Are Newcastle Really Interested In This Striker?

There have been various reports recently that Newcastle are interested in Burnley striker Ashley Barnes, who has rarely been a starter for the struggling Burnley side this season.

The 27-year-old has started Burnley’s last six Premier League matches but he’s scored only one goal and had one assist and he’s certainly not a prolific goalscorer.

In the four seasons he’s been at Burnley since joining them from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2013 he’s scored only 14 goals and has only 6 assists in 96 appearances, with 6 goals and 3 assists in 30 appearances this season.

This season seems to be his best season at Burnley.

So he’s certainly doesn’t score many goals and would not be  a starter at Newcastle in the Premier League.

So why we would want to sign the 27 year-old is a mystery to us.

We suppose in today’s very inflated transfer window the £6M Newcastle would have to pay for the Bath-born player is small change, but we’d be very surprised if Ashley Barnes is really a target of Rafa Benitez.

Of course this is silly season and likely to be very silly season this summer.

This has to be one player we are not really interested in.

I hope we are,nt interested and that its pure tabloid drivel. Gayle is far more effective in the prem, his record proves it, so why would we want him.
I hope its not a case of our budget is lower than we though. tho i doubt it.
Alot of so called expeets are expecting us to break our transfer record on a striker , so Barnes does,nt come into that class.

Probably paper flanel…but as stated it is summer silly season….so no doubt there will be a few shock transfers in the pipeline, which will baffle a good few fans.

barnsley will be amongst bookies faves to go down and this guy can’t get in their team and when he does he does nothing. why would we want him? there must be better options. if you just want someone who can hold up play then i’d much prefer mitro or someone like steve mounie, a young player who is already one of the best in the air in europe. even murphy or hardman i’d prefer to barnes. they can both run about and win a few headers and would save £6m

@5 Gayle,s record at Palace was,nt bad, he was their top scorer for the 2 seasons before we bought him and that was after missing quite a few games bcos of injury, so i guess you are right about Gayle being a risk injury wise

My fear is we dont get a decent striker in and gayle has a mare….for one reason or another….i dont no if mitro is ganna suddenly start hitting the net, but if we cant score it’ll be a tough season, but like i said i would be happy if proved wrong tbh.

Why not sign Shane Long instead? Quality, proven and knows where the back of the net is.

i doubt Mitro will do it either, he seems to have went backwards. it will be very interesting to see who we bring in, cos lets face it , we will be linked with everyone and his granny lol

No doubt Burnley trying to drum up interest in someone they’d be happy to sell to get some cash in.
Lost count of the number of times this has happened and we not being interested

Sorry this has to be paper talk, why would we go after Barnes. He isn’t really the goal scorer we need. I would prefer to give Arma the chance than waste money on a player who has only scored 14 goals in nearly 100 appearances. Lets be 100% honest here, this player is tosh.
