Ivory Coast Winger Could Be Imminent Signing For Newcastle

French newspaper L’Equipe are reporting that Newcastle United are close to signing one target we had in the January transfer window – 21 year-old Angers forward Nicolas Pepe.

In fact it was L’Equipe who reported the player turned down a move to Newcastle on the very last day of the January transfer window, so it’s hardly a surprise we are still after the youngster.

Nicholas Pepe – Angers forward – close to signing for Newcastle

The reason he wanted to stay in France was to help Angers in their fight against relegation and he was successful in doing that – with Angers finishing in 12th place with 43 points.

It also seems that Pepe is a Graham Carr scouted player and according to L’Equipe we are in the driver’s seat to sign this player and it wouldn’t surprise us if the deal has already been agreed, since we were keen on him in January.

Nicolas was born in France and was at the African Cup of Nations in Gabon in January representing the Ivory Coast and he has one full cap he picked up last November in a 0-0 friendly against France.

Pepe is under contract at Angers until June 2019 and he joined them back in 2013 from Poitiers FC.

He can play on either wing and has played 47 times in total for his French club with 3 goals and 2 assists after making his debut over two years ago in November 2014 against Ajaccio.

Nicholas should be a good signing for us.

We will need to take a risk on a few young players from abroad but I think the environment that Rafa has setup will make it easier for players to thrive ,having a British core can help with this transition as I imagine the likes of Richie Hayden and Lascalles will take people under their wing!

Wonder if Lazaar will stay this season even to get a game as a winger ? Looked really composed on the ball and now that we will be playing football this season with better protection from the refs he may get a look in

Watch alot of Ligue here and Abeid has definitely caught the eye. A very tigerish approach defensively with impressive forward momentum. I doubt we would bring him back but our midfield is definitely crying out for his kind, to cover every blade of grass a la Ngolo Kante.

i don’t agree, tommy is one guy, and i have seen many of his videos, but not that one.
watch videos by dr bill warner
    mona walters from sweden
    Ayaan Hersi Ali
dr peter hammond has a good book which lays out all the numbers and it’s scary

my point is that most muslims do not integrateand have no wish to, there religion is getting bigger, and so are the attacks,

and no it’s not just the people moving to the uk, now many are home grown, and the one common factor is Islam.

our government spends billions tracking them, knows most of them and yet very little is done,

think how those connected to those victims last night, when they will hear it was a lone wolf, with mental issues. it is a fact he had mental issues, but he is not a lone wolf.

FFS leave it off. The point is this is a footy blog and nothing else. Keep your religious/political views off this particular blog. You may have a valid point, it might be total b*ll*cks but here is not the place for it. Get over to the comments section on the daily mail for that sort of nonsense

Just a little reminder to everyone …

Here is what’s already on the blog relating to the comments:

“The purpose of the comments is simply to allow Newcastle supporters around the world to express their views on the news of the day regarding Newcastle United.”

“Please respect the views of others, even when those views are completely opposite to what you think and believe.”

“And please keep the language respectable, as we are proud to have young supporters reading this blog, and finally there’s no place for religion or politics in these discussions.”

agree with Barkel/ WWSBRD – we’ve got enough to discuss, what with whether Ben Arfa was any good and if we should resign Andy Carroll… football is meant to bring together all races/relgions etc, its why its amazing.. politics and religion in the modern day only serve to divide! Never thought I’d say this but I’d rather read Ket’s shopping lists than get into a political debate here. Plenty of places online that will jump at the chance to agree or disagree with that kind of rhetoric

Back on topic I know stats are not everything but you would expect a winger with 47 appearances to have more than 2 assists. Granted some may have been coming on as a sub for the last few minutes but even so 2 assists!!!! I’m pretty sure off the top of my head that Atsu’s assists and goals will be better than that.

Tbf to Pepe hes been mainly a sub in a pretty poor team, hes been linked to some big names though and at the price being quoted he sounds like a pretty good option to replace Gouffran/Rivi

If we wanted him so much, why have we signed Atsu then?

@wwsbrd- im kidding.. never seen Pepe play if im honest… saw riviere at st ettiene, Toulouse etc and thought he looked like bleedin Thierry henry cutting in from the left with pace and power though so im probably not cut out for scouting anyway..
Still think Saivet could be useful though, and De Jong.. as squad players mind

Catchy in Norway you are completely and utterly narrow minded, further more toon supporter’s through out the world come onto this blog to read about NEWCASTLE UNITED..have some respect man!!!!…..Regarding our squad..sell Selz , Hanley and reinvest that funds in a left back..loan woodman out..loan in mangala and fernando..that will mean our goalkeepers for the season are Krul, darlow and elliot..right back we will have yedlin and anita..centre backs will be our captain,Clark, mbemba, mangala…left back will be dummet and the new starting lb…hayden and fernando as our holding midfielders..invest our budget in (young quality players) a starting left winger, centre foward ,number 10 and box to box midfielder..so our strike will be(gayle,mitro,?)..number 10(de jong,?)..right wing(richie)..left wing(?,aarons)..get in 2 more loans to cover our left wing and right wing..we still have perez who can fit in anywhere upfont..I would also try to sell colback and diame and get another box to box midfielder who is also capable of been a deep playmaker..so that shelvey has competition..this will not require an huge budget but we will have a balanced squad and a world class manager in our first season back

Ive not seen much of him tbh think I watched him play one or two games in Jan looked alright fast and with a few tricks…Obertan-y u could say but thats no bad thing…seems to be a long standing interest though bit like that Haller bloke who sacked us off for Germany might be nonsense obviously but might be a find

Haha aye Rivi was meant to replace Remy wasnt he? That went well. I dont rate Saviet though no point in keeping him imo McClaren never wanted him, Rafa didnt even look at him and he was quickly away on loan if we can get rid then happy days

As for Siem its all about fitness imo
