

People seem to think that because Bournemouth sold Ritchie to Newcastle, that he wasn’t good enough for the PL. Complete misconception.

Bournemouth wanted to keep Ricthie, but he knocked back a new deal, and as Eddie Howe stated – they couldn’t compete with the Newcastle offer.

Tottenham, Chelsea, and Man Utd, all have apparently tracked Ritchie in the past. Strange how underrated he is by some.

Also, what do you guys think about young Adam Arma?
Bring him up with us and give him a chance, or let him go out on loan again?

I’m opting closer to the latter.

  • Bobbybee
    May 18, 2017 at 12:47 PM

Different players develop at different stages, there’s not fast rule on it. Rooney developed early, but like many, burned bright and burning out early. GK’s especially develop late, peak late and last longer.

Id be tempted to send Mitro out on loan and give Arma his chance. As someone mentioned, they’d also keep Woody here and #2, that isnt a bad call either, I would play players like this in the cup this year and keep the spine of the team fresh to keep us in the league?

I agree that we need to factor in Woodmans long term future at the club, as he does seem a highly rated one for the future, but is he at all ready to be making an impact at NUFC?

I’d imagine not quite yet, so we should be looking at loans to up his experience.

Does that get in the way of GK transfer business this summer? For me, it’s somewhat irrelevant, as long as it’s an established keeper, replacing one of our already established keepers (do I need to point out the new GK should be better than the current ones?).

Getting a bit confused by some of these targets- Ince is a championship level winger, I think that’s pretty much accepted now.

Cairney is probably the only one that I think is good enough that we’ve been linked with so far.

Shawcross – really don’t want, a liability and cannot pass the ball.

Ashley Barnes – average, does well in a team he’s been at for years and knows his role – also dives into tackles a lot.

I’m hoping that the scouts are actually doing their job and are scouring the world for fantastic young players (not just France….)- which would mean none of the tabloid “experts” will have heard of them to make up the link.

Honestly, have these newspaper/ radio/ TV experts ever watched non English football? (bar a few very good non tabloid journos who watch across Europe) I would rather ask their sons playing Football Manager about the players.

Think he’ll go back out on loan. Hopefully to a team that plays to his strengths. If he’s scoring well, reconsider in January I suppose. Give him chances, he’ll score you goals. Great little finisher. Big season for him coming up, I fancy him to do himself and the club proud.

I was about to criticise your lack of knowledge on Tom Cairney. You placed too much significance on him being a Championship player and only having one Scotland cap. He was born in Nottingham and is a late developer having been rejected as a 16/17 year for being too small. He’s 6′ and those fans outside of Fulham watching him over last season saw him as the jewel in the crown in the Championship.

I agree players develop at different ages, but all should be doing it to some extent by 21.
Goalies, perhaps take longer, but Pickford has just turned 23.
Almost exactly three years older than Woodman. He’s been their No 1 for most of the past year/season or so.
That being the case we could be talking two years for Woodman to make a similar break through.

I wonder how many players per team outside of the top six are deemed to be “premiership standard”
I know they play in that League but for example how many Stoke , West Brom or Palace players are Prem standard and how many equivalent to Championship standard as measured by our own team and blog debates.

Can’t help thinking we need at least 5 new senior ( as in experienced) Prem level players plus some more back up from elsewhere to create a robust squad so that we have about 16 top players to deal with the pace of the league, cup matches etc using Ritchie, Shelvey, Perez, Lascalles and Yedlin as the starting point.

  • AncientC

Rating players on what they do at international level is why so many players get overpaid for and flop. Club level is very different to International football.

  • LGFUAD21
    May 18, 2017 at 1:31 PM

The overrated Frenchman on last thread.

I dont see how you can determine that we should use Ritchie to get Cairney.

Ritchie had a good season in the premier league for Bournemouth. He outperformed any winger we had in our last stint in the league.

Ritchie has had 4 solid seasons in a row including 1 in the prem.

Cairney has had 2. He’s about 1 year younger.

Cairney looks a decent player but I wouldnt trade Ritchie for him. I’d have him as an addition.

I’d like to see us go all out for Sigurdsson though. He’s top draw and we lack a number 10.

Kruls distribution is woeful,i would sell him as he is the one keeper we will make decent money on,didnt elliot recently sign a new contract…..we dont need a keeper yet anyway… there are weaker spots in the team that need strengthening first and darlow and woody are still young enough to get better….. let’s strengthen the weakest positions first while we get our feet….then start tweakin positions if they dont improve.

  • LGFUAD21
    May 18, 2017 at 1:33 PM

    AncientC

I’t not necessarily rating players for what they do at international level that causes players to be flops.

It’s more rating players on the basis on a tournament. A tournament is what 4-7 games where players (unless they are english of course) step up their efforts for the occasion.

Lots of players can string a few decent performances together. Top players produce week in week out.

  • LGFUAD21
    May 18, 2017 at 1:34 PM

    SPRINGY

It’d be sad to see Krul go but you are correct on distribution and some of the save Darlow pulled of this season to me suggests that we can afford to offload Krul. Espeically with Elliott behind him. Not to mention young Woodman looking to have a promising future ahead of him.

  • JackBall
    May 18, 2017 at 1:36 PM

Hail @34 is on the money, literally. Money spent for the degree of improvement is a factor that must be looked at on every purchase. We may have more money this year, but it will still be more finite than we would hope for. With only “x” amount of money, what percentage would you be willing to spend on a GK upgrade, knowing that that money will take away from the #10, winger, and Shelvey like we need so much more. I would also than put a CB and RB/LB ahead of GK.

Mooy is too much of an unknown for me.

He’s been excellent but it’s one season after being in the Aussie league (which lets face it, is pants)

Interesting to see how some players get hyped over others.

Tom Ince is a player i wanted last summer. He scored 14 this season and assisted 6. Those stats easily match Cairney’s this season. Ince has now done the business in the championship, 4 seasons in a row. But nobody talks about him because he failed to make an impression in his 3 (YES 3!!!!) starts for Hull and was deemed surplus once they failed to qualify for Europa league.

I have as much faith that Ince can step up to the premier league as I do with Tom Cairney. And Ince is younger than both Cairney and Ritchie.

I guess most Toon fans love dribblers more than anything else though which is why Cairney gets all the talk.

We had good dribblers with HBA, Cabella, Thauvin and even Marveaux. These guys all had the ability to dribble. it didnt serve them well in the premier league though.

@78, if we could sell at least 2 out of Darlow/Sells/Elliott/Krul for good money, whats to say we would have to use much if any of the transfer budget to replace -> upgrade? Then surely it would be worth it?

  • AncientC
    May 18, 2017 at 1:48 PM

The original point being made about a new GK coming is, was that 2 or 3 would leave, raising funds.

I think I would rather have 1 exceptional keeper and 1 good back, than 3 borderline keepers. A high percentage of the wages paid out to keepers is going to players sitting on the bench or worse. You can only have 1 out of Krul, Darrlow, Elliot and Woodman.

If you let Krul and Elliot go, then combine their wages onto a better keeper, it is more financially efficient.

  • martoon

I’m pretty sure it will be Krul that is let go – for whatever reason Rafa doesn’t seem to want to play him. I’m not sure about Krul bring written off. The timing of his injury factored massively in his loan, but I can see him bring hard to keep out of the first team. Yep his distribution was a disappointing feature bug let’s face it we weren’t playing from the back at the time, and in any case Rafa seems more than capable of sorting that out.

Darlow was not the weakness of our team this season, or even the tail end of last season. A very good instinctive keeper who will improve. It’s Elliot I see as being moved on tbh. Functional but not impressive. As for Sels…. Scrap value.

Players who dive in English football will face bans from next season under new Football Association regulations.

Under the new rules, passed by the governing body at its annual general meeting on Thursday, a panel will review footage from the weekend each Monday looking for cases of simulation.

Any player unanimously found guilty of diving would be given a suspension.

The panel will consist of one ex-match official, one ex-manager and one ex-player.

You asked for a comment so here goes. The original post was either intended to cause offence or was simply naive and from a callow youth. We’ve been talking about late developers and Tom Cairney. Well Adam Armstrong is 20 and a current England youth player and certainly not a dead loss, waste off time or a hopeless case. So to say he hasn’t made it shows a naivety beyond acceptance.
Why scapegoat him other than to try to aggravate a fellow toon fan.

I am personally energised by the passionate fans we have in abundance home and away. Nothing would be better than Adam Armstrong becoming a homegrown star at SJP. Let’s encourage the possibility and not slag off fellow fans on here.

    ToonRich,

Totally agree with you. If the money comes from the sale of additional players, and even more so, if you sell GK’s, than of course, if Rafa thinks he can do better, by all means let him go for it. My point is that it should not be the first priority and should only occur if other things occur, e.g. what you said.

  • JackBall
    May 18, 2017 at 2:48 PM

    Ron,

That is a great decision. Never understood why fans and commentators were so accepting of winning by cheating. I know if my team won because of a dive that won a penalty, I did not enjoy that win. I guess the argument that others do it, so it has to even out and it would be forgotten at the end of the year when all that mattered was total points, but if they could reduce that disgrace, I am all for it.

Dont get your hopes up lads!! Iheanacho is being touted as a replacement or partner for Aubameyang at BD!! Would love him at SJP and for £15-20m thats a fair price for a tested EPL striker I’d say. Just dont see it happening.

  • ToonRich
    May 18, 2017 at 4:12 PM

JamesToon, Iheanacho over King all day for me!

Anyone seen much of Fischer at Boro this year? Him and Tarore could add some depth to the squad…

  • G
    May 18, 2017 at 4:21 PM

If we are looking at Citeh players I would take Jesus Navas on free. Reckon he will probs end up back in Spain like, but at 31 he is still an excellent Right Winger.

  • G
    May 18, 2017 at 4:25 PM

…forgot to mention, Navas can also play at right back.

  • NezzaNUFC
    May 18, 2017 at 5:03 PM

    Why not Once?

Cracking young winger with bags of potential and can also play both sides, definitely a step up on Goofy.

Also isn’t Ritchie and Atsu both left footed?

If so then Rafa will be looking for 2 right footed wingers who can also play both sides.

Worth a thought maybe, plus isn’t Ince a left footed? If so he won’t be signed.

  • NezzaNUFC

I just don’t think Mitrovic is prem quality player/ striker , he struggles to score. He is a good championship players his hold up play was a good contribution in our promotion. The money from his sale could be useful for a better replacement.

    On diving on simulation.
In some countries it is regarded as a skill.
Can we change our football in isolation.
What happens when our players play in europe or internationals.
Its hard perhaps not even possible to play one way in the Prem on a Sunday and another way in the Champions League the following Tue/Wed.
You train your mind and body to do certain things in a fraction of a second. Not easy to change the programme in a few days.

This just in from the Sunderland Daily Suppository:
Sunderland being linked with top, top players to help take them down to Division One next season. Players such as Obertan, Riviere, Phil Gristle all linked with the club. The supporters are already excited. Many seen screaming and shaking their fists outside the Stadium of Plight.

Looking at these players we are linked with scares me
Other than tom cairney who I would like
    Jay r is a risk
We can’t afford to take imo
    The rest are garbage
Ryan gauld has not been even mentioned
    Scottish lad plYing at sporting
    He is cracking player
    Also gelson martins
    Gelson daly
    Fantastic players
    Ruben semedo
    Justin kliuvert
    Ousmane dembele
These are the types a player I want to see
Has anyone any thoughts on these players
    And do people agree
Or do they want prem experience d players

  • GeordieTwo
    May 18, 2017 at 6:32 PM

And now in comes Riviere. He demonstrates his powerful shot by bursting a wet tissue at five paces. Breathing heavily he offers to do it again. Moyes looks even more impressed.

  • GeordieTwo
    May 18, 2017 at 6:38 PM

  • YoungMagpieFromBurnley
    May 18, 2017 at 7:11 PM

The thing with Mitrovic is that people say hes scoring a decent amount of goals for his age. Which is fair enough. But in Two seasons his goals per game record hasn’t improved, and that’s after stepping down a division. I don’t think he’s a natural goalscorer, 10 goals as season is what he’s going to give you. However, his link up play is very good which means that you can build a team around him, such as another striker to score the goals (Gayle) or midfielders who are good infront of goal. (Ritchie, Cairney and Atsu). He can still be valuable, just not the main man.

  • sibleytoon
    May 18, 2017 at 8:09 PM

1 thing is for sure. I believe whoever we get in to play number 10 could be the most important signing we make. i have no idea who it could be – no names have jumped out as amazing – and the reason i say this is simply because Rafa likes a hard working solid team. team spirit getting the win with some flashes of skill. it will be up to the number 10 to really stand up and make a difference. a player to really excite and get us on our feet – and not someone who dribbles into a dead end. if its 25-30 mill for that one player id feel a heck of a lot better. id have faith in mitro, perez and gayle finding the net between them. he could sell one with murphy to buy another if needed. just my thoughts.

  • jimmysmith
    May 18, 2017 at 10:18 PM

You need depth and balance, and players who are not only technically proficient, but willing runners and who’ll play to instruction. Mooy, Cairney, Maguire ok they’d add to the group, but you’d still need a couple of really good f@cken players in key positions, one of them striker. Gayle can’t lead our line successfully in the epl, in my opinion. Mitrovic potentially could, but he’s probably a season shy of being capable. Negredo would be good, or similar, and I’m warming to the idea of an upgrade between the posts, a similarly imposing character to galvanise the defence.

  • AncientC
    May 18, 2017 at 10:35 PM

Agree with Jimmy. Gayle is a player that can ghost into the box and hit the back of the net, but leading the line on his own may not be his forte at PL level.

  • magspuggy
    May 18, 2017 at 10:53 PM

Gayle cannot be our only goalscorer his hamstring issues could come back at anytime.

Mitro improved towards the end but is not proven in the prem

Perrz meh far too often he tries fancy tricks but i think he will do better in the prem.

Murphy i think will score goals but cant be first pick.

Armstrong could possibly break through and make nufc his home ( wishfull thinking )

We need a proven goalscorer and they sure aint cheap.

Who leaves to make space is anyones guess.

Roll on pre season as i believe we will do most of our transfers early this year.

  • jimmysmith
    May 18, 2017 at 11:11 PM

I’d happily take Hart or Begovic, Maguire or even Morgan, Mooy, Cairney, Negredo and Townsend. I don’t at all think we will get these players, hopefully we’d get even better, but that would see us right for that first season season back under Rafa. I’d move on two of the keepers, cash in on Gayle, and also sell Hanley, Diame and one of Lazaar and Haidarra, and release Gouffran with our gratitude, Sammi too sadly, and retain the rest. One or two of the kids might be ready to join the group from time to time also.

  • jimmysmith
    May 18, 2017 at 11:41 PM

Rivierre obviously should be moved on too. De Jong and Saivet given their chance to prove themselves in pre season, while also fielding any interest in them.

  • magspuggy
    May 18, 2017 at 11:55 PM

    Jimmy

I think de jong could still do well for us saivet not so much.

Fittness would be my worry with dejong however .

Diame i would ship out and replace with him.

  • jimmysmith
    May 19, 2017 at 12:07 AM

Yeah, saw Saivet against Man U at Old Trafford in the Europa League and he more than held his own, and didn’t appear to get a decent crack first time round. De Jong I like but his injury record is more than a concern. I think that missed sitter against Villa was also tipping point for him. But with the passage of time both to me would seem at least capable of contributing, and worth taking a look at pre season and I’m sure will come in to some degree of contention.

  • magspuggy
    May 19, 2017 at 12:24 AM

No doubt we have addresed the injury problems at nufc
Whatever changed seems to have worked but some players break down to often
I fear de jong to be one of them and sadly gayle has a big ? hanging over him.

Would love to be proved wrong on both players as i rate them.

Diame should be sold imho so we will need a replacement dejong fits for me and would save cash to be used for a new striker.

Have not looked forwards to a new season like this for years.

  • jimmysmith
    May 19, 2017 at 12:31 AM

Yeah me too, just simply because Rafa will be engineering and preparing the group. Even considering we’ve probably not spent quite enough under Ashley, had we had Benitez quality leadership from the outset and throughout things would have been so much better and so very different. Newcastle should always have a top manager as its first and foremost priority I think.

Yeah, the new mobile site is sluggish to say the least.

At least we’ve got the post numbers in descending order and the time of posts now too just like the desktop version.

    Jimmy

Sell Gayle? You don’t think he’d be an option off the bench if we did manage to get another striker in who starts? Not saying Gayle should be dropped but if we get that lethal striker everyone so desperately wants them it’s inevitable really.

I think a proper number 10 is priority tbh. Not sure who but our current options haven’t exactly filled me with confidence or in all fairness, done the business.

Rafa’s assistant Mikel Antia worked with him right through his formative years at the Aspire Academy in Qatar

  • Jib
    May 19, 2017 at 7:53 AM

In fact when Rafa brought in Antia to replace Fabio Pecchia it was probably with half an eye to his contacts at Aspire.
If you want an idea of who Rafa’s targets may be this summer you could do worse that look through the list of successful Aspire graduates since 2012

But if it means getting rid of some of our Championship level and no more types…..maybe as a squad player
