The Surprise Two Center-Backs Newcastle Fans Want Next Season

We put a poll out yesterday to gauge which center-backs our readers would like Rafa to bring in over the summer.

Of course we are linked with lots of players as per usual in this window and maybe even more than usual since Rafa wants to bring in as many as eight new players and in most positions in the team too.

We had seven center-backs in the poll we put out and we think the results are a little surprising.

Top of our poll – Hull City’s Harry Maguire

If Rafa is really thinking of bringing in 33 year-old Wes Morgan he doesn’t have a lot of support from our readers with Wes second bottom of the poll with only 5% of the vote.

Top of the poll is our own personal favorite – Hull City’s 24 year-old Harry Maguire with 30% of the vote and second is Burnley’s 24 year-old Michael Keane, with 20 % of the vote.

Third is 29 year-old Ryan Shawcross of Stoke with 17% of the vote and 22 year-old Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic is next in line.

We have never really been clearly linked with Michael Keane, but the former Manchester United youngster is a classy young center-back who Rafa could make into a great defender at Newcastle United.

Still time to vote if you haven’t already done so – each reader can choose two of the center-backs.

I should really send the results to Rafa – we’re sure it will sway his thinking.

Be nice to sign these two. I’d be happy if we just signed one of them!

Be nice to have British lads in the first team rather than unreliable Foreigners most of whom couldn’t give a toss about the team they’re supposed to be playing for – we’ve had too many like that. Particularly the French

33 year old Wes Morgan ?
    Seriously ?
Obviously he’s after one last big pay day and his club want to get some money in and will no doubt overprice him 4 or 5 fold
    Ashley – rightly – won’t sanction a 33 year old signing

Why isn’t Gibson on the list. Already said he wants to play in the Prem.

Localism and better than most on the list. Gibson and Maguire would be nice and realistic as they are both at poor northern clubs who just got relegated.

We should switch to 5 at the back with two wingbacks

Haidara and new player to fight for LWB

Dummet to cover Clark and LWB
New CB to challenge Mbemba for RCB
New CB to challenge Lascelles for CB

Lascelles is a monster in the air. With two classier pacier guys to his right and left he would do alright.

Cracking goal from Armstrong earlier today. I’d like to see him part of the first team squad next season, even if it’s on the fringes. He’s had two solid seasons of senior football, the first a success, the second less so. I think he’d gain more now training day-in day-out with top level players, rather than going out on loan again to a Championship side.

It’ll be interesting to see if the rumours linking us to Solanke are true; they’ll know each other well from various England youth teams. He could be a smart free transfer, and is maybe a bit closer to making it in the PL than Armstrong at this time.

Not Maguire he is no better than Hanley.
He was rotten against the Mackems. The best centre half in that lot is the Celtic boy Simunovic.

@Jimmy Goat. I voted on Simunovic too. He is easy the best defender out of all of them.
